Why....

Sorry if you took it that way but all I saw last this week was we are gonna kill Florida, then it was if we lose we just need to keep getting better. We lose and now it's fire everyone just gets annoying with these fans bi polar reactions.

My bad man not your's. Just a frustrating day and I apologize for being a smartazz to you. The fire Butch stuff is just dumb. This is a very proud fanbase and most have only known winning and competing for championships. The last few years have just been beyond miserable and it's really taken a toll. Calmer heads will prevail in a day or two. I actually agreed with a lot of your points. I'm not sure if it's our predominantly Scotch-Irish ancestry or what but a large percentage of our fans do have an annoying "everyone hates us or chip on the shoulder" attitude but again losing so much even makes that worse. The passion of our fans is what makes this place so great though.

.... does Kentucky look to be so solid after such a short time with Stoops?

Why is Ole Miss so strong with Freeze?

Yet, we are supposed to be patient. I guess we were in worse shape than them when Butch took the helm?

Please help with my confusion.

Excuse trolls would have you believe that Tennessee was in the worst shape of any program ever, and therefore should be allowed 6 to 12 years to achieve a 6-7 win season.

The stats (total offense, turnovers) were fairly even. They rushed more and had more TOP.

I realize how careful you have to be by extrapolating results on limited data, i.e. the lack of properly cross-correlating performance when facing different opponents with different styles of play, etc., etc. However, I do look at percent differences to give me a feel for general performance.

UT does a great job of providing stats on their site, so looking at the indicators typically discussed by the talking heads on the college football shows, I see the following (generally speaking).
• First Downs: We went from an increasing "trend" of around 20% to a -45%
• Third Down Efficiency dropped by around 15%
• Yards Gained went from a positive "trend" of 30% to drop of 40% (i.e. -40%)
• Rushing yards moved from a slight positive "trend" to a negative 75%
• Passing yards up 40% then down (negative) 25%
• Kick return yards fell by around half (i.e. 50%)
• Punt return yards were on par for past performances
• Turnovers remained the same, averaging roughly 2 per game
• Penalties started "trending" up with UO and haven't shown signs of receding yet
• Time of possession was slightly greater than 30 min with OU, then fell off slightly (under 30 min) with UGA and UF

Again, I think reading over football performance metrics without accounting for the vast variety of variables with multivariate regressive models is more about "reading tea leaves" then it is about science. But, we are generally showing regression at the moment and that's the only point I was trying to make. What's causing the regression — i.e. did the guys psych themselves out, did some of the staff fail to prepare, are we too limited in our scheming and performance abilities, etc.? Well, that's for the folks that get paid a lot more than I do to figure out and correct.

In my opinion the best talent went to the teams that were consistent winners. Since the VOLS, florida, & some other issues in Arkansas, not to mention two new teams joining the conference, the talent has divided even thinner and obviously Kentucky, Ole Miss, & miss. St. are getting good players that would normally play somewhere else. Some Missouri and texas a&m kids are playing with home teams just to play in the SEC. Jmho.

Time for CBJ to quit yelling into a mr microphone at practice and twist some helmets. This pansy ol needs to grow up. One recruiting class isn't enough to turn around this program but just look at the production from his first class already. We're on the right track.

Give them time. They played Florida just as tough as we did. There is a drastic difference in their team. Is there a drastic difference in ours in two years?

They played florida early when they were bad, trap game for fl, and fl probably overlooked them (even after losing to Georgia Southern). Unfortunately, Gators put their bye week to good use on the defensive side of the ball and we didn't get to play the mistake prone team that bama crushed.

Don't be surprised if LSU slaps them around next week.

Only read the first page so SIAP... But you must compare apples to apples. Freeze has been at ole miss 4 or 5 years, compared to not even 2 for Butch. Freeze was 6-6, 7-5 after 3 or 4 years there. Mullen has been at Miss. St. way longer and they have gone up and down. I bet we are in much better shape than anybody after the same amount of time. Freeze was winning 4 to 5 games in year 3 of his tenure. As far as Stoops, we don't know yet. He appears to be doing well but it's far from a forgone conclusion at this point. We've seen this before with an early good win meaning nothing.

You're all very welcome!

Uh, no he hasn't. This is his 3rd year in Oxford. Oh, and he inherited a 2-10 team and went 7-6 and 8-5 in his first 2 years, with 2 bowl wins. Butch inherited a team that was 3 wins better than Freeze's and will not even make a bowl in his first 2 years.

The term competitive was brought up. Care to stay on point or you can't?

The term competitive actually means you beat a team that has better talent more than once a year! Losing by less than 20 is not the bar we should be shooting for in my opinion.

80% of 2012 offensive production (Bray, Patterson, Hunter, Rivera, Rogers) never played a down for Butch.

Considering how bad our defense was in 2012 I'm not sure how anyone could conclude that Butch inherited a good team/roster.
