Why you CANNOT root for BAMA 2Nite

Dude, you live in KY. How many times do you have to hear Roll Tide on a daily basis? Try living in Mobile, AL where you hear it everyday. I even have waiters write it on my checks....that always leads to a fun conversation with respect to a tip. Nevertheless, I still support the SEC during the off-season. I would never root for Bama, the Gators, or Georgia during their regular season within-conference games. All of our teams have yet again proven that the SEC is the strongest conference in the country. Furthermore, the only way to maintain that position is for all of the SEC teams to continue to their domination over other rival conferences (e.g. B1G, ACC, Pac12, etc). If our rivals lost all of their games, would you still have an air of confidence that the SEC is the strongest conference? Like most others, I would say you were delusional if you did.

Well, we probably don't hear it as much as you, but since Kentucky Football has been crappy since the late 70's you have a lot of folks here jump on the Bummer band wagon.....Go Clempson:)

To me, it's pretty simple. I'm an SEC Homer as much as anybody but I don't want to go through an entire Winter/Spring hearing Roll F$&@ing Tide.

Besides, why give a rival more ammo? We already know we play in the best conference...this game doesn't require an ALA win to validate that. So, if that reason is debunked, then tell me why it's ok to cheer for them.

I hope they lose 42 - 0 so I can watch Saban and Kiffin sulk on the post-game interviews for a couple weeks.

I'll admit this much...I hope they win every game but UT next year only so we can beat them twice!!! Go VOLS!

You root for who you please. I will root for who i please.

This is not original with me, but saw it the other day:

Rooting for Alabama because they are in the SEC is like rooting for the devil because he is in the Bible. lol

If a waiter wrote "roll tide" on my check they would get a big fat zero tip, jus sayin.

BTW, I am not trying to tell anyone else who to root for tonight. OP just started a good thread. Go Vols!!!

I don't care what anybody says ... I live amongst a bunch of irrational obnoxious Clemson fans, and I don't wanna have to hear them condescend for a year. I don't want to have to hear how the mighty SEC has fallen and how the A(lmost)C(ompetitive)C(onference) is superior now.

I'm not a Tide fan, but to me, they are the lesser of two evils. And yes, I know the history of our rivalry with Bama, being a UT fan for 30+ years now.

I hope Bama wins a good, competitive, close game ... a fun game to watch kinda game.

UT is taking care of its own business, regardless of the outcome of tonight's game.

Just my reasoning to hope Bama wins, instead of Clemson.

understand your situation

Just going to try to enjoy it. There are pros and cons to Bama winning/losing.

Pro- a win validates UT and especially if they beat Clemson worse than they did UT.
Pro- UT competes as much with Clemson for recruits as Bama. Since Bama is likely to get their's anyway as long as Saban is HC... maybe a beatdown on Clemson helps UT indirectly?
Pro- the perception that the SEC is a better conference than the ACC helps UT and other SEC teams when recruiting head to head.

Cons- well, Bama wins and re-affirms their dominion.
Con- UT needs to win some recruiting battles with Bama too. Bama is far more apt to raid TN for players than Clemson.
Con- they have Saban. They have Kiffin. Dislike both.
Con- (for me) I kind of like Clemson.

Can't win... but can't lose either.

As a victim trapped in the muck that is the great Buckeye swamp of Central Ohio, I am just sooooooooo glad OSU didn't make it. Thank you football gods...

I'm watching the game and "rooting" for a good football game because it's the last college game I get for a while.

I'm sorry that you believe in the heebee jeebies and all that superstitious nonsense that most sports fans are to under evolved to bypass.

You're not the boss of me... That's reserved for my wife and kids...and my boss at work... And his boss...:)

True here as well. Kids are 3 and 5. Every afternoon i pick them up and we listen to Michael Jackson bc, well, they're infatuated with him I suppose and if I don't turn him on all hell may break loose. And the wife has always been the boss, just took a few years for me to admit it.

FWIW I edited the OP as it seems I've offended some with my "bossy" tone 😬. Really just wanted a pro/con thread...we got that for the most part.

Tune in tomorrow when I tell everyone what they cannot wear or eat!!! 😉

Funny thing is I typed this while waiting for kids to get back to grandmas. Now they're in the car and I'm being forced into Alvin and the Chipmunks! Must go now! Time is of the essence...plus never text/type and drive!!!

If Bama was not a rival of ours I'd hate OSUe much worse. Now that him-whom-I-won't-mention is coach it's even worse.

EDIT: the use of the term "CANNOT" in the title is used for argumentative purposes only and not me literally telling you what you can and cannot do. Didn't want some to take offense to my tyrant-like approach 😉.

This is true but it's gotten to a point where it doesn't matter anymore. When you're in the mix every year the top players come no matter if you win or lose. Think about the recruiting pitch:

They lose: "We were one player away from winning the championship. That player is you."
- or -
They win: "Did you see how we won? Do you want a couple of NC's before you leave college? We can definitely make that happen.."

Either way Bama players always seem to have a leg up with the NFL scouts too.

But because it's Bama, I hope they lose. And because it's Kiffin, I hope it's a bloodbath.

I can't pull for Bama. It does not help UT at all if they win. They are in the SEC and we are competing for the same recruits. We have to win the SEC to get to the title game.

OP edited. Not literal, sir.

I can muster a little SEC pride outside of Bama, Georgia, and Florida but with those it is not gonna happen. I can enjoy it if the Mississippi schools knock of an out of conference school or if Kentucky ever went to a bowl game.
