Why won't we just hire Lance as the DC?

Why can't we hire LT as our DC? He's got experience under Saban and Kiffin. Why do we have to go out and get a DC? It would make perfect sense from a recruiting standpoint too.

I am starting to wonder?? Maybe they have someone big in the hopper that LT is hoping for as well?? I'm starting to think that maybe LT has said he doesn't want to be DC or something??

Maybe he doesn't want to be a DC yet, not sure. I doubt this is the reason though, but could be. I think more than anything Dooley has to make a "splash" hire so to speak. I think this is the reasoning for offering up so much to Steele and others. I doubt you will see CLT as a DC unless all else fails. I think you will see a hire from the NFL as a DC, as mentioned with the current candidates. If CLT was going to be named DC, he would have been named by now.

Maybe Dooley has spoken off the record to Coach Thompson about it and he isn't interested...you think? Why would CDD try to anger CLT by sending him out recruiting and not discuss it with him? I think he probably is fine with his role he already has IMO. BTW...I put up a funny link in the Around the NCAA forum about a Texas fan's bad experience at the N.C. game....funny stuff!

I think Dooley is afraid to lose him as a primary recruiter. If Thompson moves to DC than I hope they get Garner for recruiting.

Think about it. Our staff is decimated. Right now, we have the option of finding a great LB coach or DC to fill one spot. If we name Lance DC, we reduce our options without actually filling any spots.

As many casualties that this staff has suffered, the last thing we need is to do anything to make hiring people more difficult. LT may very well end up as DC, but there is no reason to go ahead and name him DC without hiring someone to fill LB coach spot first.

couldn't agree more. I think it is high time he got his shot to see what he can do.

Garner announced today as staying at Ga. Only holdover for Grantham as DL coach.

I agree. The only name being tossed around lately that I like is the Tampa Bay Bucs LB coach, which would move CLT to coaching the DL. That said, if we can't get that guy, let's promote CLT. He can recruit with the best of them, coached under Saban and Monte, and is one of the few loyal remaining staff members ...

When Dooley was offered the job, he was asked what type of coaches/coordinators he would hire.

I would guess he said DC would be a top notch, proven candidate.

Not saying LT doesn't qualify, but it would be a greater risk at an important position for Dooley than a person with NFL experience as a DC.

I think we get one of the two NFL guys when their season ends, (Saints/Vikings) if Barry falls through.

Because our new head coach wants to fill his staff with La. Tech and MTSU coaches....we're after bigger fish in case you ain't heard. :)
