Why we WILL/SHOULD beat UCLA

After you get bitch smacked by the Vols on national TV for you overated program please keep posting here so we can use you as why the PAC 10 blows!

Easy now, snowflake. Keep your squawking focused on facts- like the fact that Cal turned you into roadkill last year but our crappy Offense still managed to leave Cal for dead. Or the fact that your D-line is not the most impressive-looking squad but right now its good enough to make your O look like stumblebums.

You backwoods trash-talking fans haven't changed a bit since my days living in Shelby County (Yes, I happen to be one of the few Bruins to have lived in the great state of Tennessee). Too bad some of you folks are as delusional as Al Gore.

In the first half. I think that UCLA's front 7 is decent enough to hold the Vols new offense in check for a quarter and a half or so. I don't think that we have anything to fear from their Offense since their O-Line will easily rank in the bottom 1/3 of the teams that we will face this season. Mid-way through the second I look for the score to be something like 7-3.

In the second half I see Tennessee's run game really wearing on the starters in the Bruins front 7. That is when the play action fake; deep bomb will drive the stake through their hearts. UCLA's secondary is not very good and will be open for the big play all night.

UCLA will lose because of two positions that are sorely lacking in talent and/or experience: O-Line, and secondary.

34-10 Vols.

Finally, a predication not based on homerism and swear words. I disagree Norrislake, but I didn't come here to hear encouragement, just to see the latest info on our first opponents of this season. And maybe check out a couple realistic Vol fan threads. (Not having much luck on the realism part)

You keep repeating yourself. That's not a good sign. Maybe the smog is causing brain damage.

Are realistic football threads allowed in this site?

You backwoods Vol fans are living in a Louisiana fever swamp if you presume an automatic win in the Rose Bowl. Those of us out West who saw your performance in Berkeley last Fall are underwhelmed by Vol football (especially since a mediocre Bruin squad had no problem beating the same Cal Bears who embarrassed you).

Even without a first-string QB, UCLA's chances look pretty decent, especially after seeing your first scrimmage. Face it, your soft Defensive Front isn't going to scare anyone this year. Too bad y'alls O couldn't even buy a TD from this third-rate D. Crompton? Please.
Yeah, we remember how that turned out. LAMO!

what amounts to a swear word in Cali must be different than TN. Clearly you are ok with name-calling though. Funny how you use a revenge loss to Cal but ignore the fact you got rolled at home by what may have been the worst major CFB team in recent memory. I mean they even lost the CiC trophy this year!

No QB, no OL and little to talk about on D. How do you see UCLA staying with the Vols this year? Does the mystique of the ROse Bowl cause others to cower in fear? Please, anything less than a 3td win will be disappointing and will prove how miserable this season will be for those wearing orange.

UCLA fans seem even farther from reality than USCe fans (and that's hard to do)

Let's clarify: UCLA can beat USC, they have to be on their guard against us. No one in the SEC scares the SUC fans. They left Auburn for dead and then beat the tar out of SEC West champ Arkansas.

Even the underacheiving Bruins of 2000-2001 embarrassed the Bama Tide two opening days/years in a row. (And they talked as much preseason trash as y'all- claiming that "we take football serious in this state"/"football is our religion, boy".)

We even punked Les Miles in front of his own home crowd when he was coaching Oklahoma State a few years back.
We love SEC teams out West!

UCLA couldn't beat us in the past with some of their best teams...This UCLA fans seems to forget We demolished Cal the year before last..We had a lot of question marks going into that game last year..We lost no excuses...We expect the same from you when UT demolishes UCLA on their home turf...Make no mistake about it, We WILL crush UCLA...There's you a quick slap of reality buddy

and that means what to this year? That living in the past thing must have rubbed off from the bammers.

If they can beat USC then why has it only happened once in 9 years?

Oh and Ok St is not in the SEC

Even though Cal beat us last year, they were out for blood. They came to knoxville and were completely embarrassed by us in 2006. What is UCLA out for, a winning season? job security?...

Ooh, a win over Oklahoma State. Exciting. Then again, given the fact your program is completely irrelevant, that probably was a good win. Given that four of your pathetic program's last five meetings with Tennessee have resulted in defeat, I'm not sure why you love playing the Vols. Then again, LA does have its fair share of the masochist crowd.

Here's the bottom line:

UCLA has had complete attrition from last year due to graduation and injuries. UCLA returns one starter from the 2007 offensive line, and the guys who WERE going to fill the other starting slots, are pretty much dead.

Bruce Davis is gone. Dennis Keyes is gone. Chris Horton, Christian Taylor, Trey Brown. Gone, gone gone. The defense is what held the team together to get those 6 wins - and it's going to regress in 2008. Dewayne Walker is one of the best DCs in the country, and he has talent to work with, but the defense won't be as good.

The offense might be the worst in the nation in 2008.

we got beat by 2 TD's in a game where we were in it the whole time. and you might be without your 1st and 2nd string QB. we don't know yet. and you're calling us backwoods, when you're using the slang term "y'alls"

First, some history and perspective: In defense of our (Ucla’s) ’07 loss to Notre Dame, we were playing with a fourth-string, walk-on, redshirt freshman QB and our third string running back. We also committed a freakish 7 turnovers (with ND scoring a defensive touchdown on one of them, if memory serves). Not making excuses (no team that commits 7 turnovers deserves to win, though we still came close), but it was surreal. And having attended both games, the ’06 loss in South Bend hurt a lot more (visions of Jeff Samardzjia scoring on a 60 yard broken play with 30 seconds to go still haunt).

There is no defense of our ‘07 Utah debacle.

And I agree that last year’s Cal-Tennessee game was anything but a blowout. I remember it being pretty competitive (like our games with Tennessee traditionally are, incidentally). And while we did beat Cal last year, I don’t really subscribe to the college football transitive theory.

Second, the game before us: I honestly expect another pretty close one. We should have a solid defense and good speed at the offensive skill positions. QB is the notable exception. The projected started is out for the season (Pat Cowan). Back-up Ben Olson, of whom many Bruins are already skeptical, got hurt (again) this week. We could be starting any of the following: a JC transfer who has not performed well in practice (Kevin Craft), a junior QB-turned-WR-turned-back-to-QB who was ineffective last year and the coaches would like to revert to WR (Osaar Rasshan); a red-shirt freshman who has not performed well at practice (Chris Forcier); or one of two true freshman who have performed well at practice (Kevin Price and Nick Crissman). And as many have observed, our OL can only (charitably) be described as “patchwork.” For those reasons I won’t bet on a Ucla win, but like I said, I expect a good game with our defense and skill positions keeping us close. Should be fun.

For those of you coming out to the Rose Bowl, have fun. It’s a great venue. While Ucla has its fair share of jackass fans who mistake trashtalking for spirit (I see one lurking around here), having attended games in many venues across the country (can’t wait to be in Knoxville in ‘09), I think we have pretty good fans and a lower percentage of said jackasses.

Go Bruins.

It will only be close if our offense sputters. IMO, our Def. is more than enough to win this game.

First of all, at least you know that your offense is crappy and the only stumblebum around here is you. While I can't disagree with your comment about Al Gore, I will say that the rest of your post and past post's are nothing more than stupid. How much panzy blue koolaid have you been drinking? All of your comments so far about the Cal game, our offense, our defense, and our QB make no sense at all. Last years d-line,as a whole, may have fit in your descriptions but this year they are better. I wonder how you will feel when our terrible defensive line owns your O-Line and punishes your QB all night long. You can't really be talking about our QB situation when you guys are on the verge of converting receivers to QB's just to have a warm body lined up behind the center. At least you know the name of our QB while Vol fans couldn't tell you who the starting QB will be for the Bruins. While this fact may be due to key injuries, it only solidifies that you have no business knocking our QB. Our offense will be plenty to handle your depleted defensive squad. The reason our offense didn't look like a million bucks in the scrimmage was because we do have a solid defense. The only thing solid in UCLA is a bet that you guys won't make a bowl this year. In all reality, Tennessee should embarrass your sorry excuse for a team but a couple of missed assignments on defense and some tricky playcalls by Chow and Neuheisel will keep this one close. Also,Our offense will need a couple of games to get things figured out. The best thing for you to do is shut your piehole and just be glad you don't play us midway through the season when our team has had a chance to get on the same page and efficiently run the offense. The 24-20 victory by UT could have easily been 42-10 had this game been scheduled in late October. Just pray that we don't figure this thing out over the next couple of weeks or all of these delusional predictions by some Vol Fans could come true. Thank God we are playing UCLA in our first game so we can afford to to make some mistakes and still win an away game. BTW, who is your QB going to be anyway? It would be nice to know a name to put with all of the heckling.

Go Bruins.

Your speed at the skill positions isn't going to keep it close. Our defensive skill positions have Demetrice Morley, Eric Berry, Brent Vinson, DeAngelo Willingham, Dennis Rogan, and Marsalous Johnson. All run atleast 4.5 40's. Berry and Vinson run sub 4.4 40's. Morely and Willingham have ran in the 4.4 before. Also our LB speed compared to your RB speed isn't really much of a mismatch either. We might have the fastest starting LB's in the nation. Rico McCoy runs a low 4.5 40, Ellix Wilson, Nevin McKenzie, and Adam Meyers-White are all converted safeties. You won't have speed on us that's for sure.

No way this is close. Without a Bruin QB of any stature this one could and should get ugly if the Vols can do anything on the ground. I see a repeat of the 2006 Cal game.

i'd hardly say you had no problem beating cal. you won because cal's gimpy QB threw a pick for TD in the final minutes without which cal would have lined up for the game winning field goal on the very next play.

Cal at least had a little talent on the field, UCLA...not so much. A shut out would be nice.
