Why we WILL/SHOULD beat UCLA

I can summarize why UT should win: because we are better on both sides of the football. UCLA is not a very good football team, and anything but a decisive win by the Vols should be a cause for concern.

I honestly think this game will be close. I don't believe it has anything to do with the talent gap either. You guys know how we play when we go to Cali for an opener. Fulmer is notorious for fumbling a great opportunity to impress. I just think it will take us a couple of games to get our offense figured out. A couple of busted plays on defense and we will have a dogfight on our hands. I do think we win but it will be a low scoring game and way too close. I don't think it will be necessary for us to go into panic mode after this game either. We just need a couple of games to get everyone on the right track and a couple of games under Cromptons belt as the full time field general. Our defense will pull the UCLA game out for us and we will be able to build on the win. Anyone that thinks that we are going to go into their house and beat them by 50 is doing alot of wishful thinking. Our offense is just too new and they will need time to get on the same page. I hope we win by 50 but reality tells me we win 24-20.

UCLA shouldn't be overlooked. I've thought the last few years that they have the talent to hang with great teams (knocked USC out of the BSC title game 2 years ago) but just haven't had the coaching. Now they have the coaching. This won't be an easy road game for Tennessee since we have a fair amount of question marks (D-line, new offensive system, punter). I wish this would be a blowout in the VOLS' favor, but unfortunately, I think this game will be a lot closer than we think/hope.

GO VOLS!!!

If this game is close, we are in for a long season... :ermm:

I understand that UCLA isn't a great team, but I think they're better than a lot of you guys are giving them credit for.

on another note, ESPN had video coverage on their site calling the UCLA/USC the new battle for L.A. So....what the heck was the old battle for LA???

Are realistic football threads allowed in this site?

You backwoods Vol fans are living in a Louisiana fever swamp if you presume an automatic win in the Rose Bowl. Those of us out West who saw your performance in Berkeley last Fall are underwhelmed by Vol football (especially since a mediocre Bruin squad had no problem beating the same Cal Bears who embarrassed you).

Even without a first-string QB, UCLA's chances look pretty decent, especially after seeing your first scrimmage. Face it, your soft Defensive Front isn't going to scare anyone this year. Too bad y'alls O couldn't even buy a TD from this third-rate D. Crompton? Please.

Those of us down South who saw your games against Utah and Notre Dame last year are still puzzled why you didn't drop football.

we got beat by 2 TD's in a game where we were in it the whole time. and you might be without your 1st and 2nd string QB. we don't know yet. and you're calling us backwoods, when you're using the slang term "y'alls"

LOL at the guy whose team lost to ND talking crap to a team who won 10 games and went to their conference championship last year.

In the first half. I think that UCLA's front 7 is decent enough to hold the Vols new offense in check for a quarter and a half or so. I don't think that we have anything to fear from their Offense since their O-Line will easily rank in the bottom 1/3 of the teams that we will face this season. Mid-way through the second I look for the score to be something like 7-3.

In the second half I see Tennessee's run game really wearing on the starters in the Bruins front 7. That is when the play action fake; deep bomb will drive the stake through their hearts. UCLA's secondary is not very good and will be open for the big play all night.

UCLA will lose because of two positions that are sorely lacking in talent and/or experience: O-Line, and secondary.

34-10 Vols.

I'll take that final score any day (or night in this case).
