Why we need to support Martin

-First off Bruce is not coming back even if Hart offered the job. How do I know that? His son has told me that he will NEVER coach for UT because of Cheek and those guys.

-If we did get rid of Counzo who would we replace him with? I wish a coach like Smart from VCU would come here but they turned us down last time... Thats why we had to hire coach Martin.

So my point is there is no point of putting a stupid petition online to get Bruce back because unless Jimmy Cheek is gone Bruce will never be back on our sideline.. So get behind and support coach Martin and the VOLS because we are only a few wins from getting back to the big dance.

Smart turned us down the last time because we didn't want to pay him. It wasn't because he wasn't interested in Tennessee.

Very good point about Cheeks!!!! We were all thinking that the A.D. would not offer Pearl and that would be the reason for him not coaching at U.T. again.

You bring it from another angle. I had always assumed that if Pearl were offered, then he would accept the job. That may not be the case.

Good response :hi: But in my opinion Cheek is ruining our athletics in general and I would love to see him go..

I'm finished with CCM. I'll support the team, but not CM. Nice guy but he needs to be gone.

Almost like you are trying to get fans on your side to keep the current coach. Or to put it another way, petitioning for support.

I think we have been down this road before. You know the argument that we can't do any better so keep the man. BS meter is on code red.

Interesting Martin fact:
Cuonzo Martins ranks 3rd (60%) in SEC win percentage behind Billy Donovan and John Calipari, among active SEC coaches.

It has worked for many of VN guys. Better keep what you have, who knows if you can get any better. And if you do, it's expensive.

A coach that has a tourney resume would be a nice start. Btw, it is less likely for Smart to coach on the Hill than the rehiring of Bruce. How do I know this? Steven Pearl told me.

OP needs to rethink the fact CBP would not be back. If a change is made I would look for Hart to make a call to CBP.

I hope he can win these last two games that is all the support I can give him right now. Up to him and the team to get the job done.

Interesting fact about the sec: its a miserable basketball conference dead last among bcs schools

What to do??? Support Martin and know that he can't win with a senior laden, healthy roster. That means he won't win with less talent next season.

Also, know that if/when he is no longer the U.T. coach, the A.D. will not spend any money on getting a really good coach. So, the men's basketball program is destined to fail.


Kinda like the Titans when Bud was in charge. Bud was cheap and as crazy as this may seem, he tried to run an organization in Nashville from his office in Houston, which is 771 miles away.

who in the world is going to be a die hard fan of a program that you know is NOT dedicated to winning? Sure, we can always say "Next year" but you will be disappointed year in and year out because you are a dedicated fan but the A.D. is not dedicated to putting a winning mens basketball program on the court at U.T.

Hart won't call Pearl!!!!

Scenerio #1: Martin is fired and Hart hires Pearl. Pearl wins at U.T. but either he or one of his assistants gets in trouble with the NCAA. Everyone says " Wow, what was Hart thinking by re hiring Pearl?"

Scenerion # 2: Martin is fired and Hart does not re hire Pearl. Pearl goes to a school close to Tennessee. Maybe Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, etc. and he wins big and gets his teams in the NCAA each and every year. Everyone says "Wow, what was Hart thinking when he let Pearl go to school "X" when Pearl would have come to U.T. and put us back to winning again?" Now, we are getting beat by school "X" every year and also have to watch school "X" go to the NCAA every year.

Nothing we can do will make Cuonzo anything more than a mediocre coach, no matter what his winning percentage might be. So, I support Cuonzo moving on to a job that's more suited to his abilities. As long as he's in charge, UT will never rise above mediocrity no matter how many ncaa tournaments we might or might not barely manage to squeek into. So, Martin needs to move on to a position that he's better suited to and make room for UT to bring in a coach who can get us back up to the level we used to enjoy under the leadership of Bruce Pearl.

Pearl isn't the only coach that can win here, but how many of those that could win here would actually come here? Plenty of those guys have passed us over.. for Wichita and VCU.. speaks volumes about what potential coaches think about the job we have to offer when we present it. We have more money, better facilities, and a huge recruiting base.

We also have a different AD that would be making this hire. So, who knows what may happen with Hart?

This is also true. But we have been passed over by quite a few who many thought would come. Maybe the pressure of following Pearl, or the NCAA stuff we had just gone thru, or maybe just didn't want to work for Hamilton

I talked to Pearl's daughter last night and she said he would take the job...see how easy it is to make stuff up.
