UT has always had home grown coaches, after what Fulmer did to Majors phil didn't want the same thing to happen to him. Nobody was in waiting. Now we are at the mercy of dart board style hires. I am not bashing Fulmer he took the school definitly a step farther,

We are in the mess because of poor management decisions. Those decisions fall squarely on Mike Hamilton. Hamilton should have canned CPF sooner and made some better decisions in the LK and DD eras (errors).

It is now up to DH to make the right decisions to correct the wrongs. The ball is in his court.

One of the reasons that we have fallen is due to some of us being spoiled. Yes, I do want U.T. to succeed and it hurts when we lose due to stupid mistakes. Such as poor play calling. A missed field goal. A fumble, etc. and I get angry at the person who caused us the loss.

Remember we were so angry at Arian Foster and made fun of him. Now, he has succeeded above our expectations and I bet that he will never return to campus because he has been so insulted by the fans.
I wish we had a player of his caliber at running back now. Without the fumbling, of course.

Remeber, how we said the game had passed Fulmer by.
Well, I bet most of us can admit that Fulmer would have faired better than what Dooley is fairing. Of course, we wanted Fulmer gone. With him gone, the situation has not necessarily gotten better.

Remember how we wanted Chavis gone, when he allowed UGA to go the distance of the field in less than a minute and steal a win from us? Well, we got our wish and he is gone and the defense is really worse than what he had us playing at....

Let's stop thinking that everyone coach or player would die to come to U.T. and that we can easily replace the current players or coaches with better ones We bleed Orange but people who don't know U.T. could care less and are not really interested in U.T.

I am not saying we should keep Dooley but at least let's appreciate his effort and the way he really loves U.T. and any other positives we find with the magnifying glass.

Hope the next guy hires more alumni. Bring Tee home. L. Little and Al Wilson are really outspoken on twitter, but DD doesn't want to break the rules by having their off-field help.

Some of the reasons alot of people wouldn't touch Tennesee with a ten foot pole.

Defense practices against scout team and not one the best offenses in the country.

Not sure what's wrong on D but if ours was even halfway decent we'd have won 1/2 the games we lost. Our D is putrid some of it got worse with injuries some of it just got worse with no explanation.

We brought Chuck Smith home and you see how that worked out with him and the defensive co ordinator.
They clashed and Chuck Smith ended up being out of here.

We are in this mess because Hamilton was more concerned with trying to find "diamonds in the rough" than in paying out big money to proven coaches. Big coaches ought to buy big name coaches; let other schools try to scout and develop coaching talent.

This is true.. He had help though. Much of that help still has say in what goes on up there..

You have to have high expectations or you are selling yourself short. Foster fumbled in critical situations and lost games for us and chavis showed you last night what he will do in a critical situation on defense. Mustang package. Thay deserved criticism.

The whole athletic dept needs some sanctification. We need to shake the curse.

Administrative malpractice. Nothing more.

Our facilities are still amongst the top in the country, our stadium is still the one of the largest, our recruiting budget is still heavily funded, and our tradition remains.

The only real difference is who's at the helm guiding the course of our ship.

departure of Cutcliffe led to 1st year Clawfense

This! Exactly.

Actually, if you look at the past. When Cut left the first time around, we were winning (hell we won a National Championship in his last season as Offensive Coord).

When he left, things slowly unraveled. When he came back for that 1 season, things were solid again. When he left, it unraveled.

Not saying he is a good head coach, but he is one hell of a coordinator. Then you had Fulmer making bad hires, Hamilton making bad hires and decisions, and then you are left with what we have now.

Bingo. IMO, falls can be traced back to 1998 when Cutliffe bolted to Ole Miss, Chris Weinke was hurt so we were able to beat FL State / Outzen with Randy Sanders. Instead of finding a high quality replacement who could some day elevate to HC, Fulmer promotes Sanders to full time OC...which immediately sent our next star QB to Texas (Simms) and the talent pool began its decline (not fully seen until after 2001 when the last of the great offesnive recruiting classes went off to the NFL). Hire a better quality OC in 1998 and we wouldn't be here today or fire Sanders and maybe hire Michigan's OC to get Ryan Mallet as he transferred instead of the Clawfense.

The best overall team that Tennessee put on the field during the Fulmer era was the 2001 team. Randy Sanders ran that offense.

I think you mean the most talented. with that 2001 Miami-caliber talent, even a monkey could run that offense and win big. oh wait, UT lost to unranked LSU with a backup QB in the SECCG.

After Fulmer Hammy could have went after Brian Kelly then at Cincinnati but he didn't think Kelly could recruit. Just think if we had Kelly after the Fulmer mess.

Completely agree and think of the Michigan bowl game that year with Witten outrunning their safeties as the crowning moment. But I think two-three things negate the point that the season validates Randy Sanders as a full OC (& recruiter by definition of OC)...1) Talent pool then, especially the juniors, seniors and redshirt upperclassmen, were the product of 1997 and 1998 recruiting classes....with the exception of Kelly Washington who I think is a fluke more than a traditional recruit. 2) Talent then...Clausen was good and had a great mentality, but not enough talent to even get picked up for scout duties...the receivers of Washington (I believe still playing at least as of last year), Stallworth (ex accident, an unquestionable stud speedster) and Jason Witten...plus real running backs and linemen who made it to the NFL...I am not sure someone could lose with that talent. 3) believe fulmer was still heavy in play calling / philsophy then.

My pulse doesn't even tick up on the GA or MS st comebacks anymore. Didn't see SC...Remember all of 2001 SECCG game and the holes in the walls of my friend apt b/c how frustrating it was...chalk it up to 1) comedown from epic FL game the week before and 2) really, the blood is on Chavis' hands there. Watching what's his name run and throw on us at will in a prevent defense was just painful.
