Come on. He's a true freshman that's played all of about 20 snaps. The fact that he didn't look like a deer in headlights and tried to push the ball downfield actually gave me hope.
The thing I worry about with a young QB like Maurer is he'll try to do too much with his legs and expose himself to hits when it's better to throw it away and go on to the next play.
Who looks at Yards per completion......its yards per ATTEMPT.
I'm not a JG supporter...I'm a TN supporter. And today, it is not debatable that JG is better. Peroid
Maurer can at least get the heck out of Dodge when the time comes. The ones he missed should count against him so yards per attempt is meaningless. Especially the one to DWA and and the one he threw right to the UF DB because as a 4th year JR, he can’t read a defense.
JG is not good. And is crippling this team. May be a great kid but he is not worthy to start another game at UT. Give Maurer the meaningful snaps at practice and I would bet he’ll give us at least the amount of production we’ll get from JG.
Now I don’t think that Maurer played well either but he’s a freshman and will make some mistakes but he did at least make a decision and throw the ball. He’s going to throw it in the wrong place sometimes but so is JG and #2 is going to hold the ball and get sacked more than Maurer.
If you’d payed any attention to the practice threads provided on this message board you’d know Maurer hasn’t taken any snaps with the 1s. So he was essentially put in the game with no practice, in a very hostile environment, with literally 3 drives of college experience under his belt and you hoped for a better performance? He was out there running ALL on natural ability and due to that alone the word “suck” shouldn’t even be in the same sentence.
That was probably it, because it makes no sense. Experience played the first 2 quarters and got us out the game by putting up 0 points, talent put up 3 , in a series so let’s go back to experience.I asked myself this question. I am wondering since we just got that turnover if Pruitt was going to play the experience over talent to get us back in the game?
Not a JG apologist but the rest of the nation can suck it! They bend that way and I’m out of ***** to give and ain’t going to Costco!JG completed 10 passes for 107 yds, a 10.7 yd avg while Maurer completed 4 for 44 yds which is 11 yds per completion. Negligible but edge Maurer there. And the int JG threw to the DB was his fault. The DB played soft and squatted on Calloway’s route. Calloway did the right thing and went to the opening behind him on the sideline. JG read it wrong like he has for his entire UT career.
Sorry to disappoint you but you and the JG apologists are the people who are making this fan base look bad to the rest of the nation with your stubbornness to accept that he is not and will never be an SEC caliber QB.
debatable but he is a true freshman, he can improve with experience. JG has already proven he can’t.Maurer sucks dude.[/B] Go to bed. This team is dead.
He had half the total of the first half on that first drive. The 2 drives after penalties started and Chaney seemed to want to go to the flats which is where the batted balls came from because the defensive ends were not rushing once Maurer came in. They started hanging back in the throwing lanes. But didn’t we have more yards and points with him in that scoring drive than we had the entire 1st half. Or am I just dreaming that?
It still didn’t accomplish anything by bringing JG back in. At some point we have to play youth and deal with it. JG is what his record says he is which isn’t very good in case you haven’t noticed! I’m for JG playing if you tell me we have a chance to go to a bowl game. But if not play the freshman and let him learn. Not much difference between 1-11 and 2-10 and that’s assuming we can beat UAB!!!He had half the total of the first half on that first drive. I’m 50/50 tbh. I think Maurer gives us the chance of long term success if he’s given a legit opportunity so by that merit I 100% agree. I also think he’s not ready physically. He needs another 10 lbs of muscle. But he is tough. Putting him in against UGA is where I’m torn. Had Pruitt went with him from the start, I would feel much better about it but UGA as a first start? Idk about that. Then again he’s spent his entire career surprising those who doubted him. So idk how to feel. LolIt still didn’t accomplish anything by bringing JG back in. im all for benching JG. shrout and maurer need to go at it or both play from this point on. whoever does better gets the nodThat 4/11 for 44 yards was HALF of our total first half offense. In one series the kid put up half of what a JG lead offense put up for a whole half.
First half, 88 total yards with JG in there
One series, BM puts up 44 yards, no matter how ya slice it, that’s better productivity my guy
Um.. that logic makes no sense? Maurer started at the beginning of 2nd half. We had plenty of time to at least tie it 17-17. When FL got the big lead on us, Channey actually called up 7 running plays in a row.He called more passing plays cause he freaking had to. Tennessee was down by multiple scores and had to do something quick. They had no choice. Has nothing to do with trust. It's situational football.
