Why was Maurer pulled?

He was playing too well, I’m convinced at a press conference in the near future Pruitt is gonna come out in a Bama shirt, give Fulmer a Stone Cold Stunner and laugh about how his entire employment was a plan by Saban to further destroy Tennessee. He will then laugh, get in a 86 Camaro blasting Sweet Home Alabama and head south.

He went 4 for 11 for 44 yards and a pick.

He was worse than JG in every measurable stat.
I don't care who the qb is, but stats don't win ballgames. We've had 100 tgreads, at least95 started by the same person, over the last 2 years defending jg's stats. I'm not saying mauer is a good qb, but I'm definitely saying Guarantano isn't.

You act as if CJP didn't have all off season to evaluate his QBs. It's quite clear that there are hundreds of QBs thst could beat out JG for the starting job. BM is not one of those. CJP knew this before the season even began.

He went with experience because there wasn't enough talent there to override the experience.

If pruitt thought this why even recruit him

sounds like an excuse. so when he does and he stinks, what will it be? "oh, it was his first time out". then "oh, it was his first time...fill in the blank".

all we heard about was all these freshmen qbs across the country doing well, he gets his shot.....stinks it up passing like we already knew......and here comes the excuses. is he ur son?
Victoria, that you?

He led us on the longest drive we had all day and was playing when we scored our only points without practicing with the starters all week.

Hell, I believe we had more yards with Maurer playing than with JG in a third of the snaps.

JG competed more passes for more yards and a higher average yard per pass.

Threw 2 pics neither of which were his fault. But still had a better comeation to pk ratio

I swear. You all are making the rest of the nation look like they were right about our fanbase.

It makes sense. We've been so bad for so long....I guess most of our fans just forgot how to "football"

JG completed 10 passes for 107 yds, a 10.7 yd avg while Maurer completed 4 for 44 yds which is 11 yds per completion. Negligible but edge Maurer there. And the int JG threw to the DB was his fault. The DB played soft and squatted on Calloway’s route. Calloway did the right thing and went to the opening behind him on the sideline. JG read it wrong like he has for his entire UT career.

Sorry to disappoint you but you and the JG apologists are the people who are making this fan base look bad to the rest of the nation with your stubbornness to accept that he is not and will never be an SEC caliber QB.

Posts like this AND the people that like it show exactly how low the football IQ is on this board.

Please remind me. Which one of our QBs kicked the field goal?

Haha. Neither did but look at the numbers. The 3rd quarter, which was the one BM played, was the only quarter that we had an edge in time of possession. It got us 6 of our 12 total first downs for the game and our only points.

You’re not helping push up the football IQ on this board by dying on this JG hill so you may want to quit talking about the perceived dumbness of the fan base.

So if I am reading this right his high school team went 2-8 and he is the only one on the list from a loosing team.
Yes. He put up those numbers on the worst team the elite 11 qbs had to offer. What even more intriguing is he was the only “3*” on that list and yet that’s what some people use to judge his overall talent until they see that.

I’d rather lose with Maurer than lose with JG at this point. At least we would be trying something different

We're 1-3 with the gauntlet looming. Pretty clear we're destined to another losing season. If I'm the coach, I dumb down the offense and defense and roll with my younger players who are physically ready to compete in the SEC. Keep it simple and let the young ones play loose and play fast. Let them play through mistakes and learn. They gain valuable experience and Pruitt can build for the future and at least point to the young ones playing so early when he's on the recruiting trail. No way do I lose with seniors who clearly can't or won't fight. If I'm going down in flames, I'm going down swinging with my guys not Butch's boys.

Well said

Probably because he was forcing throws into coverage and I'm going to assume limited playbook knowledge. Not saying JG played great. Liked some things I saw out of Maurer but there were some negatives also.
