Why Vol fans should root for UK Saturday

No. We need UK to lose. Win, and they come in to Knoxville with the SEC East in hand, and maybe the CFP on the line. So they'll bring their "A" game. We would be their last hurdle to the CFP, until Bama buries them. MTSU and UL suck.

Is that the UK team you want to face? Or would you rather take on a UK team that got trucked by UGA, and now the SEC East is out of reach, as is the CFP, as is likely a NY6 bowl game? Motivated UK, or "Just got our ass handed to us by UGA" UK?

I'll take the latter. Go Dawgs, then Go Vols.
There is literally NO chance that they sniff the CFP. None. I don't know why you even bothered to mention that.

I hope they play each other to a tie while breaking each other in half along the way to the point were they both limp their way through the rest of the season.

If UK beats Georgia, they’ll be coming into Knoxville full of confidence, knowing they’re the better team.

However, if UK loses, they’ll be coming into Knoxville hanging their heads due to the fact they have nothing to play for because their chances of making the SEC Championship are gone.

It would be the perfect time for us to upset UK coming off a loss.

The larger the number of successful SEC football programs to choose from, the harder TN has to work to convince recruits that UT is the right choice. Really no upside to an important game with the Vols being absent. No fanbase "deserves" anything either.

You'll note that I also said "until Bama buries them." My point being that with a win over UGA, UK would come in thinking they had a shot at the CFP. After which, I immediately noted that they did not.

They’ve never won the East - kind of a cool story.
Happy for a fan base to celebrate a ball that isn’t round and then get to see their team destroyed by Bama in Atlanta.

Because next week in Knox, if we beat UK that win looks even bigger over the Divisional champions.

It knocks Smart and possibly his Uga recruiting down a peg or two. Plus, his fan base starts to grumble some ending honeymoon status.

Biggest reason - I hate UGA! So, Go Cats!
(I do realize that Snell must have big day on ground and that UK defense will have to cause several turnovers to win).

Nope...that would make one more team that has won the East since we last did it. We already have Florida, Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina ahead of us in both regional and national perception...I don't want to add another team to that mix. Does anyone really want Vanderbilt and Tennessee to be the only 2 SEC East teams that haven't won the East division in the last decade?

I'll be rooting for UK because they have never been there and I think its good for the conference to see some new blood in the SEC title game....It's pretty much the "Who is gonna get demolished by Alabama in the SEC title game" bowl

listen and listen well. you dont want ky to win the east. you think they're bad about basketball and ky has always been the sec's premier basketball school. let them win the east in football and until u win it again, you'll NEVER hear the end of it.

Amen! I live in Kentucky. Used to when the football game came around, try to talk trash to UK fans and the response was always, wait till basketball season!
Thank God UT was good in basketball last year

I think no matter the situation is when we play Kentucky, they will be up for this game for no other reason than that they won last year and now see it is doable.

Watching SEC Nation on the UK campus and it strikes me that all this football excitement is new for them. Also, don't they have an old iconic building or something that would make a better backdrop?

I’d be surprised if anyone on this board wants UGA to win.
Well then be surprised. I want Georgia to beat UK down today. If that happens, I think Kentucky comes to Neyland ripe for the pickin’, we get our 5th win of the season, and only have to win 1 of our remaining 2 games to get to a Bowl game. I only care about Tennessee and what helps us in this scenario

If Kentucky gets blown out by GA like I think they will then I will feel a lot better about our chances to beat them.
