Black or white some kids are just more driven and hungry to excel. But i do think the black linemen as a whole see tougher than most white kids. And as before mentioned other than Memphis we are less diverse going east.We do see many of our top players of recent times going out of state but if you look at our lack of success the last several years and you have some real salesman out there and then sometimes we didn't even recruit kids because doughboy had this thing that kids should want to walk on at Tenn if they were from Tenn. Boy that thought was special.

"Another noteworthy indicator is that if you look at ESPN, Rivals, or Scouts Top 100 players for 2010, approximately 10% are Caucasian. While that doesn’t speak to individual talent or upside in potential talent, it does strongly support the argument statistically as a whole."

I think this article presents a solid argument, but I am interested to see his theory on why FL and CA are such recruiting hot beds.

Additionally, I don't see anything racist about pointing out facts and acknowledging that certain races may have certain advantages over others. The goal here is not to ignore the differences, just embrace them. It makes me laugh when people go out of their way to pretend they are blind to any differences out of fear of being labeled a racist by someone who misunderstands the meaning of the word. ie, volger, gavol.

Tennessee is 17% black. Alabama is 24% black. 6.2 million people vs 4.6, respectively. If math doesn't fail me, Tennessee has 1.05 million blacks, and Alabama has 1.1 million blacks. Alabama has had 39 4-star players in last 3 years. Tennessee has had 16. I don't think that's explained by black population.

I will explain it. Lol! The blacks from Nashville are not culturally enclined to play 'organized' sports. I am a 34 year old black male, so no racism here. Memphis (great history) and Knoxville (SEC) are worlds away. No winning teams (80's-present) from the Mid-State provide no excitement for playing ball. (Sorry TSU and Vandy). There are no local stars for the kids to look up to here. Has anyone been to the John Henderson/ Ron Mercer summer camp? Of course not, it doesn't exist. If you don't start 'em right, they won't end up right. The bottom line is this is "Music City" where you can get guitar lessons on every corner. V,B!

The only players from the state that they ever try to get are the top 5 rated players. The others they just assume they will come. Exactly part of our problem, know what you get when you assume. There are kids at Auburn, Bama, KY, and several others that are good players they just over looked. Need to build that fence sometime, the one Kiffin talked about. What an a hole. We will be better off in the long run though. just sucks right now.

Coaches do not recruit white players, ergo we have fewer white players starting in the NCAA. Even if you are Mr. Football in your state and white, if you are a running back, receiver, defensive back etc..., you had better have other plans than football in your future. Every year,Tennessee ( and every other state ) puts out plenty of very good running backs and receivers ( often from private schools). They just made the mistake of being white. I for one have gotten tired of watching our team and other teams regularly field 22 starters with maybe five of them, or less, being white. The SEC is the worst of all conferences for this ( LSU ONE white starter at the beginning of this year ). The last I read, Florida had Zero white recruits recently ( either the last class or this upcoming class). ZERO. ZERO. Now, you tell me how I am wrong about this. Just check and see what teams regularly win state championships nationwide and you'll be surprised that it is mostly white teams and they very often defeat mostly black teams to get the Championship trophy.

White coaches believe that the only way that they can win is with almost all black players ( see Bobby Bowden ). No thanks, I'll just watch Boise State and Stanford or whoever else fields a team with some white players.
You don't call a black man racist for wanting to see himself in the things that he watches, so don't dare call me one unless you mean that every non-white person in the WORLD is racist. They can be proud and we are to celebrate it, but let a white man want the same for his family and you condemn him.

You white people are the only race playing this "fairness" game. You had better wake up.

Luckily for volnation you have been around for two years, but only have only five dumb posts. Lets just use Dooley as an example here, this is probably his only chance to coach at a major program, do you really think he is going to risk it by not getting the best players because they are of a certain race? The answer is obviously no, if these players are as good as you claim them to be a school will offer them. Also winnning state championships does not necessarily translate into great football players, it means the best team. A bunch a good to average players will always be greater than a team with one or two great players.

I think we hit the nail on the head here. Unless you're a skinhead like our Caste Football fan here, you probably understand that Tennessee just doesn't have the institutional support statewide for football that other states do, and it has a hell of a lot more to do with that than race ever did. That's not UT's fault, to say the least. I grew up in Chattanooga, which was a battleground between UGA, UF, UA, Auburn, and UT fans. We're in a weird place geographically as a state, and Chattanooga is merely an example of the issues the state as a whole faces in football and basketball alike. Geographically we face a lot of issues other states don't given how close most other SEC schools are to us driving-wise (relatively speaking - we're a lot closer to Arkansas than UF is.), and kids in Memphis are close to Bama than we are. Camps and organization spread further throughout TN would go a lot further than the absolutely absurd arguments pertaining to the state's number of blacks would to address TN's recruit issues.

Tennessee high schools need more serious track programs. We produce ball players, not athletes.

my 2 cents...

The is much more emphasis on high school football in the other states in the south than Tennessee...

1. Some states in the south (not TN) have high school coaches that don't teach. They simply get paid large amounts to coach. They build programs where competition is the norm.

2. Combines/passing leagues/camps

Pretty much non-existent in TN compared to other states... the largest combine (arguably) in TN is the NUC held in Nashville (i have been and it's not good-compared to others). All of the top talent in TN goes out of state for combines.

Passing leagues are huge in states like LA, FL, GA,... The best thing TN has is a one day tournament held at MTSU, TSU, Vandy

I firmly believe that if you took the TN kids that are signing with small D1 or D 1AA, and place them in FLA or GA when they are in the 6th grade, they would end up being much better players.
