Why the meltdown?

Butch is a typical UT coach. He can win 7-9 games regularly, he just happens to be coaching when the greatest CFB coach in history is is our conference.

We all act like we have thia tradition of dominance Butch isn't living up to but it just isn't true.

In 83 years, we've won 6 outright SEC titles. Let that sink in. We stumble into a championship about every 14 years on average.

Phil got 2, Majors got one outright with UF on probation (he did share another). Before Majors you gotta go back to 1969.

Am I thrilled with Butch? No, but he's who we could get. We don't make the bold moves or write the "blank check" at UT. Butch is par for the course.

We're not extremely happy. We're also not extremely dumb. We're most likely about to be 9-3.

Is there not am SEC championship game next year?

You guys call us the losers, because we're "content" with 4-3 in the SEC, but y'all are the ones throwing in the towel on next season...already.

Talk about losers

Let me educate you on these fanatics.....they trust their eyes and what they have seen is back to back yrs SQUANDERING a chance to play in the SECC game. Even with the ballers we had on the roster. They were told these coaches.were best in America....only to see.them fired, not developing, not playing the best players, squandering double digit leads.

These fanatics refuse to put blind hope/faith in CBJ because of the squandering they have seen. You can't and will not bribe this bunch with 8-9.wins and call it success while FL gets to ATL twice with 2nd yr coach.

People are dumb..we lost one game we shouldn't have when we have more injuries then I can ever remember.

The streak vs Florida is ended and we finish the season ranked..

With where we have been the past decade, anyone not happy with that can go away..

We were a fumble recovery away from losing our opener to Appy State. We needed a Hail Mary to beat a bad UGA team. We let Ohio be in the game in the 4th quarter at home. We had 7 turnovers at A&M. We wet the bed at SC. The East is horrid and will improve next year while we most likely take a step back. Our coach is just not a big time coach and we are looking at probably 7-5 next year with losses to the usual suspects.

It's nothing CBJ can do about coaching same time with Saban
But he can have his team.prepared and trained to win the rest and make it to ATL. He fell short again as HC

Coach Jones is a really nice guy, but cannot win the big games. We will always be mediocre at best under CBJ.

UT has lost games in the past with FAR Superior talent than team 120, and some of those had P. Manning as the QB. It is apparently obvious that the hating going on is specifically pointed at not liking CBJ and nothing more. No sane person is going to actually see the hard cold truth, that UT as a Organization allowed the football program to reach is very lowest point with Kiffen and Dooley, did they pull the trigger too quickly on CPF? yes, but that is the past, CBJ is the one, and if some of these grudge holding Vol fans can see past their own prejudices and unrealistic expectations and see this is not the UT of the 1990s, no where close. Your problems are deep seeded PTSD of losing a era of the greatest UT football that has ever been put on the field. However, everyone refuses to face the facts. CPF was a lucky coach, the SEC was experiencing is lowest point as it relates to coaches. LSU, Alabama, USC, Florida, Georgia etc. all had coaches that graduated for the Dooley School of Coaching, and UT benefited from those school's poor performances with some of the best athletes ever seen coming out of the South. If you think UT is the benefactor of that scenario, you are absolutely delirious and blind. UT in the 90s played the most inferior teams on both the West and the East, and most UT fans are confusing success with luck and ignoring the facts don't change the facts.

Yup. 9 and 3 (assuming Vandy doesn't upset us which is quite within the realm of possibility) is the new normal I guess. You guys can just wax on about how acceptable that is while you watch Florida play in the SECCG. Yuck it up with the rest of the SEC fan bases as Tennessee spends another year as the punchline for all of the jokes. Nod in agreement when Georgia fans bark in your face and Florida fans remind you of how once again "everyone picked Tennessee to win the East" but one again "we didnt". Enjoy all of the sagely analysis from ESPN and Finebaum about how UT couldn't "live up to expectations". Clap in approval as CBJ gets another pay raise and contract extension for choking against Muschamp. Stare longingly in your closet at the faded orange color of your worn out jerseys from the distant past when we last won the SEC. Console yourself with the satisfaction that the Citrus Bowl or Tax slayer Bowl are on New Year's Day.

Meanwhile I will be throwing up envisioning another year of ridicule and snark from all the teams that DIDNT lose to a 17 year old HS quarterback.

If you can accept this season, then don't ever expect anything better because this is it.

I'm pissed because UT lost to a terrible SC team last month. That was the worst loss in the Butch Jones era.

I understand that UT is still learning how to be a winner under Butch, but losing to that ass clown in Colombia leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

Your last sentence is wrong and you know it.

No one can say Butch will never win the east for a fact, just like no one can say he will.

But the evidence points towards him achieving that. Had we been finishing last in the east every year, I might agree with you more.

I can say that this was his best chance of winning it and he couldn't get it done. The rest of the SEC east is rebuilding. I think we just peaked. Sorry. I liked CBJ and wanted to see him succeed. But baring some miraculous transformation in his personality if the offseason this is a good as he gets.

What evidence have you seen so far that points to him achieving that?

This season is literally, the worst the east has been, in 25 years if not ever, and UT had one of the most talented and experienced teams it has had in the last 15, and CBJ still couldn't win.

Finishing 2nd two years in a row is a pretty good indicator.

Am I celebrating that? No, but that clearly indicates that he has the ability to win the east.

You have your agenda. You think Butch sucks. I see it in all your posts.

To say he can NEVER win the east because he didn't this year is idiotic at best.

As usual, bringing epic substance to the thread.

Oh shut up. Last time I tried talking to you, you avoided my question and started evaluating me and accusing me of things you knew nothing about.

You want to discuss something? Fire away. When I back your dumb ass in the corner and you can't answer me, I'll be all over you like a spider monkey on cocaine.

Let's go....whatcha got?

Context. Finishing second, in the east, when 3 teams have new head coaches, 1 team has a second year coach, and the other two teams are Vandy and Kentucky, in the 4th year of a coaches tenure, with 18 returning starters, seniors and juniors all over both sides of the ball, is not progress.

This is year 4, I've given Butch a lot of credit when it was due, but we've seen poor game day decisions from him all 4 years. This year, every single game the team has struggled regardless of the competition.

You wan want him to be a better coach, you can hope, and think that he is going to do better, but what we have to judge him on is his body of work, and right now, it's that he is a middling coach. Our conference record, and our stats go to show it.

If judging him on such criteria is "having an agenda", then ok.

TN administration and boosters don't care to best among the best. Avg is good enough and taking $ from the UT fanatics

We are 9-3 and somewhat relevant. Sugar Bowl is calling. We have a quarterback who yes makes mistakes, but is the best representative of a university as you will find. We want guys coming back next year, why would you with all the negativity and your going to the sugar bowl? The real Tennessee fans are pleased the bandwagon fans fall off and say roll tide!
