Why the Love for Kiffin?

I think its the summer fling type thing.

There was a brief relationship that these fans only remember the good parts of, and have completely romanticized. Now he is in a relationship with someone else, and some of our fans can't help but day dream about what could have been; especially as kiffin has had some moderate success.

I think if we had hired heupel right after Kiffin, our fans would have dropped their love affair with Kiffin. instead we wandered the wilderness, and now our fans wonder if it was just the wrong time.

or it could just be the back-up QB is everyone's favorite QB. he is better in their minds because we don't have to deal with the reality of Kiffin.

Lane and Ole Miss remind me of the nerd and beauty queen going to a dance together, just knowing that she will be leaving with someone else after it's over.

He is a very good coach. I hope he stays put, but I think it’s likely he moves on. I’ll be very surprised if he isn’t interested in LSU, UF, or Penn State. I think LSU, but who knows?

For some reason I think Clark Lea, goes to Penn State. Yes, it’s not lost on me that State poached Franklin from Vandy, but I’m guessing they do it agan. If Vandy is as smart as they claim to be they will pay Lea to stay put.
Really don't want Kiffin to go to FL. He would be another Spurrier with all the talent they get. Clark Lea to Penn St would be good--get him out of the SEC. I'm wondering if Golesh goes to FL.

IMO 95% of the interest comes from how well Kiffin did at Alabama, FAU, and (especially) Ole Miss. It's not like he was incredible during his one season here.

There were reasons for optimism (held our own against #1 UF in The Swamp, blew out a much more talented UGA team, almost beat Alabama, the Halloween game against USCjr) but they've also memory holed the UCLA loss, that embarrassing performance against Ole Miss, and getting annihilated in the bowl game.

there were fans loving on him when he was still at USC. that number has grown the farther removed from that, and leaving us.

if he had never coached here for 1 year, and left us the way he did, most of our fans wouldn't be that interested in him. he would just be another Drinkiwitz or otherwise mildly annoying coach that has some success.

@LouderVol Dam. That's ****en pathetic. Sounds like the LeBron haters.
I don't get into the NBA so I can't really comment much on that.

but my outsiders opinion (probably wrong) is that its kinda the opposite.

the attention on Lebron is brought/fed by Lebron.
the attention on Kiffin, on this forum, is brought by people on this forum.

the internal source of the irritation makes it that much closer to home, thus more irritating. Kiffin wouldn't get nearly the hate if he wasn't inserted into every conversation here.

This and turned Fla Atl around. Vol fans are still hurt over the Kiffin experience, but that doesn't diminish his accomplishments elsewhere. Tennessee would have won 2 National Championships if LK had stayed in Knoxville.
I don't know about that.

I think what would have happened is that had he stayed, we would have probably made it to Atlanta at least once before having to fire him due to NCAA trouble. Urban leaving UF after 2010 and UGA being good but not elite under Richt was going to set up fairly nicely for us. USCjr and Mizzou, instead of us, ended up benefiting from that void.

Count me in as one of the LeBron haters. I can't forgive him for being the one who started the whole "Let's get together on one team" and win a Championship.

As for Kiffin. I'm not a hater, but I've never seen anyone in any sport get so many jobs without winning anything.

Can’t stand him but no doubt he is a good coach. A big part of the appeal is also the perception that he would be willing to leave his current situation. Right or wrong the perception is that it is easier for a “big time” program to pull a good coach from Ole Miss because historically that has been the case, see Tubberville. Who knows if he has any interest in leaving but due to that perception as long as he keeps winning 9-10 games a year he will be talked about everytime a coaching change comes up at these historically successful programs.

Hard to argue with the way he has built a good program - at Ole Miss of all places. Personally, I think he has grown up and matured a lot since he left us. Not saying he will be the next Saban, but he is definitely a good coach.

No one is the next Saban. That era of CFB is dead. No more dynasties from anywhere with the CFP, portal, and NIL

How many SEC titles were you expecting? One year at a TN dumpster fire. 4th iirc year at OLE MISS ... read that again. How many were you projecting that he would win there? I never want him back after he shafted us. But, that doesn't mean the guy cant recruit and coach. Geeesh

I guess LeBron started that if you ignore the 90’s Rockets with Barkley & Dexter, the 00’s Lakers with Malone & Payton, and the 00’s Celtics with Allen & Garnett.

The one game that really irks me of that season is the Auburn game. Nu’keese almost housed the opening kickoff and it was downhill from there.

I agree, I don’t want to see Kiffin go to UF or LSU, but here we are. I’m hoping Ole Miss wants him so bad that they make him an offer he can’t refuse! 😂 No I don’t actually mean a contract signed by pen or brains, or a horse head in his bed. Somewhere slightly this side of psychotic 🤣. I like horses, they are wonderful animals and I could never condone that!

Like you, I wouldn’t mind seeing Lea out of the SEC. He seems a very good coach, perhaps he could create a bit more serious parity in the BIG.

The guys you are referring to moved on from their career teams after they became old and were not wanted anymore. Same as most stars in all sports. Last I checked, Barkley never even won a Championship.
So yes, I am not counting those guys in the context of which I am speaking.
