Many on here are saying this coordinator isn’t ready or that coordinator isn’t ready. Vol fans laughed at Kirby Smart and Georgia when he was hired. He has them 11-1 and a game away from the playoffs in YEAR F’n 1!!!! This with a true freshman QB!!!! I think giving Kevin Steele or Tee a shot is a good option. If not we’re going to possibly go into the early signing period with no head coach. Both are top notch recruiters and with the right staff could get us back on track.

I can think of 10 coordinators I'd hire over Kevin Steele. Dude is not a good head coach. Just look at his record at Baylor.

Venables should be getting an interview well before Steele.

It's year 2, but I totally agree that a coordinator isn't necessarily a bad hire. As long as we get the right one.

I get what you're saying, but he went 8-5 in year 1. I'm all in on Tee, but on the fence about Steele.

As bad as all of this is, pretty much every name mentioned here is more prestigious than Kirby Smart. It's a very small comfort in dark times.

Smart has solid in state talent and a Richt roster. Wait til next year when Chubb and Michel are gone and he has to get all that Atlanta talent on the field without getting arrested.

Who wants to take over the worst program in the SEC, not many takers now that Currie has bungled the search.

There are some that want this job, but can't get interviews. Les Miles wants it, but hasn't gotten a call. We need to explore these options before we panic and go with a tier 2 option.

Smart ran the best defense in the country for 7 years and learned from the best in Saban. He also stepped into a great situation. Tons of talent.

Tee Martin runs a Top 25 offense if that? For just 2 years? Under the tutelage of an average head coach? Stepping into a situation that will require a ton of coaching skills.

I don't like him as a hire at this critical point.

Currie came in to the AD job and he really thinks HE should be the one to make the pick and to heck with everyone else....especially us annoying fans. That's why he thought he could get away with sneaking off and hiring the guy HE KNOWS...HIS guy. Maybe the AD should have that power. They gave him the job...and with that comes a high level of power. But in our situation and at many other programs the AD MUST consider the boosters...the fan base....businesses...etc etc.

It's actually a positive sign he went after Gundy...but after this Schiano fiasco he's screwed up so badly he's put himself and US in a bad situation.

As bad as our program has fallen due to the ineptitude of our Athletic Directors and last two head coaches, I do not believe we need to hire a coordinator with no head coaching experience. We need someone who has tackled such programs before. Perhaps an older coach for a few years, just to get the program rebuilt. Then, when the program is ready, and we have a decent Athletic Director and Haslam has been barred from ever showing his face in the UT Athletic Department, perhaps we can hire a great coach who can take us to the top tier of college football once again. We need someone who has proven he can build a program from the ground up - from the ashes our program has become.

I am a lifelong VOL fan, regardless of how far Mike Hamilton, Dave Hart, Jim Haslam, and John Currie have dragged our program through the cesspool. Go VOLS ! ! !

If indeed Les Miles isn't even being considered for the UT job, then it confirms that the entire process is a joke. :ermm:

Kevin Steele is 9-36 as a head coach and 1-31 in conference play.

If you want to roll with him all I can say is you will get what you deserve.

And now let's check that stats...It's year 2. Good Lord how could you not know this! Unfortunately UT has put themselves in a corner with the Schiano disaster. We either roll the dice on someone like Kiffin or Norvell, or the program dies. That is where we are at now.
