Why the hate on Palardy?

Under a rock obviously....<< (not supposed to be taken as negative) :)
He had an almost perfect season.... only missed 1 FG.. Oh and the one he missed.... was under 30 yards.

That was a great extra point against UNC too.

He's a freakin kicker. All he has to do is kick.

Anything 40 and under should be automatic and a good kicker won't get iffy until 45 or so and the great ones are automatic out to around 50 or so.

His two misses this year weren't even close.

I expect points if we get to the 25-30. Anything else isn't acceptable in a kicker on a good team. It's not like he is expected to do anything else. Just kick the ball.

A: He came in over hyped and hasn't lived up to it.

B: He can't kick it in the endzone.

C: Everyone one of his FG attempts hook to the left and are normally low.

D: His PAT's are low

E: I have absolutely no confidence in him to hit a clutch kick, do you?

I could go on...

Couldn't agree less with the "low" comments; he has twice the height of Lincoln's kicks. I'd certainly rather see him kicking them into the end zone, but our coverage is ranked very high under Dooley, and Palardy's kicking has been integral to that. Otherwise, I agree.

Did you not notice that even DD wrote own in his notebook after Palardy missed "gotta find a new kicker" I swear that's what he was writing!

Because this was the crazy hype on Palardy - as if we were getting the Deion Sanders of kickers (from his recruiting thread):

Palardy has 4.6 speed, can throw the ball on a rope, and can punt the lights out of the ball! Word is that he was kicking on the indoor practiced field today and hit everything up to 45 yards, missed one at 50, hit the the next one and one at 53 and was challenged to hit a 57 yarder by one of the d-backs. Hit it with 5-6 yards to spare in front of the whole team who apparently went nuts! He will out punt Darr. Darr is a muscle punter and Palardy is a power punter with excellent technique.

Unless he can punt the ball 60yds+ consistently, he ain't Palardy. Watched him at kicking camp the other day and OMG! Punting out the back of the end zone to the opposing 40yd liine in the air. Had to be 4.5 -5 sec hang time...ball in the air forever! WOW. He can angle punt and put it into a 8 by 8 yd box. I was standing nearby when the punting coach was talking to his father. He said he has a NFL leg right now.

When I find out his jersey number, I'm going to be very tempted to buy a Palardy UT jersey. I should probably not be as excited about a kicker as I am about him, but I definitely am in this case.

Now, few can live up to such high expectations, and I'm not saying Palardy won't develop into a good kicker, but the hate stems from the disappointment that he hasn't improved our dire special teams situation.

I would bet there are less than 5 on VN that could kick it to the 10yd line without bouncing it

Yeah, because we're all college kids that were recruited to kick field goals for a BCS program and were rated as the top kicker in HS our Sr. years...

your point?

Ive never been a fan of left footed kickers. He has shown me nothing to believe he was the #1 kicker out of high school a couple years ago. Guy's overhyped and just not that good. He'll have to really have one hell of a season to prove me wrong.

Just for the record... Even though he was the number one kicker out of high-school, he was still only rated 3 stars overall....

When a kid is touted as the #1 kicker in the country, I would think they could AT LEAST consistently kick the ball off past the 10 yard line...

It's not his fault he was hyped as being something he's not. If he can't kick it through the end zone then he can't kick it through the end zone. If someone say's I run a 40 in 4.35 and I run it in 5.85 it's not my fault that I can't run a 4.35. I was as pissed as anyone when he missed today but in his defense if the stats I've seen are accurate he was actually 6 for 6 inside the 40 (total 2010,11) before's today's miss so now he is 7-8. That said he is 0-3 from 40+ which obviously isn't good. HS kicking is a total different world from college (even the goal post in HS are wider) which is something I never realized until recently. btw, I think Palardy could consistently kick it to goal to 5 yard line but the coaches would rather have the extra height then length.

Most of them kick off a block as well. You might see some stray from it, but most don't. And the Tee they use in High-School is bigger as well.

And just so you know, I really want him to prove me wrong. For the sake of our team and the kicking game, I hope he gets better throughout the year. But right now he just isnt very good. Not even average imo.

I don't understand it.... He missed a FG in a game at the Swamp..... Last year Daniel Lincoln had a great season, only missed a couple of FG's and was still dogged.
We can't always have guys like Reviez, Colquitt, Walls, or Wilhoit on the team....

Palardy is a good kicker, he just hasn't had much pressure on him yet, give him time. He will develop just like everyone else on the team.

Missed FGs....blocked punt....special teams suck at UT

Yeah, but he took a really long time to get it off. About as long as Cunningham did.

Takes awhile to set up a punt, pretty rare to have the ball hit your hands perfectly from the snap. Not going to try and defend him though, because I don't remember it that well. Glad I don't have the best memory in the world as of late haha
