Why the disrespect?

If Tennessee ever realizes (dont worry they wont) that the gators realize the way to beat tennessee is to get the early lead with and shock and awe building a 21 point cushion they'll set up they're players and defense to stop that horse****. If that ever happens(which it won't) Florida's domination of the SEC is over.

Let me mention something else that I believe no one has. It's a big reason I feel sorry for dooley.

Right now tennessee doesn't have a roster that would allow for a proper practice.

It will be hard for some of the more talented players to improve going up against some of the other guys in practice

And this is why depth is so important, not only does it push starters knowing there is another talented guy right behind him but the simple act of practicing against better quality players helps prepare you for the rigors of conference play.

Not a ton worse, but not perceived as talented (according to recruiting rankings) either at this time last year.

Examples:

2009 QB: 5* RSR highly recruited by pro-style offenses across the country finally getting the chance to play in a pro-style offense
2010 QB: 3* JC transfer lightly recruited who failed to make it at lower-level Louisville

2009 RB: A top-100 recruit finally healthy who'd shown consistent flashes & the #1HSRB in the country as his backup
2010 RB: A 3* backup lightly recruited & a 4* backup

2009 OL: SR NFL prospect in LT Scott, SR NFL prospect in RG McClendon, SR NFL prospect in C McNeil (before injury), SR NFL prospect in G Richard, RFR 4* recruit Douglas
2010 OL: All 5 new OL; all 5 with little experience; only true freshman James was a 4* prospect or better

2009 DL: NFL prospects or 4/5* recruits at each DL position, and at the 2 DE backup spots
2010 DL: Williams gone, Martin injured, Walls injured, while true freshmen don't appear ready to make major immediate impact

2009 DB: Elite NFL prospect Berry anchored 2ndary
2010 DB: True sophomore Jackson anchors 2ndary

We're not at Kentucky-Vandy level, but we've slipped to barely above South Carolina-Ole Miss level, at least in terms of recruiting expectations of the talent of the team.

Excellent summary...

With the Sullins twins trying to keep Cody from blocking a field goal, I think that Gooch will give us an upgrade by mid season over Pope and over the Sullins

Do you remember Peytons junior and senior years?

One year we did the shock and awe giant lead, and lost.

The other year they did the shock and awe giant lead and we lost.

I think you will like Wilcox and you will see that even though they score it is not because our guys are out of position or getting tossed out of the way on bump and run coverage.

Tennessee is 12-13 the last two seasons and has had two coaching changes.

Maybe that has something to do with it.

I hate to agree, but I have to agree.

Perception is reality, & sometimes it clouds objectivity. With a scenario like Gator points out, even journalists who are supposed to be objective & look at facts, will tend to view things more negatively (or "glass half empty" if you will). & we're thinner at some of the positions we're improved at. Improved, but thinner.

. Most of our impact guys are young players recruited by Kiffin and Dooley.

We got into this shape because Fulmer, personally, crashed our program into the ground.

Name 3 IMPACT players that were recruited by Dooley or Kiffin. I'm not sure what the h*ll your talking about.

Lob me a softball next time...:lolabove:

Da'Rick Roger, Juwuan James, Justin Hunter.

Each will be impact players during their careers at UT.

Geeez you irritate me. :) It's not just that I've seen you less classy and tactful on this site than you are on GVX, but you're also a Phillies fan and a Jaguars fan. Wow.

This and the fact that over the last several years UT has lost close to 30 players who have quit or have been kicked off the team. It's hard to recover from that. It took Bama 10 years after losing all those schollies. I only hope it bites USC too.

Sorry, but you have to be the biggest HOMER in the world to not "understand" why we aren't getting any love right now. We can barely field a complete team for practice -- I'm sure our players are great, but asking them to play multiple positions 3 weeks before the season starts is a lot to ask for, especially with the way our first 7 games look.

First off. That's not what we were talking about. Were talking about expectations for this year and none of those guys have proven anything, let alone that they will be impact players. Juwuan James will likely start or play quite a bit but definately will not be an impact player this year.

Hopefully these guys will show up later in there career but there's no way to know what they will do. What we do know is Janzen (a Kiffin recruit) will most likely continue to make plays and thats the only Kiffin/Dooley recruit that will likely be an Impact player. I look for Gerald Jones, DMoe, Janzen, Poole, Chris Walker, and Nick Reviez to be our guys who will make plays when we need them to.

I was with you untill the practice statement. Sounds like you need to listen to the local sports media a little less. We have no problems fielding a team for practice. Guys are getting moved around, just like every other year, maybe a little more than normal because of depth issues and a first time coach trying to see what they can do. I think the general sentiment that we have a largley unproven team is the reason why we are getting no love. No way we are that bad but there's also no way we can argue that were not.

Nobody said immediate impact did they?
James will be an impact player, sooner than later.

Coming From Alabama Vocabulary is a word you have to send for to get spelled correctly.

I believe I spelled it correctly without assistance. However, I cannot vouch for the Bama ticket office or any Bama fan's ability to spell correctly the state of Mississippi.

Speaking of Tulsa, did you know that it is a violation to "open a soda bottle without the supervision of a licensed engineer." Apparently, it's too complicated for the residents of the booming Oklahoma metropolis.

The OP: I know that we are way down right now, but I don't understand the extreme disrespect this team is getting right now. Last year we were picked by scout as a sleeper team. We had just as many problems with our team last year at this time as we do this year at this time.

The Op is talking about the disrespect this team is getting THIS YEAR. He went on to compare last year's team with this years team. He's saying that he doesn't understand the disrespect that we are getting. I tend to agree with him but I do understand why Rivals and others have us ranked so low because we are very uproven at many positions. I will agree that many of our fans are disrespecting the team by downing them at every opportunity but again I think it has more to do with them trying to temper their own expectations.

I love UT Football and I believe we have a chance in every game. If not, we shouldn't play. I will admit that we will struggle this year but a team can overcome there downfalls and improve and that's whan I will be looking for this year.

The thread was about the disrespect THIS team is getting this for this year.

I know that we are way down right now, but I don't understand the extreme disrespect this team is getting right now. Last year we were picked by scout as a sleeper team. We had just as many problems with our team last year at this time as we do this year at this time. We had an unproven quarterback, unproven running back, solid wide receivers, solid tight end, under achieving o-line, under achieving d-line, unproven linebackers, and a decent secondary with one great player, and a horrible kicking game. Our coaching staff had bigger names, but weren't really any better than what we have now. I can go down the list of positions and see 5 (wide recevivers, tight end, d-line, linebackers, and kicking game) where i think we are vastly improved over last year, yet we get complete disrespect from anyone with a mic on the radio or a column in a newspaper. Someone please enlighten me. Did we not practice in the offseason? How are we a ton worse than a Georgia team we killed last year, a USCjr team we killed last year, a Kentucky team we have beaten 25 years in a row, and Miss St?!?!?

Because we switched coaches and lost a lot of our best players...we're replacing Eric Berry with Prentiss Waggner, Montario Hardesty with Tauren Poole, Dan Williams with Rae Sykes, Aaron Douglas with Dallas Thomas...etc...
