Why so much coach hate

The onside kick did it for me.
Why? The call was perfect. It was 3 against one and the play was not executed. The players didn't make the play. I don't know for sure, but it's hard to imagine they were coached to play that onside kick that way. First guy there should have taken the FL player out, next guy should have made the play.

Do you feel we have more talent this? Last year's team would have a better record so far this year?
But when we get creamed by West Virginia who whether you want to believe it or not has less talent than us talent doesn’t matter... you guys can’t have it both ways

Interesting that with some people, it's never the players fault. No matter who is coaching, it's always on the coach. Hard for me to believe every successful coach who comes here forgets how to coach.
Totally on the coaching staff
I agree, it was beyond bad. I just don't believe it is due to the Coach. Like I said, I believe if a few plays were made that were there for the taking, this game would look different.
Totally on the coaching staff
The turnovers, the missed assignments, the stupid penalties, the coaches fault?? You are not
real bright

One question for OP. Did this team look prepared to play?
I believe they were prepared to play. Things got sideways early. From what I could see the first turnover was a poor pre-snap read by the QB. I don't know this for sure, but that's what it looked like. Does that mean the whole team wasn't prepared? Then the FL d-lineman made a great play on the second turnover. Do we say the team wasn't prepared because FL took over in the red zone on two straight possessions and scored?
The other items after that I referenced in my OP.
I believe we don't have winners on this team. I believe some kids are just winners and they make plays. Unfortunately I don't believe we have many winners on this team. It wod be interesting to see what the current roster's highschool success looks like. How many highschool state champions do we have on this team?

I'm a believer that it's a coaches job to put his players in position to be successful.

While the game is nauseating and tough to watch, it's hard to say it's because of the coach.
The first 4th down call was a good call, and the player didn't make a play.
The onside kick was a great call, but the players didn't make the play.
The FL TD after the safety was not a bad defensive call. A freshman stopped covering his man leading to a TD.
The second 4th down call was a good call, but the player didn't make the play.

I don't believe the players didn't make these plays because they haven't been coached. I think it's due to them not having experience making these plays when the opportunity is there. I believe this comes from the former coach not putting his players in position to be successful. The success that was had with the former staff was mainly due to players making things happen on their own (Dobbs).

I am encouraged that we have a coach that puts players in position to make plays. I hope these plays start to be made and we start recruiting kids that only know one way, and that way is to make the plays that come your way.

Because it's considered taboo to hate on players

Pruitt is a good coach.

I blame Butch. Its a talent thing, granted Offense and preparation wasnt there.

So, you would have been trashing Saban his first year at Alabama because he lost to Louisiana Monroe? I'm pretty sure Bama had more talent.

It's been said time and time again but needs repeating. Name one player on both sides of the ball tha would start on any SEC team besides Arkansas.

You certainly wouldn't find a team that any of our linemen would start for maybe with the exception of Trey Smith.

Pruitt and his staff are paddling around the shallow end of the SEC tonight, and still can't keep their heads above water.

We haven't been ready to play yet. This should not be a place for on the job training.

This is why I rarely get on here anymore. We have unrealistic expectations from fairweather fans. If you wonder why many coaches would never come here to coach ? I wouldn't come here to coach for any amount of money. As long as we have fans who are impatient with every new coach who comes in, Tennessee will remain a second tier team. A program will be successful if it continues to recruit top players, and fans provide support even in down times for players and coaches. Watching every game, I have seen linemen miss blocking assignments. A pulling guard doesn't even touch a defender while moving toward the sidelines as the runner cuts up field. As a former lineman myself, I was taught to block a body. The blocking system I was taught was to block the man who was to my inside first, the man to my outside second, then the man over last. For a lineman not to block a body every time is inexcusable. The coach cannot get on the field and perform for the players. At some point, the players need to be accountable and responsible for their performance. Back when I played, if you didn't perform you were replaced by someone else. So, what is the problem ? It may be a combination of fan support, player accountability, and coaching. I'd like to see better fan support and give our new coack a couple of years at least to turn things around. What I have seen the last couple of years is pampering of players and now we have a coach who demands the best from players. It is going to take time to change the environment because habits are hard to change for 18 year olds. Discipline takes time especially for players who have been pampered.

This game is not on the coaching. The turnovers are killing us. Can’t hang that on the coaches.
Agreed..with the caveat that if this level of turnovers continues late into the season then it is coaching then. I think Pruitt gets it taken care of.

WV beat Kansas state 35-7 today and called it off in the 4th. Miss st didn’t beat KSU as bad

Like it or not WV is a good football team and we are not.
If you think we’re more talented than WV you should stop watching football

Either this team didn't have all the talent that many here claimed, or Pruitt isn't doing a good job. It can't be both.

I'm leaning towards all that talent talk was hogwash.

Because society these days is about instant gratification and results..... good things come from hard work and effort. We are definitely in rough shape but a lot of it is due to the roster BJ left behind.

Pruitt is in over his head. He's continuing in the ways of the previous coaches the past 10 years. Chewing out players on TV and on the field while throwing temper tantrums does not bode well with me. Just waiting for the buy out now.
