Why so cold?

I like Barnes but his system isn’t conducive for a consistently good offensive team
We'll certainly find out, but I think last night will be more of an outlier. This was a good test and we were right there. Think we'll find out against Kansas and UNC games coming up.

We're throwing too many excuses around. Both teams had the same
excuses. Their top players also were off the mark and Edey was in foul
trouble the whole game.

Truth of the matter is that Purdue is the best team in the country and UT
stayed with them and had a chance at the upset.

We watched 2 FF teams last night. No team plays perfect for a full game.
You said it better than I did.

DK normally had been driving to the hoop during those drought...problem.was the mlsecond he tried he was getting hacked and stripped by an off ball defender with no fouls being called.

Because Barnes recruits mentally soft players. Great human beings but zero toughness when it counts. Lights are always too bright

We matched physicality w/ arguably the best team in the country. Had a cold night shooting but kept fighting and didn't mail it in when there were 2-3 times in second half I thought we were toast. I'd much rather play this sort of a game than Tennessee Tech or some meaningless game.

Yup, which is what makes Purdue so good. They are going to control the glass almost every single night - the margin for error is razor thin if you don’t hit shots.

I’ll be honest, I don’t expect much tomorrow as I’m sure our legs will be toast after that wrestling match. But it will be telling if we continue to have nights like tonight (like last season) or if it proves to be a one off. Still, id rather my bad offensive nights be 67 points than the abortion in the garden ™️ against Texas tech in 2021.
I think today‘s game is where our team depth advantage kicks in. Aidoo and Awaka didn’t play a lot yesterday because of fouls. I think we will substitute strategically to give guys some rest. In the end I feel like we will beat Kansas today because we have more bodies, but basketball is weird sometimes.

Bottom line we were destroyed on the boards (box score shows Tobe and Aidoo each with 1 reb in 26 min of game time), did not get to the line especially the last 10 min, and we are not getting much from ZZ and SV right now (1 out of 10 from 3 is abysmal and a +/- of 0 and 3 respectively were 2 of the 3 lowest out of the 8 players who played 10 min or more).

And we were right there at the end.

DK was very good but would have liked to see us post-up him up in the 2nd half to get him more involved vs. letting Purdue take him away which is basically what happened. Thank goodness Jordan finally hit some 3's when it was do or die - really like what he brings even though he struggled for most of this game. 5th foul called on Tobe was a joke and really hurt as he was starting to take over. The refs sucked all around.

We had at least 5 or 6 wide open, uncontested 3s that we just missed. You can't ask for better looks than those were, so it is hard to blame Barnes for that. Generally speaking, I like it when we attack the basket, but having a 7'4" guy in the paint does make that a little harder. Santi and Zeigler still need to find their rhythm offensively, and Gainey was in a bit of a funk until he hit those 3s in the second half. Awaka was doing well inside when the refs allowed him to play, but he fouled out in 12 minutes. Knecht was solid overall, but couldn't really get going inside in the 2nd half.

When you go into scoring droughts, you HAVE TO attack the rim. Knecht was supposed to be able to do that. And usual, he disappeared and was a walking TO. JJJ has NEVER been an attacker, so... this is what we are stuck with. We need an ELITE scorer who can create his own shot at will. We havent had one since... who? Cant remember its been so long

It's just not a shooter's gym. Rims are very tight. Not saying that's the only reason, but I think it's a contributing factor.

Well, mods go ahead and end thread. After today's game, everyone please return to original post and simply rinse & repeat. Nothing changed v KU.

The day Vescovi finds his shot is the day that this Tennessee team becomes a legit Final Four caliber team. Just an okay shooting night from him would have gotten us over the jump tonight.
he is a lefty so is JJJ - not to many great 3 point shooters are left handed -- james Harden but thats NBA

You forgot that you have to go through 4 teams to get to final 4

Don’t have the answer to that BUT I can’t remember ever seeing more balls go down and come out of the rim like today. I know Gainey had three and DK had three as well. Just not something you see a lot.

I’m hopeful Vescovi is gonna find his stroke. He’s been absolutely awful from 3. Ziegler too. Pretty much everyone except Knecht. I just hope the weird uptightedness doesn’t rub off on Knecht.

Knecht is just a high level offensive player.
