We have our QB,running backs, etc returning.Unless you are trying to say we are turning into the Colts and have to score 30 a game to win.:banghead2:

We lost 2 good WRs, possibly 3, and the schedule is more difficult.

@ Cal
@ Florida
@ Alabama
v. Georgia (we haven't beaten UGA in Neyland since 1999)
v. S. Carolina
@ Kentucky

Going 4-2 in those 6 would be hard to do.

The offense you are referring to went 9-4 this year and is likely losing three of its most important players.

I agree with the question. When your QB is a senior, and you are in the upper half of the league, you should expect to contend. And I do.

Because being positive about anything would just be wrong.

I feel like 2006 striding into 2007 seems like going from 2000-2001. Thoughts?

I feel better about that schedule. We always play better as the underdog.. :dance2:

schedule not withstanding, because that's obviously a factor as it is a little more difficult with the road games we have, i don't see us getting so much better up front that we are an SEC title contender for real next year.

i think ainge will give us an advantage, as will being 3 deep at RB. WR should be talented, but un proven.

defensively, the secondary gets a little younger..i read today where Hef and Morely will likely move to corner and we'll have two new safeties. up front, they'll be more experienced, but i don't know that it will translate in to being a dominant front like we're used to.

the offensive line loses its best player. and we are replacing Wilhoit with a freshman more than likely.

expectation: 8-4/9-3, a lot like this year.

From this side of next season looking ahead, we should be favored to win all of those games except Florida (the Cal line will be very close, whichever way it breaks, but I think we should win.) Arkansas could be another very tough home game.

Sorry to rain on your parade, OWB, but I don't think we are going to be dogs very often.

Cal lost Marshawn Lynch to The NFL draft.

We are in contention most years. Unfortunately the contention goes away with one point or close losses to UF, UGA or someone else. We need to get over that perviable hump again like we did in years paste. This is will mean players will have to believe and play with alot of heart as they did in years prior. Not sure what is missing but hopefully chemistry will get better. If not, another 9-3 year.

I have nothing but confidence and positive thoughts about most of the players. All my negatives go towards the coaches.

Could you elaborate on the parallels that you see? I don't follow.

It's not exactly the same, but here are the few off the top of my head. I'll find some more in a bit. :)

8-3 regular season in 2000, 9-3 in 2006
5-3 in the SEC in 2000, 5-3 in the SEC in 2006
Terrible bowl game in 2000, Terrible bowl game in 2006
247 points scored in 2000, 244 in 2006
133 points allowed in 2000, 138 points allowed in 2006
Starting QB returning in 2000, same in 2007

I'm looking for stats from 2000, having a hard time.

It's cool, I'm just saying it because it's the most common phrase associated with Tennessee Football.

The lines are the foundation for success on both sides of the ball. I just don't see anything to suggest that either line will be much better next year. Maybe some very young guys will dazzle us?

That makes sense. The major difference I see is that in 2000, a lot of our troubles involved finding a QB that could win games for UT. They found him at the end of the season, thus setting up a successful 2001. I don't think we found any solution for the problems of 2006.

True. I really hope McLendon and the other young OL prospects are realllllllllly going to mature.
