Saban proved he couldnt win on an equal playing field in the nfl. He is an above average defensive coordinator Ill give him that. However his success at Alabama is simply due to having the best players and making them play w discipline. Discipline is easy to do when u can bench a player and replace him w one just as good.
Your opening line, plus #1 and #3 are the answer.
Because hes a good HC who gets the most out of his players.
I'll add that the issue overy Bama players getting deferred payment loans for expensive vehicles from a non-booster was, as far as I know, a first. Those loans are not commercially reasonable and nobody who answers to stockholders would ever authorize those loans. They figured out a way to pay for play without violating the letter of the rules while completely trashing the spirit and purpose of the rules.
We had 2. Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer. We fired both when we shouldn't have at the time. Now we are reaping the whirlwind because of it. JMOWas thinking about this while watching some old 30 for 30s. He is still old school to a point. None of the let's advertise our sleep studies stuff like Butch has pulled. Dabo is much the same. I honestly hope UT hires a guy with old school mentality but has adapted to the changing game instead of some quirky flash in the pan salesman. Tennessee sells itself
Nothing says discipline like signing a player with Felony Domestic Violence warrants.I believe his secret is discipline. He demands it of players and staff. If he sees a coach that isn't teaching solid technique, or technique that doesn't support his plan he drops the hammer. If a player is playing lazy, not applying himself in position meetings, dogging it in physical training he drops the hammer. I also think he demands perfection in position technique/110% effort at all times. Constantly pushing, demanding, evaluating.
There is no doubt that Saban is a good coach.
However, the level of dedication to the success of that program shown by those around it is unprecedented. Their are banks, car dealerships, and several other business that ensure those football players have everything they want that is likely unmatched by any other school.
Mainly due to the fact that they are in a sucky state that largely depends on their success for economic reasons.
Couple that with the fact that the SEC knows where their money lies and therefore they are unwilling to look into anything and show tremendous leneacy when they are forced to.
