To gain from playing this team .

- play an offense which you will not see any way shape or form In your other games.
- higher chance of getting someone hurt bc of their style
- if you lose , you suck , win and should have

Some guys close to the program believe scheduling was the worst thing Hart did to our football program while here. He has put us in some tough spots the last couple years

No offense at all, but this is at least the third post about this very subject. I get your point and agree with you, but it is what it is at this point. Play them, beat them, and move on.

Yeah playing GA State will make us a better team! Play power 5 teams will only make you better. Who cares what type of offense they run. If they go after knees then it's up to Officials to call it. If the hanky is thrown 2-3 times on first offensive series then that will help.

I like that we open with Tech. Definitely gonna be a challenge, and after the horrible run D from last year, this is a perfect opportunity for Shoop to earn his paycheck. All that being said though I'd trade our opener with Florida in a heartbeat. Way more reward then risk IMO

Get over it.....Go 9-0 in the SEC and it will take care of itself......Scheduling that cannot be avoided....Quit whining about injuries before the game is played....jeez. Enjoy the season at least before it starts....this is an opportunity to Excel and win this game and move on.

this would have been better posted when the game was announced a couple years ago.

that said, i don't think anyone that saw this game come up didn't initially think the same thing.

in the end, it doesn't matter. it's a marquis match up on a Monday night of a holiday weekend...we're the capper to the opening weekend of college football. that's not a bad thing.

and winning the game could do wonders for confidence and perception. the same could be said if we lose though. :)

OP, I have just one paper bag left. Almost all of them were used up over the summer as other people realized we're playing a wishbone team. You're a little late to the game, but you're in luck. Here, breathe into this, it'll be okay.

According to Brian Rice, GA Tech wasn't originally scheduled for that game. Another acc team backed out and Hart said the only way we would play Tech is if it was the season opener.

There is rarely anything to gain from our non conference games.

The experience is the only gain.

I've been to Atlanta. The only thing it's good for is watching the Vol play.

Back in the day, I would go watch the Braves play.

Home and home with quality teams would be nice.It makes for a good road trip to places you would never go unless to follow the Vol. Nobody goes to Southbend IN for vacation.
Same goes for Athens Ga. It's not a vacation spot.

Really doesn't matter whether we should have or should not have scheduled them. They are there and we need to go out and beat them

It's the Kickoff Classic. Did Hart think it would be played later in the year?

Vol fans yearn for the time a GT game will be just a warm up, but Tech has been very competitive against SEC teams, just a warm up for GT, let's hope not!
Go Vols

1. When we agreed to the game, it was another ACC team that was scheduled to the the opponent. They dropped out.

2. When we agreed to keep the game with Georgia Tech as the opponent, they were coming off a 3-9 season and there was a strong belief that Johnson would be gone and this game would be against a first-year head coach trying to play a real offense with a bunch of players recruited to run the option.

3. Nut up and win a very winnable game and move on.

Isn't GT an old SEC Rival because our quarterback was their HC?

Bobby Dodd was one of Tennessee's best ever QB's and his record proves it, he later became GT's HC and put Tech on the National stage (used to be in the SEC).....one of Tennessee's finest and one of GT's finest.....what a coach
Go Vols

I think what may have happened was UT had another ACC team scheduled, it fell through, and GT was available. At that point Hart said the only way UT would play GT is if it was the 1st game of the season.
