I'd rather take our chances with Simms as the backup rather than lose a yr w/ Worley

Why make a decision about the red shirt until after Spring practice? Who knows, he may be the best we have.

one thing i can tell you about simms is that boy can take a hit. he may not be great, but at least he displays toughness. in this league, that comes a long way. just saying. i'd feel ok with him as a back-up.

You don't have to make the decision after spring either. You can play it by ear and if you don't end up needing him during the season you put the shirt on him when its over.

Simms is a solid back-up, I feel good with him there. He won't win us the game, but if something should happen, he probably won't lose it either.

I like a good QB competition in the Spring, helps keep people working hard and motivated. I think Raulston has a better chance than Nance to be #3 given Nance's foot surgery and Raulston's need to redeem himself from the stupidity last Fall.

How can you say that Worley is better than Simms? Simms held his own against several SEC powerhouses with the most inexperienced line in the league. Worley has some work to do with his arm strength and learning SEC defenses. Plus, he's just out of high school so you have no basis for comparison. For some reason, the savior is always the one riding the pine.

Some of the things a good game managing QB must do are below....Simms performance in these areas was poor. Right now he is the backup QB but imo it is a position he will be beat out of.

-Get first downs
-Don’t turn over the ball.

That's just absolute crap. Tell me when the last time was that you saw ANY SEC quarterback take a hit, and walk off the field in tears. The ability to take a hit doesn't mean anything. Having the intelligence to get rid of the football so that you're NOT taking tons of hits means a great deal more. Simms doesn't have it.

The goal of a quarterback is to complete passes and lead the team on scoring drives. It's not to take hits well.

Simms is 0 for 5 in those categories, but it's okay because he "held his own" last year. :whistling:
