I have searched back through various threads regarding possible replacements for CBJ. I have seen several who are very adamant about not wanting to hire Mike Leach. My question is why? He has won at high levels in the Big 12. His offenses were record breaking . His defense at Washington St. looks legit this year. He has been able to recruit to Washington St, which historically is a very hard sell. I know the circumstances behind his firing , but wasn't it proven to be basically a sham perpetrated by Craig James and his prima Dona son? Seems to me like he has served his rehabilitation stint and would at least be willing to listen to an offer from a big time SEC program.

I don't think Leach has the personality for coaching an SEC power. I like him a lot but I am afraid of what his relationship would be with the fans

He’s like Butch in a sense that he is perfect for jobs that don’t have national expectations. Also, I think he would be a bad culture fit.

Wouldn’t be the worst hire. He’s a good fallback option if our top guys say no.

I get the culture thing, in that he doesn't kiss babies and glad hand the media. We have had that 5 years now and how is that working ? And our expectations will always be the SECCG, which I believe Leach would be capable of reaching within 2-3 years, especially if the East stays as weak as it has been now for several seasons

Most don't think he can recruit well enough in the SEC. Also, even though he was an avid Trump supporter, many think he's a poor fit for Tennessee's conservative culture. I don't know if either of those things are true, but that's what people say. I would like to see Chip Kelley. Imagine if he could bring some of that Nike innovation to UT, the Oregon of the SEC. Recruits would love it. While I'm not a huge fan of all the uniform combos, Oregon led the way in a lot of other areas too, such as their speed and conditioning programs.

Debord's offense was record breaking too, but people couldn't stop griping and moanin about that either. Unless we hire Saban most of you guys will disrespect UT anyway.

I think that’s definitely a possibility but he’s never thrived against great, not good, defenses. I just think he wouldn’t be better than Butch because his gigs at Tech and Wazzou aren’t teams where there is an expectation to compete for “BCS caliber” bowls and championships.

Is he better than Butch? Hell yes. Is he the best person for a job that has national expectations? No.

I personally love Coach Leach. But I agree, I don't think he "fits" Tennessee. I don't think the majority of the fan base, nor the administration would care much for his unique personality. And they would gasp at his post game interviews. Like I said, I love the guy's uniqueness and think he is a fantastic coach. The job he has done at Wazzu has been amazing.

No evidence he can recruit or field a team with a good defense. Don’t want to find out if he can here.

well his team is currently hovering right around the top 10 and did a pretty good job of stopping the preseason heisman candidate the other night. He is obviously recruiting Some form of talent .
