The man just earns playoff births and wins championships every where he goes! He's won conference championships in 5 of the 7 years that he has been a head coach. He won a Division II national championship at Lenoir Rhyne. At the Citadel, he took a program that has been historically bad, and made the playoffs. At James Madison, he currently has a record of 25-1 and is working on potential back to back FCS championships. I understand that he doesn't have FBS experience, but neither Jim Tressel prior to being hired by Ohio State! He is a much better option than some of the other lower tier coaches I have seen mentioned if indeed Gruden, Frost, and the others have turned us down! I would rather take our chance on someone who has a history of winning championships (albeit at a lower level) as opposed to hiring someone who we know isn't going to win championships here!

Obviously this job is not attractive to any big names. Hasn't been since Johnny came marching home. We never get "the guy"

But somewhere out there is the next BIG thing. Let's find him!!

Mike Houston at James Madison is 25 -1 in 2 yrs with 1 NC so far with 2017 a chance for #2. Won everywhere he's been. No big time program yet, but I'm ok with that.

Who was Mike Gundy before he got a shot? Who was Petrino, who was Urban Meyer?

Chris Peterson did a ton of damage at Boise with 2* recruits.

Find the next Star and go get him! I'm for Mike Houston.

I'd definitely be on board with Mike Houston before an unproven FBS coach like say PJ Fleck, Mike Bobo, ect. I would prefer Norvelle or Kiffin. Frost would be great, but probably not obtainable from what it appears at this stage. There is a precedent for a championship FCS level coach winning big at the FBS level. Jim Tressel did quite well at Ohio State.

Yes! Yes! And Yes some more. Been saying this for months now. Have personally seen Mike Houston coach at Lenior Rhyne where he took them to a National Title game (LR is 5 mins from my house and they were abysmal before he got here and are again since he left). Also, I am next door neighbors with close friends of the Houston family. He is a stand-up guy and a freaking awesome head coach. Not only has he won everywhere but he has done it with multiple offenses that suit the personnel on his team. This is a coach that I can 100 % get behind and he would be a long term hire at UT. Somebody make the call.

As good as we will fine. Better to move on him now and get going forward. We won't be able to recruit for anything, lets go all in on a developer of what talent we can scrap together.

Mike coached at the high school I went to and he took a dismal program to conference championships and state playoffs. That being said, I just don't know if he would be ready for the grind of the SEC.

If he was hired, I am sure he would have major difficulties for a few years and by then the fan base would be calling for his head. Let's get the next Google coach out of the way the go after him as I am sure he will keep moving up the coaching ranks.

Just asked this question on another thread. Have been wondering when someone else would pick up on him. From what I know about him, I think he would do an excellent job. I understand the lack of FBS experience, but the guy is a proven winner at every level he has coached. I really like the idea!

Did you go to TC too? I think if/when Tee says no, that he should be the next guy in the list

I started a thread on Satterfield today and zero replies.

He's scheduled a brutal OOC and held his own.

Honestly, never heard of him until now, but all he does is win. Quite a resume.

As someone has said on here before, Dooley proved you don't have to recruit much at TN and still be in top #20. With a good coach, you can beat some good teams with that talent, then recruiting will get better.

Miles would be great as well I have no clue why it wasn't him over schaino but better to google and learn about the man as our coach vs him kicking our teeth out later and learning it then. Mike Houston is the real deal.

Can't understand why no mention of coach Patterson of TCU.

This coach is willing and ready to sign with UT and continues to rank in the top ten year after year....So, what is the problem?????????
