Why not Franklin?

Franklin's team beat us way worse than South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi State, Florida and Missouri. How can you ignore that?

Alot of emotion involved. Our guys were in a funk all week and Vandy was pumped for that game. I work out with a former Vandy player and he told me how ready they were for that game. Totally different set of circumstances on our side. I think they were beat before they got off the bus. If you want to claim Franklin is a good coach fine but I would puke if hired by UT. That said, no way in hell would that happen.

Yeah, I know it won't happen. All the comments on this forum pretty much confirmed my thinking. Franklin won't be considered for UT mostly because he's a Vandy coach. But I don't see anything wrong with giving someone their props. He has done something at Vandy that no other coach has done.

No one on this forum makes that decision. This is a business to Hart, if he thought Franklin was the best option he would offer him. The boosters, thats another story. We have far better options than James Franklin.

IMO, Franklin's success is more due to teams being down than him being some great coach. Who has he really beat? They beat MO, AU, OM, KY, and TN. Yea that looks good on paper or if you listen to Nashville sports talk but look at where those teams are right now. They played three ranked teams this year and lost all three games by a combined score of 96-33. I'll say this for Franklin he has done a great job of marketing himself.

Did you delete the parts where he beat a ranked team or something?

I wouldn't take Franklin at UT if he volunteered to coach for free. Keep him where he's at. We deserve better.

Yes, that is all fascinating stuff. You obviously know your Vandy football but can you show me one quality team he has beat???

Success at vandy isn't measured by number of ranked wins in the first two years. You measure Franklin against the history of that program. He has clearly done very special things for them. His recruiting has been nothing short of a miracle and clearly if he stays there for a few more years it will be fair to expect bigger wins since he is recruiting head to head with the big boys now but until them the turn around for that program speaks for itself.

Why not Franklin... Because he is Vandy's/Peabody's hc and as a UT supporter i never want anything that has been associated with that school. I dont care what milestones have been reached.

I don't think people are being very open minded about how much Franklin has done in the SHORT time he has been there. Sure he hasn't beaten a top 25 team. He doesn't have Marcus Lattimore or Jadeveon Clowney type players either. Think about the talent level on his team compared to the other teams that you are expecting him to beat. He has improved Vandy's recruiting talent tremendously in the short time he has been there. He had his team ranked 17th in recruiting this year.... 17th, which was 6 rankings higher than UT. Think about it man. VANDY.... had a 17th ranked recruiting class. That's CRAAAAAZY good for Vandy. They have been competing against teams like Florida, South Carolina, Auburn and Georgia that have veteran top ten recruiting talent. Not really a fair comparison. Man, seriously? We're talking Vandy here. They don't have the money, the fan base, the facilities, or the tradition to get the kind of talent they are getting. And remember, he started in December of 2010 so in fairness, he has only had one full year to recruit the kind of kids he wants. Franklin has helped them accomplish these milestones WITHIN the 3 year period that most people say is needed for a coach to build a program. ANYONE who can do what he has done for Vandy in 2 years is a great coach. I am not a Vandy fan but I give people credit where credit is due. I guess some people will hate no matter what the circumstances.:acute:

I guess so. :) I used to pull for Vandy as long as they werent playing UT and I liked Bobby Johnson but I cant stand the snake oil salesman they have over there right now. I also thing the bowl game will be his last at Vandy.

I guess you hated Fulmer and Doug Mathews also. They were definitely both associated with that school at one point in their career. I'm sure there are others in our long history.

Franklin has improved Vandy which is a difficult task. If he continues to win he will be snapped up by a better program. But he will never coach at UT. There is too much animosity and he is disliked by the fans here.

Theres a good chance the bowl game will be his last at Vandy.

Gentlemen, the guy we need, and I stress "need", is right down the road in Nashville.

Strong, Fedora, or any other name on anyone's short list, pales in comparison to James Franklin when it comes to recruiting, motivating, and coaching in the SEC.

If you want to win big and win fast, then look no further than Franklin.

Get over the Vanderbilt meme that you carry around in your back pocket, it is so stupid and could cost you a fantastic coach because some people want to act lie they are 12 years old. I want to win and he is our very best chance now.

I actually wouldn't be opposed to Franklin if other names don't materialize. But, he'd be below a lot of others, including Petrino.

we should fire Hart 3 times before Franklin is ever considered

what is wrong with you people?

I agree with this.
Also, it seems to me that Franklin is not intimidated by any other program and his players take on that mentality.
I prefer a coach with a record of overachievement at a lower program ala Meyer at Bowling Green/Utah, Spurrier at Duke, Kelly at Grand Valley State, Cincy, etc... That's where you get your future coaching stars and I believe there's a good chance that Franklin is a rising star
