Boy you took my words way out of context. I am not proud of losing or what we have done the last 3 years. I want Dooley gone. But people want to compare Franklin to Dooley but you have to research the reason why Franklin had won some games. If he had the same schedule as us last year, he would not have gone to a bowl. Please tell me where I am wrong. This thread is about James Franklin, not UT or Derek Dooley. Why can't you see this? Franklin had feasted in beating bad teams. Yes, Vandy is a bad program, but yesterday's win was the first against a WINNING team I believe. And please don't come back with Dooley's record because I don't care about Dooley- I care about our next coach.

The relevant question for this thread is not how Vandy would have fared against our schedule last year, but how UT would have fared had Franklin been the UT coach. imho, we would have been in a bowl.

Football isn't a popularity contest. There have been plenty of coaches that have gone to coach at places they probably didn't like before taking the job. It's all about the $ in today's game.

I'm not saying Franklin is the best candidate out there, but he's a good coach. He has his players believing and has gotten the most out of them these last two years.

Sure, he has some wins over cupcake teams, but he has had Vandy fighting hard against quality opponents. He could have beaten USCe at the beginning of this year if the refs would have called that PI penalty. Getting Vandy to two consecutive bowl games has already increased their national perception.

Honestly, who is going to come to coach at UT that is a "big name?" Gruden isn't coming, no matter how much people here want him to. Tressel is getting too old and has a show-clause. I wish we would look at Petrino because the guy is a straight up winner, but people here would kill the guy for being a scumbag (football isn't a morality contest). Patterson and Peterson aren't going to leave their programs--where they're already winning. Who then are we going to get? There are very few options on the table at the moment.

I like him. I'd take him at this point. I'd like to see what he could do at a real SEC school. He would be in my top 8 realistic hires.

Maybe, just maybe the reason hart is so quiet is because James Franklin is our next coach and he has to stay quiet until after this week.

I don't care about how terrible the record of the teams he's beaten is. The point is before he got there, Vandy's record was worse. It's Vandy we're talking about. If you can beat anyone with Vandy you're doing pretty good. I think we're forgetting just how bad Vandy is.

Whether you like Franklin or not, the guy can coach. He is also a really good recruiter. The way he recruits at Vandy he would be a machine at UT. He would have the Vols around the top 5 every year. He has gotten as much as he possibly could out of what he has had to work with at Vandy. He has without a doubt improved their program significantly. I would take him in a heartbeat.

If we can't land a home run hire? Look at the product he's putting on the field. It's just plain out coaching of Dooley and he can recruit.

Franklin is a complete douche bag but he is a winner. He has changed a culture at Vandy, recruited better than anyone should be able to at Vandy, and has done more with less than just about any other coach in the SEC. We could do much worse than him.

You guys are ignorant. We just got beat 41-18 by a team that we have far superior talent than. And to those of you saying he's a ****, his players bust their ass for him, while dooley's don't give a **** about their head coach. If they did, we wouldn't have lost 41-18 to Vandy. Franklins players love him and he is an up-and-comer coach that has proven himself. That's why if we don't get grudenor Peterson, which we won't, we should go after him.

I had the same thought tonight while watching the final minutes of the game.











Then I slapped myself and it went away.

Beating Dooley is not a hireable accomplishment. If it was, we could hire half the coaches he's coached against.
