Why not Franklin?

one of the things that has been entertaining about this board is the continuous need to try to belittle opposing teams considering the level of suck that tennessee has displayed

Doesn't matter, got Gruden.

The announcers really hyped up Franklin last night - So does anyone think he will be a Dan Mullen and stay at Vanderbilt OR jump ship when a big offer comes his way ? As for Spurrier anyone think he might retire after this season - losing Lattimore and several others and really no realistic shot at an NC at that school -- stay or hang it up ?

13-1* against teams that finished the season with 6 or less wins or FCS teams. (the 1 loss was to us last year)

0-10 against teams that finished the season with 7+ wins.

*Ole Miss and Missouri could still get to a bowl and finish with 7 but both have uphill battles next week to get to 6 and seems unlikely that they win.

Is being reported as a strong candidate to replace Dooley. I'm just telling you what I just watched. They didn't "confirm" anything....just made out like he may be at the top of the list. We just sat here and watched it live at 4:38 a.m. central standard time.

Still watching it at 5:08 a.m. and they just said they will be talking more about it in just a minute. Here is a link to their live online stream: Live coverage from Nashville's News 2 - WKRN, Nashville News, Nashville Weather and Sports

Wow I don't think they are dealing in reality, but I've heard people talk about worse coaches on this site. Maybe they are just trying to use some of hos Nashville star power fo ratings.

He'll be back next season.

Given recent hiring history, I would bet that the potential candidates we hear of between now until a replacement is named, will not be one who actually is hired

I think when the new coach is named there will be a lot of disappointment on volnation.com, JMO.

Worth a look. He did just lead a less-talented, underfunded program in a total beatdown of UT. I think he thrives in the underdog role and not sure he could succeed as a front runner.

I'm looking at channel 2 website, I don't see anything about franklin

Keep watching it. It's not a Tennessee football newscast. They're reporting other things too. They mentioned Gruden and began talking about Franklin again just a minute ago and said, "more on that in just a moment." Right now they're talking about stocks and other news. It's probably just all speculation but the first time they announced it at 4:48 a.m. it was as if they were saying he was at the top of the list. Maybe they're just stirring up viewers....I don't know.

I'm not a big fan of Franklin but he can coach ball. He also is good at motivating a players and a fan base. He would need to work on his PR skills if we want him to represent our great university. Not totally opposed to it like I would have been before they beat the crap out of us last week.
