we talk about having all this money and multiple boosters worth billions, well, go get a homerun proven coach.

Otherwise, play the chance game and offer a guy between 4 and 6 million a year. If you are lucky, he will win you a title. Lucky.

Had to give you a like for not abandoning your thread.

Can I get the popcorn concession on this 'un?

Go offer Dabo 20 million per year to coach this team. Why not? Make him the undisputed highest paid coach in America and he might just jump ship. Bam! Proven national championship caliber coach in his prime with many good years to come. It's like trading for Gretzky!

And we wonder why people think UT fans are delusional?

If we are going big let's go Bill Belichick. He makes 7.5 million a year (BTW that is less than Nick Saban, one of the coaches that started their career under him). Decrease the stadium upgrades by 10 or more million and hire him. Revenue from the fanfare around the hire will nearly double anything you cut from it.

1. Tennessee would never pay that
2. Dabo would probably still turn it down

Truth is, if Dabo Sweeney was offered $20 mil to coach Tennessee, he would be a fool to not take it. Nothing remarkable about this man--after his second or third year at Clem's-son, he was looking to be 'let go'. No magic there--well, maybe there was some 'magic' there.

Fact is, this whole recruiting thing is nothing more than marketing (not my specialty). It isn't a matter of cycles as much as it is 'waves'. The Sweeney wave is about 3/4 over us--what is the next wave?

Does anyone think for one minute that Clemson, with their only legacy being Danny Ford, the most crooked coach in possibly US history, is more worthy of a championship type coach than Tennessee?

Fact is, I don't think for one minute that Sweeney is anything more than a flash in the pan--a momentary zeitgeist of the football coaching world.

He will pass. We can do better. We should just move on to the next great one.

Worthy of? WTH is even supposed to mean. You think because we were good in the Neyland years and had a good run in the 90s and early 2000s that were somehow worthy of having a coach fall in our laps? I don't know if I should laugh or cry at something that preposterous. The only thing you're worthy of is what you go out and earned.

As far as Dabo goes, he just won his third straight ACC title and third straight playoff berths. That's even after losing his all world QB Watson to the NFL. That's not a flash in the pan. It's called consistency.

And Dabo will, with almost 100% certainty, go to Bama when Nick retires. Which means I will probably never see us beat them again. Nice thought to take to my death bed.

He would be a fool to go to Alabama. They will build statues of him at Clemson. He makes all the money he needs without the lunacy.
