Why Not a Home and Home with Chattanooga?

Relax player. Just trying to have a discussion with ya. Nobody is talking sh!t. My post said give them ammunition for talking sh!t.
But that’s what I’m saying, if a UTC fan came up and tried talking crap because we won’t schedule a H/H I would laugh in their face.

We played ETSU @ their place not long ago and it was fun. I don’t see the problem with it, I actually find it sets up amazing environments.

It’s a money thing.

UTC wants the money they get from coming to Tennessee. Neither Tennessee nor UTC would gain anything from the game being at Chattanooga.

Sure it’s done all the time (a 1 & 1) but it’s mutually beneficial to just do it the way it is this year.

I’ve noticed the Tar Heels playing away games at some small college venues Inside North Carolina during the last couple of years.

So your saying UTC receives a larger payment to play the Vols in Knoxville vs the money they’d make from selling out the Round house?

But really it’s about $ gained.

How much “profit” would UTC make from a sold out home game......vs the money they would receive from Tennessee in an away game........combined with “profit” from some random home game.

I say play Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, etc at the FedEx Forum every year, on an orange floor painted with our logos, on CBS prime time, and make the event a marketing slam dunk.

I dont think Tennessee is allowed to do that. I think Memphis has some gaurentee with the FedEx Forum that it can veto other college games being played their or something like that but I could be completely wrong.

The only $ figure I found was Kentucky paid Robert Morris $140K for a game. Anyone know what UT is paying Chattanooga for today’s game?

Chattanooga has a basketball seating capacity of 10,928. At an average ticket price of $15 plus parking and concessions Chattanooga might generate close to $200K for a home game with UT?

Right, but take away the $200k away game they’re paid by UT and they break even...when in reality they could play UT on the road and make $200k and then a MM at home and make $100k+.

Well, you can't cry about wanting to keep in state kids and at the same time not showcase the flagship team across the state whenever it is convenient.
i can't imagine this conversation. "Coach Barnes, i grew up a UT fan, and i'm a 4-star athlete, but you never played a game at Austin Peay or Tennessee Tech, so I'm going to play at Wake Forest instead"

This is a selfish post really. But we play UTC on Monday. UTC's arena holds 10-12K, it would be packed out in orange if Tennessee played there.

Georgia played at UTC a few years ago so its not crazy to suggest it. It seems like plenty of P5 schools play at smaller schools. I'd like to see the Vols in Chattanooga once every four years.
I am from Chattanooga and having a UT football game here would be a horrendous idea. As stated the stadium is just too small. Maybe basketball but not football. I'm just fine driving up to Knoxville for those games.

edit (doh I'm a moron didn't realize I was in BB forum and not FB.. ignore me. A home and home with UTC BB is not a terrible idea.

How can’t you?? How many times have you saw Alabama football go play at South Alabama? Georgia play at Mercer? Kentucky basketball play at EKU?

Sure, if UTC wants to pay us a few hundred thousand dollars to come to their stadium, why not, but as it stands there is no benefit to the university. It would be a waste of a road game on our schedule. If people are concerned about other smaller state schools not getting proper exposure, then I much prefer the idea that has been floated of a having a tournament in the early season once every few years where Tennessee, MTSU, Vandy, Memphis, UTC, etc. all play in Nashville in round-robin fashion. But Tennessee doesn't need to play at little brother.

I love the city of Chattanooga, but as has been pointed out, there's 0 benefit for UT to play a game there. Memphis or Nashville maybe, but Chattanooga is 1.5 hours away from UT. I can't imagine that's just too tough for someone to overcome if they want to see UT play in person.

Even though Chattanooga and Knoxville are part of the same university system, and an hour and a half away from each other.

🙄
Who cares about that? Tennessee is the flagship and the only program that matters. The rest are table scrap midmajors who do nothing to deserve to be at our teat

They are the only one that matters. Literally no one cares about the other state schools’ sports programs. Know your place lol

So what? Memphis, Chattanooga, austin peay, MTSU, ETSU, Vanderbilt. All are our little brothers and none deserve respect. We are the flagship and only program in the state that matters
Really, take your Orange colored glasses off and expand your existence beyond Ktown. The little brother complex that you have is not health for our program. Alot of UTC alums despise UT because of this and it does not help recruiting around the state that we need (Tennessee kids that play for their home state) or as for our flagship program that Vandy has own for the past 4 years hopefully that is about to change this weekend. As for you including Memphis and Vandy in the discussion (hated by most of the state, I being a number 1 hater), they are outside of the UT system and are not relative to this post. A strong UT state program help the state and UTK. PS UTC held their own as a little brother tonight. Lose the attitude and support the UT system.
