At this point we aren't getting a good coach this year. Nobody wants to come work for a lame duck AD.

Why not...
1. Fire Currie
2. Hire Blackburn
3. Hire a 1 year interim (like Ole Miss did)
4. Let a competent Blackburn hire a good coach next year.

Because we wouldn't get one decent recruit that would sign up for that.

That would be by far the biggest issue. OTOH, recruiting for this year likely screwed anyway, it usually is in a coaching change year. This would make it even worse though. And nowadays recruiting starts 1,2, even 3 years out, so it would damage our 19 and 20 classes also.

In case of emergency we could do this, but only as a last resort.

Recruiting should not be the biggest issue right now. We have the most inept administration in the country and we will never recover fully until they are replaced.

Better prepare yourself for a 70+ ranked 2018 recruiting class, and a 3-9 record in 2018 if Currie were to take your advice.

Didn't OSU do a one-year interim deal with Luke Fickell?

Yes but they didn't have time to hire anyone after Tressel had to quit. It was about the only choice they had. Kind of like Luke at Ole Miss this past year when Freeze was fire about a month before the season started.

True. Long term health of the program is more important than getting a good recruiting class this year.

Right, because we're getting a ton of great recruits doing what we're currently doing. (sarcasm btw)

This recruiting class is already over, not much can be done to save it drastically this late.

Because everything you said sounds reasonable and by god, we are just not going to do that at the UT AD.

It won't be that bad. Besides, Butch's good recruiting classes got us a 4-8 record this year. A good coach is more important. Recall what Franklin did at Vandy with far less talent.

What difference does it make who the AD is? The AD is just the Haslam's puppet. Jimmy Haslam is essentially calling the shots. Keep the masses ignorant and confused about what is going on and maybe you can sneak any HC wannabe in before anybody will be able to oppose it!

Sacrifices must be made.. starting with Carrie's being AD

Get our kids motivated to play balls to the wall, and our lines physically man handling the guy across from them, we will do fine.

We are at 20 now, we'd lose Martinez and Dean or sure, and probably Emerson as well, along with a few 3-stars as well; it would be that bad.

On the coaching front, we aren't keeping anyone who can get another job, and anyone of any quality isn't going to jump on board with an interim.

Yeah, it would be that bad considering we open up against West Virginia, and only have 3 cupcakes on the schedule.

I would sacrifice one recruiting class if it were for the long term benefit of the program. Much better than hiring a coach we'll be wanting to fire in 5 years.

This is feeling more and more like the desperation of finding a coach after Kiffin left us high and dry.

And looking back it's clear the best answer would have been to hire Kippy as a 1 year interim and start over again next year.

Looking more and more like a reasonable option. Especially if we get a new AD in the interim

unless it was Fulmer

sounds crazy... but there were reports Florida might consider Spurrier on a 1yr deal just to get things back on track
