I'm not taking anything away from General Neyland, He grew UT into national prominence, but Phil returned UT to points only Neyland had reach with the university before.

Everyone is hung up on them starting Crompton (may have been Clawson's decision), but who really cares at this point. We have atleast 2 crappy quarterbacks or atleast undeveloped quarterbacks. Looking forward to seeing Coleman in the game, in my opinion should have given him a chance 3 weeks ago too. Fulmer may not always make the smartest coaching decisions, but hating on him personally is just uncalled for really. roughly 2 weeks from now he won't be there, soon you'll have a new coach whom you can criticize.

P.S. Vol423 This is a message board not english class, shut up about stupid spelling errors.

I was under the impression that Gen Neyland put UT football on the national map.

he did....well before most VN poster were twinkles in their parent's eyes and for some before their parents were making yellow. The only comparison is they both coached the VOLS to a NC.

Guys the hating on Phil Fulmer just flat out needs to stop. He has less than two weeks left as the headcoach of the team. Everyone that hated Phil got there way and he isn't going to be coach. Why do you guys seem so obsessed with making fun of, poking fun at, and just saying rude remarks about Fulmer?

Do you all really have that dull of a life that you must make fun of someone?

Its sickening to come onto this board looking for interesting posts on legitimate things just to see someone making another Phil joke or criticizing another aspect of Fulmer. Phil sure wouldn't be talking about all of your lives after you were just fired from your job. Show some respect to the guy.

Great post! :clapping: I agree 100%

Good post, that'll certainly stop people from posting things against Phil and make all the ones who have feel guilty and probably write letters of apology to the Fulmer family.

Phil has completely run a great program into the low point in it's history. Wyoming...as an above poster said freaking Wyoming, and then says he's going to start Crompton is like spitting in the eyes of fans. I have never attacked Fulmer personally as I think it is beneath me but I have attacked his coaching decisions. That's part of what this forum is for but I think a lot of it as far as the personal attacks go is thousands of fans venting their anger and just FYI this is an internet message board so for a lot of people cordiality goes out the window...since you're obviously new....get used to it.

low point in history...forgot 1977-1978 did you????
4-7 and 5-5-1! that was the low point. Majors did okay after that and then CPF made the program important again. He lost the team, did not make his coaches better (name one ..other than Cutt) to coach anywhere else, and was too loyal to his coaches ...ie..friends.

He did a great job for UT!

I have a bad feeling that we will wish old Phil back before it gets any better. He took UT football where it hadnt been since the General.

He did lead us to the promise land, but its been 10 years and its lost its flavor. No way I would ever want phil back after crompton starts this saturday.

I pay my Hall tax and contribute to UT. I ought to be able to criticize my employees when I want, especially when I gave specific instructions on numerous occasions not to play Crompton. He's lucky I haven't fired him sooner!

No, Fulmer took the program where it hasn't been since Johnny Majors first four years. That is, to the bottom of the SEC with the possibly worst (needs only one loss to tie and two to own the record) four year record for losses in modern history. That is the Fulmer legacy.

I am in total agreement. The piling on and bullying really disappoints me. Same in the comments sections on the KNS. I thought our fans were a little better, but I guess I was naive.

As someone else pointed out, you will be bashed for saying this, and I will be flamed for taking your side. But I think there are more of us than people realize.

Be thrilled CPF is gone. Hold fast to your opinion it should have happened a long time ago. Just show some class while he is on his way out the door.

Coach Fulmer gave Tennessee all his best. A man does not go to work telling himself I want to fail today. Phillip Fulmer gave his all for Tennessee from citizen growing up in Tennessee, from player, to assistant coach, to Head Coach. Coach Fulmers’ record is a record that will be chased, admired, and forgotten. Regardless of what the mean thinks one cannot ever forget his winning percentile, ONE OF the Winn ingest head coaches in the land. I would say the same for any other coach making his exit with a resume that will be VERY hard to meet or surpass. It is easy to get caught up in all that’s going on, especially now. A wide receiver makes a catch and scores in the last seconds of the game, all of a sudden he is the best out there. That is not fair to other receivers that has worked their butts off but I guess its true being in the right place at the right time will get you everywhere, but have a loosing season, and you are the worst, you must be replaced no matter your winning record Tennessee fought and hung in there with the best teams in the land (THE SEC) yea, we did not always win but we did not always lose either...Coach Fulmer will be replaced and probably with a mistake but that is yet to be seen and if the AD hires a mistake we will be right back where we started in 3 years if that. I bleed orange as does any other NCAA fan their colors. This man, coach, father, and always a Tennessee fan should be honored...he gave is all to Tennessee, very few of you can say the same. I hope you will, at least give him the respect he deserves, if not commanded. How would you feel if it were you, you gave your all, built a great resume, had a bad year, get kicked to the curb, just think about it. IT’S UP TO YOU BUT I THINK PEOPLE SHOULD CUT HIM SOME SLACK.

He should probably stop doing commercials for 1st Tennessee if you're right.

Your "bad feeling" is not shared by me, nor, I wager, the majority of VN. Yes, he took UT football where it hadn't been before. Phil Fulmer owns the distinction of taking UT football to it's highest, and lowest points in the modern history of the program. In the end, he is deservedly a CFHOF coach. And also in the end, he is, deservedly, no longer the head football coach.

Had Phil worked under the General, he would have been gone three years ago, at the latest.

Let sleeping dogs lie.

Go Vols.

That happens to many of us poor slobs every day. And a lot of them didn't have a bad year, just innocent victims of a bad economy. And I would dare say most made a lot less than $2.5 million, much less a $6 million golden parachute. So save the crocodile tears.................
for some actual victims.

This thing is more about what has he done to this program. You Fulmerites evidently would be content to be 5-7 or worse and have your traditional toilet bowls. But hark there are things like BCS and even SEC Champ or heaven forbid the Nat Champ. But i guess we have slipped so far you folks don't care well i have news for you people do care and they want us to be better and hopefully Lane Kiffin if he is the choice will restore this program to where it should be disciplined and competing on the national level again

I agree that this bashing of Fulmer should stop. I hope he goes on and gets a coaching position and makes TN regret letting him go. Shame on the ones who keep bashing him!!!!
