Honestly it kinda has me stumped a coach who was suppose to come to a program and take it to the next level has a worse win-loss record than Kentucky in the same time period, has had a top ten recruiting class every year he has been there. The big thing is the fact this was suppose to be a stepping stone to the next level from Holtz yet he hasnt even hit the 9 win mark for a season as Holtz did.If Kiffin was 28-22 after four years here, well he wouldnt have even seen his fourth year. So it begs the question what exactly is the problem with Spurrier in Columbia and i think its one of three things..

1.Spurrier is just a fraud and basically got lucky with his run at Duke and UF.

2. The Redskins stint ruined his mojo so to speak

3. Dosent matter who the coach is because the Gamecocks are the prime definition of a forever destined mediocre football program.

im putting my money on door number 3...

So bascially why is Spurrier not on the hot seat? Beggars can't be choosy.

Why?

Because the fact that he's won 28 games in 4 years marks the winningest 4 year period in Gamecock football history. Because it's damn near impossible to put a good team on the field there, having to cope with Tennessee, Vandy(last 2 years), Florida, Kentucky, and Georgia being in the same division every year. If SC wants to get good at football, they need to focus on not being the 2nd best CFB team in the state of South Carolina, and getting constantly outrecruited in-state by Clemson.

Bottom line, South Carolina is a damn tough place to put a competitive football team together, and Spurrier has done the best he can at it.

In order to be on the "hot seat," you need to be falling short of expectations, and your employer needs to believe it can attract someone better than you to do the job.

Neither of those criteria describe Spurrier at South Carolina.

He's been pulling in good recruiting classes every year, but that fact has not been reflected by the product on the field.

may have something to do with pulling in the #15 class in the country puts you in the middle of the pack in the conf. Doesn't help when 3-4 teams in your 6 team division are getting better players.

SC fans are ok with 7-9 wins and an occasional win over a good team. They're just not that upset with average

Do the research before you try to make an argument.
2005-23rd
2006-24th
2007-6th
2008-22nd
2009-12th
So with the exception of 2007 and 2009 we have pulled in classes in the bottom half of the SEC.

The talent level is getting better but I will admit that another 7-5 season WILL put Spurrier on the hot seat or make him retire. His new coaching staff is another reason why he's not on the hot seat. We got rid of our O-line coach finally, who many people think was one of the main sources of our problems and replaced him with a young, proven guy. We also got rid of our QB coach (again, another big problem with the team the past 4 years) and replaced him with a true specialist.

So there is reason to be hopeful still, but I won't be sold on the new changes until the first couple games. Just like UT fans should be.

I thought Spurrier was coming back for '09?

B/c just the fact that they have him makes gamecocks happy...to them 3rd in division is like winning a super bowl

He's probably next to go though...i think there is some frustration on his part that they aren't getting astoundingly better as quickly as he thought they would, but beating us seems to quiet any qwell temporarily...

He'd need to have some really bad seasons for them to force him out, but I could see him hanging it up out of frustration or something in the next few years too
