Why is tx, ca, fl better recruiting states?

Knoxville and East Tennessee just won 5 of the 6 state titles. There are about 3 or so D1 commits from those teams. Numbers are just not there to build and sustain an SEC team.

Jackson County is a little 2A team up in the plateau with only 30 players on a good week. We've got 1 D1 commit going to APSU. One D1 for TTU that wouldn't do his school work so now he's D3, and Illinois is recruiting one of our Jr's. I would think there are more D1 prospects around Knoxville than that.

California & Texas lead as far at total numbers, however Louisiana natives lead the nation in NFL players per capita.
I believe that Mississippi is 2nd

Weather also plays a huge part. An elite athlete is going to be elite in almost any sport he focuses on. Guys up north are going to play hockey and basketball during winter. Guys in FL, and large parts of TX and CA can play football year round.

Coaches see talent at a young age now and advise parents their kid should focus on one sport year round. If it’s cold outside 6 months out of the year then a lot of those kids are going to be playing basketball all year. Throw in you need a lot of space for multiple football fields (NYC has a ton of people but not much football talent)

First, I would qualify that HS football "up north" being subpar is referring to the northeast minus New Jersey for reason. The midwest is more in line with the rest of the south and west. Some of the elite of the elite from the north head to FL to play HS football at places like IMG Acadamy.

Why isn't tn a fertile recruiting ground?

I can think of Millions and Millions of reasons....people.
Coaching and a huge commitment from High School Administrations to the Sport. Look at some of the High School Stadiums in Texas.

Population and culture are the main reasons. If football is a religion in the south, Texans are the fundamental extremists. California, by virtue of it's population, has a huge talent pool. Florida is similar to California with the kind of zeal you find in Texas. Georgia is another state with an abundance of talent for similar reasons.

The state of Tennessee is getting better with the Nashville growth.

TN is rich if you are recruiting Memphis and Nashville, to include th 'Boro. Knoxville lags for some reason, but there is good footballin and around Knoxville. Middle TN between Knoxville and Nashville is mostly in the Plateau regions. We have good football, but we are largely sparsely populated, with small teams that play both ways. It's not uncommon for all but a select few (Cookeville HS and White county mainly to only have 18-30 players total). Our guys are tough. They play the whole game offense and defense. The QB might also be a LB or a safety. The line just swaps sides on the ball. Receivers are also your DB's. This plateau is a large geographic area of middle and East TN and when we come down to the playoffs into Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Knoxville, we just can't keep pace. It's rare to make it past the first round. Cookeville only made 2nd round. Money is another obstacle in rural Tennesse talent. In baseball as well as football. The schools don't have the budget so we have to contribute as parents. I have to pay $50 for football for walk through outfits. $100 for baseball. Cookeville baseball players have to pay $750 each after they make the team. If we lived 2 miles over into Putnam County, my kids baseball would be over. I can't pay that. Alot of others can't You lose players that don't have the money to play in small areas.

Georgia is an anomoly in the HS talent pool. It is sparsely populated in rural GA which is most of the state. Atlanta, Savannah, Valdosta is about it. But, there is immense talent available anywhere you go in the state. Just Southern culture and their ticket out. I'd say about 80% of GA only has HS football for entertainment 3 months out of the year and they get the most out of it.

Not just population, but population density. If I have a school of 400, it is easier to make the team than a school of 800. More competition for fewer spots means better talent that has proven itself against better talent.

Remember that 5 out of the 6 state champions in public schools came from East Tennessee.

True, but that might not translate to East TN having better players. I think it would make sense to see where the top recruits are coming from, and the majority are probably not from East TN.

For 2017 it looks like 2 of the top 20 were East TN, and in 3 in 2018
