(i'm not saying that you're in any way out of line with the quoted post. I'm just saying that i've spent enough energy in discussion that was interpreted as 'taking shots', and i'd rather build on our shared beliefs than rehash our apparent differences. You will answer to god for yourself, and i'll answer for myself. I'm comfortable with both sides of that.)
My kids go (one went to and one goes) to a c of C school. Great people but not many ask my opinion on scripture anymore. I like to quote Old Testament, really freaks them out

The issue you are referencing through these texts is God's immutability, which i think we would all affirm. But, your claim is actually a non sequitur.
Just because God deals with man differently at different times does not mean God has changed, or changed His mind.
Example.
Genesis 2:16 Only eat from the garden
Genesis 9:3 Every living thing given to eat.
Leviticus 11 Dietary restrictions placed on Israel
Col. 2:16, 1 Tim. 4:3, Heb. 9:10, Rom 14:3,17
Restrictions now ended, and a matter of personal conscience.
CWV, I'm not trying to be curt or rude, but I've already answered the method I used to make this specific determination. The answer was in the statement, as a matter of fact. And again, this isn't meant meant to be sarcastic, but if you are truly interested, I'll link several books for you on proper hermeneutics. It's a subject bigger than I'm willing to invest on an anonymous internet forum.
As to the views of women in the Bible, I'm not trying to justify anything. I've simply responded to two quotes from the Bible, explained my understanding of what the author said, gave the scriptural reasoning that author referenced as to why he/I believe that, and was mocked, insulted, and told that I hadn't given a reason.
But again, I'm not trying to justify it. You guys seem to have it backwards. God is my defender; I'm not His.
ETA:
I never used the "it was just the time..." argument. Just the opposite, actually.
Specifically to the "silent in church..." question, I said that I don't believe it was to be interpreted as a 'you'd better not utter a word once we enter that service' kind of thing because of Paul's words elsewhere where women were talking and publicly serving in the church.
Specific to the authority part, I pointed out that Paul gave a theological/scriptural reasoning behind it, which would make it expressly not a 'for the time' issue, but instead a 'God's plan' issue, which I stated very blatantly.
That's one reason that I'm at such a loss with GV. He/She has repeatedly asked me to defend things that I didn't say, selectively quoted me, and then kept telling me to answer things that I've already answered. He/she may not like the answers. He/she may think those answers make me a misogynist. That's fine. But to repeatedly ask for answers that have been given is a bit dense and tiring.
And, considering my description of my wife and my marriage, which I see as Biblical and mutually loving/respectful, I can't see how I can be seen as misogynistic. But that's cool. Like I said... God is my defender. I'm not His.
:hi:
c of C believes in tiers of heaven don't they? I just don't understand that, heaven is heaven.
I love the way people keep bringing up islam like atheists support islam or consider it a better religion. I've yet to see a religion that wasn't backwards.

THIS might be the understatement of the year so far.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that all religions are "backwards," although I agree with you that none are founded in any evidence or apparent truth. The Abrahamic Trio, however, is the biggest kicker for "backwardsness." In making the world a strict absolutist narrative (probably the result of a strong monotheism), those three sent us in a direction from which I'm not sure we'll ever come back. Those three, in particular, make people do incredibly irrational and violent things. Throw in the brilliance of the promise of eternal life, particularly in Christianity and Islam, and you have a recipe for large numbers of devotees willing to do lots of crazy things, all based upon no evidence whatsoever.
There's plenty of "crazy" in other faiths, but the Abrahamic Trio cornered the market a long time ago. People, in much larger numbers, are willing to do things for those three that they just aren't for other religions.
Seriously? Every time we post something from the bible you (as in all Christians in this thread) cry that it's taken out of context and how you have to consider the times, and how God had to accept somethings due to the times.
Idk of anything that the bible is clear on.

It's not a gotcha game, it's a simple fact. The majority of the bibles stances are vague at best. It is not black and white as you claimed.
If the bible was clear on all of its stances, you wouldn't have the countless different denominations that you have.
1 Cor 2:14
But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
