Why is nobody talking much about Dobbs?

He absolutely blew that game today. There were many, many, many examples of when he made the wrong read, either with the throw or whether to pull the ball and run.

The guy has played some great games for us, but he absolutely laid an egg today. Maybe he felt footsteps, maybe he just had an off day, but he was absolutely terrible. And don't give me the **** about not having time to throw. He had time many times and still made the wrong read or held the damn ball too long when someone was open.

There could be plenty of negatives to be said about JDs...chiefly he is a terrible intermediate passer. No intermediate passing means no running game.

Have you noticed what he does well though? He is a brilliant open field runner

I think the broader question is why are we asking JDs to run a layered west coast passing tree ? It is very complex and require quick decisions and accuracy.

Why are we not running a zone read with play action off the zone runs with JD running 20 times a game ( Oregon)

Or come to think of it , why are we not running a power I . We have a 240 lb back , a tight end , and a very fast back that can catch passes. With the short comings at O line , the extra blocking takes pressure off the run and pass , opens up play action and the option game , and boot legs

Seems to me that we have talent , talent at QB. We just don't have them in a scheme that accentuates their talents.

Nothing wrong with Dobbs. He did what he was told to do. Dont run and throw it as quickly as possible. Notice he avoided running the read option aginst Appy and Ohio until it was necessary. This was also a save Dobbs measure. We can win the east without beating Bama but we won't win it without Dobbs. By the second quarter anyone could see our chance of wining with the injuries was very low. Why risk Dobbs running or passing. How do you reduce the number of plays in the game? Run the ball and take your time between plays. Debord did what he was told. Notice we didn't run any trick plays to change momentum. Saved them for Atl.

I was in the "WTF are you doing Dobbs" crowd until I read Ruckers article yesterday and it makes perfect sense. With all the injuries, 7 games in a row, is it really necessary for Dobbs to take those hits when he makes the read to keep the ball? Several games coming up, he's going to have too. It's almost like the coaching staff and game plan was to sacrifice the game, given all the circumstances. Sounds so dumb when your ranked 9th in the country, hosting your most hated rival, who happens to be number 1, but there's no logical explanation. The play calling was a complete mess and it didn't seem like Tennessee had a clear game plan executing the offense.

Still, you can't make an excuse for his inability to not checkdown his receievers. It's been said so many times he's struggled with this and att this point, I don't see it improving. It is what it is.

It was an ugly game and dobbs happens to be a visible, easy target for us. He made some bad plays and was overall lackluster, but the glaring issue here is our Oline. The line improves and dobbs can be more effective.

You can chalk that loss up to 2 main reasons: Genetics and weight room.

Alabama was bigger and stronger and physically dominated the Vols on both sides of the ball. Barnett is the only UT player who would start for Alabama and there are only 1 or 2 others who would even be in the 2 deep. Bama wins every time in this match up but UT at full speed would give them a much better game.

never seen a game where one team loses by 39 and anyone on the losing team blew the game. Sounds like the loser never had a chance to win
