OU's run game? Or lack of it against Akron. 100 yards total rushing and 3ypc.
They were lackluster against Akron and they have a handful of games started amongst their oline. This is not dismissing they have 2 excellent backs. The fact they do and still got them involved so little adds to the question.

bc the media only wants to point out our secondary play last saturday. But OUs run game, OL and secondary is also terrible.

Just like everyone was quick to blame our D's performance by saying we played very "vanilla"...I would probably say the same about OU vs. Akron.

You can pretty much throw those 1st games out the window because neither team had to turn to page 2 in the playbooks.

If they truly are that bad against the run that almost neutralizes our massive lack of depth at DT

i agree except there is no denying they have serious OL issues also this yr at OU.

Their OL had 28 combined starts against Akron. Three of their starters were making their first ever start in that game.

I think no one was quick to dismiss our secondary but played up BGSU's offense. Is Akron's run stopping that touted?

I'm just saying when you run base plays without any wrinkles thrown in you can't look too deeply into the performance.

I'm sure both UT and OU will look completely different this week.

The difference is, being Vanilla on defense makes you vulnerable against good offensive teams. Plus our DBs coach wasn't there...
Akron's D is awful. Even if OU was vanilla, and they were, you need more than 100 yards on 33 carries. That's bad against Akron even if they know what is coming on every play.

Perine had 1700+ rushing yards last year, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt over 1 season opener against a blah opponent.

plays in an air raid scheme now with a bad OL. Completely diff than last yr and it matters. Its also fun to play Kansas, Iowa State, and Texas Tech.

According to every OU fan it doesn't matter because Akron sold out to the run and didn't even attempt to defend the pass. Also they have 2 OSU transfers on their Dline and two great DTs. Some even claim Akrons Dline is better than ours.

Not with Riley as OC.

11 Carries for 33 yards... against Akron.

Their O-Line sucks. They were #117 in the country last year in pass defense.

It's time to win, for God's sake.

i tried in another thread, that i think you started, but everyone believes they're just going to throw it and not even attempt to have a running game.

Regardless of last week's performances, I will be wary of OUs running backs until the final whistle blows.

Im more concerned about their RBs out of the backfield on passes than running it down Tennessee's throat. the Vol LBs were horrible in coverage last weekend.

Yes Akrons front four is the strength of their team.
They have two four star Ohio state transfers (Disciplinary problems), an Iowa st transfer who had two of his best games against Baylor and TCU, and a junior who won Akron's award for best sophomore.

Would be like them saying "why isn't anyone talking about this Barnett guy that was amazing last year but couldn't even get a tackle in the game. His own coaches even called him out, said he didn't put forth any effort"
Guys like Perine and Barnett have proven themselves at this level. They will make big plays, just have to try and limit the # of plays they make.

They don't have to run it very successfully if they can drop bombs on us all game... I'm sad.

I don't get why people think just because Akrons from a G5 school doesn't mean they have a very, very stout defensive line. I mean of all people, vol fans should understand that G5 teams can compete at a very high level. I mean look at bowling green state's passing game or Akrons front four. If you actually take an in-depth look you will find both of those units have NFL caliber guys. Sure other parts of the team may lack a complete package(BGSU defense, and Akrons offense), but that doesnt mean they will lie down or they are easy opponents. Akron for example was listed as the nations second most improved team, and bowling green state had numbers comparable to Baylor amd TCU last year.

You lost all credibility at "Akrons D is awful" why don't you do some research on the defensive starters for akron vs BG?

I'm concerned with the following:
Our DB's getting beat
North not getting any looks
Medley kicking a field goal into the opposing teams tunnel instead of the uprights

I may get roasted for this but I think Maggitt needs to stay at DE. Not that he isn't a good LB but I think he can wreak havoc there and we have the talent at OLB to back him up.

I think we will punish OU's defense. Our offense is definitely worthy of being in the top 25, defense still unproven. It might be a shootout.
