Why is Lane not getting more touches?

Let me start this off by saying that I have nothing against Neal and I actually think he is doing a pretty good job this year. He is completely night and day from last year IMO. He is 4th in the SEC right now in rushing yards, but one thing I can't understand is why Lane is not getting more touches. Neal has 80 rushing attempts this year to only 27 by Lane. Neal is averaging 4.5 ypc and Lane is averaging 5.7 ypc. I just wonder why he is not getting more carries? Any thoughts?

The only thing I can't think is that he's not doing work in practice. I have no idea why else, because he hits the hole and is shifty in open space.

Lane is more fumble prone, and I don't think the coaches wat to take a chance with him. However I am suprised Lane didn't get more chances ager the Neal fumble, but I guess the coaching staff want to prove Neal is their guy.

Lane is not more fumble prone. The kid had one fumble, and everyone acts like he coughs it up all the time. It has to be practice or something like that. I bet we see him as the #2 back the rest of the way.

Chaney has not gotten enough sense to recognize the above rushing statistic. Kinda simple to explain. Chaney is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I could see that but Lane only got ONE carry against UF.

Could be Neal is better at pass protection. Don't want defenses know what your play is based on which rb is in.

He will start to. I think Neal and Lane will be a back and forth, Neal will still get it more than Lane of course though. Young, don't see him getting any more touches hardly at all, and maybe Watson a one or 2 a game, just maybe.

I thought after Neal's fumble, we would see Lane get some action. Coaches stuck with Neal and Lane had a big gain on screen play later in game. I want to see more on Lane!!!

It was in fact Neal that was fumble prone last year, they have worked with him and he is much improved. But Lane Fumbles and we don't see him again for a while. Neal Fumbles and he is right back out there. some of the things that drive me crazy about Dooley. Lane is better than Neal just does not have that homerun (speed) threat. But I think Lane is quicker than Neal. He deserves more playing time.

I want to get this season going right, we can win all games except maybe AL, and we cal lose all of them. we will see how good of a motorvator dooley is. but if it tanks he has no one to blame but himself.

I think most of Lane's carries have come later in the game. Maybe that means something, maybe not. I do think they are looking at rush success rates in a way that doesn't always show up in generic statistics. We obviously still have issues in our running game and it's unlikely they will be solved this year. Incremental improvement is I guess the best we can hope for the rest of the season.

Also I think Q is getting carries because if we lose Neal or Lane we'll need someone else to step in and what few carries DY has had so far apparently haven't been that impressive. I like Justin King and I wonder how come we don't try him more in short yardage situations. He seems tougher than the other guys and I think that's what we need and why AJ is called on sometimes.

Our stable of running backs are mostly mares and in the SEC we need studs.

The reason Lane is averaging more yards per carry is 1. he has a lot less carries and 2. one of his big runs was against NC State where there was a hole so big you could drive a truck through it and he still got ran down at the 5. Neal would have scored on that play.

Lane is quite a bit slower and less explosive than Neal, and Lane seems to dance around more behind the LOS.

Umm okay....what is Neal's longest rush on the year so far?
