Why is it so gloom and doom around here lately?

Butch Jones is gone, D4H isn't posting much, New coaching staff that has the resume to make Tennessee elite, players getting drafted/making deals, the football field is look'n good, someone is bound to make a hype video with copper head road in the background ( if they haven't all ready ) and I could go on.

Sure next year is what it is, but it should be an improvement either way, some of you are so snarky and negative lately about anything or view...

But we know D4H will be back soon enough with even more pompous claims and projections. Reading that horsecrap would have made Shirley Temple snarky.

And copper head road videos are getting old. As to coaches, I will wait for the elite resumes to result in wins before I buy orange pants or checkerboard overalls. And black shoes.

I'll tell you this I am not negative at all. Pruitt has more then 14 fresh bodies coming in to include a few JUCO transfers and Grad transfers that will add depth immediately, plus he specifically recruited almost all the guys coming in the summer. Which means he doesn't need a trial period to see where they will best fit in he already knows where he wants to put them.

I am excited to see what product we come up with by fall especially after our injured players are healthy and back practicing.

I honestly think this team is being under estimated and I think Pruitt and his staff are being underestimated.

I will say this if there is one thing Pruitt will do it is start those players that he knows will get the job done. No matter who they are or what their college status is (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior). Pruitt just wants to win and I think with all the incoming personnel he has a chance to put together a really good team who will compete in the SEC.

You can only hope as a fan this is what Pruitt offers so I will wait back and hopefully watch it unfold.

I'm just hoping to win the games we typically should win and have one surprise victory, and pick your team for that one. Yessss, that would be a huge improvement

There is always some type of doom and gloom in here somewhere OP. It's just how some posters are, gotta spread it around. No biggie, makes for some interesting conversations.
I lean towards the positive side more but can agree with the wait and see crowd. I'm just not gonna complain about everything the coaches say or do while I'm waiting.

Amazed at how much faith people are putting in Pruitt simply because he’s a “straight shooter”

Doesn't take much to Amaze you.

I get the general feeling most are just excited about everything, including but not "simply because" he's a straight shooter.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast; Man never is, but always to be blessed: The soul, uneasy and confined from home, Rests and expatiates in a life to come. Or as some have said on VolNation..."We Gonna Whip they Ase!"

The positive: I have no doubt we are heading the right direction and truly feel for the first time we have a coach that can get us back to winning.

The negative: It ain't happening quickly. Too many deficiencies. Too many desertions. It is tough to know that we are going to have to take a beating for at least another year. I do think I will be able to find joy in just watching the improvement process and ignoring the scoreboard though.

We're a sleeping giant. Problem is, we've been more like Rip Van Winkle than taking an afternoon nap. We'll come on like a freight train once we get some momentum going, but need to see improvement this year, for sure, in order to start the build.

And about 12 to 15 super true Vol Fan posters who latch onto any criticism of anything Pruitt does as a jihad against him which drives everyone into their respective corners.

Rightly so, I think most people taking a wait and see with Pruitt. Liking what he is doing and what seems to be getting back to basics of sound, tough, fundamental ball, but not going out on limb, declaring him an instant winner...problem is, there are many in SEC which are already where we desire to be for "worst case acceptability", and it's not going to be an easy climb.

I might also add that even though I am on record here saying I believe Pruitt will get us to where we need to go and was definitely the best coach available after the Schiano fiasco there is no reason for any of us to have blind faith in any coach after 3 disasters in a row. It is easy to forgive the jaded.

The last decade brings us down quite a bit. Unfortunately, most TN fans live in a bubble. They only watch the Vols and whoever the Vols are playing that day. They don’t see the level that other SEC powerhouses are operating at in this era. They think “coaching them up” eliminates talent gaps. You saw it with Butch when we went to Oregon. Many here thought we’d “go up air an punch em in the mouff” and get a win not understanding our position vs Oregon at the time.

Hopes and cliches are fun but they don’t win games in this era.

which type are you ?

You didn't ask me, but I'm in the corner of those that have faith in Pruitt, not because of his success as a defensive coordinator with multiple championship rings, that gets overplayed, or that many of the players he coached are playing in the NFL, or because he has worked for or along side with some of the best names in football. But simply because...wait for it......he's a straight shooter.

There are a bunch in that same corner. You'd be amazed at the number of us. Bet its pushing double digits.

Agree wholeheartedly on the wait and see approach.

Probably my biggest concern for this season in particular is the defensive transition. O line would be number 2.

It's not as simple as Pruitt toughening up the players or getting "his guys" this summer for the defense. Just going back to what we saw in 2012 shows it's easy for guys to get out of position in switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

Depends on whether I have had my meds or not :crazy:

I am leaning pretty pessimistic with this experiment though.

First time head coach hired by the guy who gave us the Clawfense and couldn't land another major college position in the past 10 seasons.

Plenty of reason to think it may be a bumpy ride.

It won’t be that bad, because this staff is going to exploit and surprise some defenses this year on offense, and Georgia is just one of them. I think Pruitt is ahead of Florida and Georgia. Smart can’t beat Pruitt if our players play the way they practiced during the spring. I believe it is coming. West Virginia better watch out to, because we are coming.👌👍

Kid, You really need to stop drinking...At least I hope that is your excuse....If not then nevermind

We'll know most of what we've got in players and coaches by the end of the 3rd quarter of the first game. I know what you're probably saying, "How can you say that?". Because if you look back at the last 5 years, think about the first game and how it went. The rest of the season pretty much followed suit.

With this said, one season doesn't necessarily dictate the following. As such, each season builds on the previous (at least that's what is supposed to happen).

different captain of the ship. most of the crew is still the same. but the captain is different. somethings will change. just doubtful all of it will change in the time frame needed to see drastically different results.

to me, the biggest thing people struggle with is that while you may be on board with the direction, there is a reality that it will probably take another 2-3 years before it's back to being really competitive at the top of the league.

and we've been saying that it seems like every other year for the last 10 years.

it is what it is. and all you have to go on is how you 'feel' about the direction. that's not a lot to go on. most would just like something tangible for once.

and you won't be able to really do that for a while.
