Freaking out?

First of all let me start by saying, yes I was in Neyland last weekend and almost lost all the food and drinks that I enjoyed tailgating before the game after the awful first half performance...

BUT, it seems that last year would have taught us as fans that three games DOES NOT make a season. Yes we have played terrible but we CAN turn it around our problems are fixable.

I am going to go on record saying I really do think we will come out and play solid ball this weekend and pull out a W. This will totally reverse everyone's mindframe and after we finish 9-3 everyone will realize that this wasn't Fulmer being horrible, it really was just a green QB(and not a very intelligant one) having trouble grasping a new O.

We can still have a good year...if everyone will just stay positive!:rock2::pepper::thumbsup::clapping:

Oh yeah... Go Vols!!! Beat the war eagle/tigers/plainsmen...what the hell are they anyway???

good, disciplined, athletic, well coached,.....need we continue? I admire your spirit and drink from the same koolaide fountain at times, however I dont think the VOLS can beat Auburn.

that's all very rational and reasonable.

the problem is it just keeps happening......ANOTHER loss to Florida, Another year where we have to have help to win the SEC. throw in the fact that this team offensively has been just plain bad--turnovers, penalties, assignment issues, and just plain bone headed mistakes....it leave little to be desired.

i think if we had played florida like Auburn played LSU and lost in similar fashion, the moood might be a tad different. but the type of play we've seen thus far has been indicative of a team that finds ways to beat itself, a la the 2005 team.

so, the hope factor and positive out look is dim at best.

Of course we all remember last year, but it's a risky venture to bet on FL and GA losing 2+ SEC games a year in order for us to get to ATL.

Well I agree that the lack of SEC championships are frustrating...and I don't believe we get back to ATL this year... I just think that last year taught us that a team can change and improve throughout the season.

And I think that since the mistakes are so boneheadish and clearly fixable that bodes well that we could be very productive IF we get these mistakes fixed.

us staying positive doesn't have anything to do with the lame product we have on the field..

my point is that IF has been too large a part of this program the last 4 years. the fact that every year depends on a series of IFs, is a problem in and of itself.

as it happens, so far, this season has turned on the wrong side of the ifs. we have made the mistakes, the qb hasn't been good.....blah, blah, blah.......

logically, understand that there's a lot of football left.......but my pre season optimism has taken 3 big body blows. they are not what i expected them to be in any way shape or form.

Completley true. I as well was extremely optimistic as well coming into the season. I think this is due to the amount of smoke the TN media gives us making our new O out to be the next Patriots 07.

But when you take away your preseason notions that we were going to be world beaters and think logically it would make sence that we would struggle early on O.

Last season we would have never believed after FL that we could stop any offense the whole season...now we did have another clunker at BAMA, but overall they got it turned around....it CAN happen for this O.

This is not the same team as last year. Crompton is not Ainge and, to this point, Clawson is not Cutcliff. We also don't have the leadership of Mayo on defense. Plus you have got to know that we were lucky as all get out last year to be in the SEC championship game.

The way I see it, we basically played 3 good, complete games last year. Georgia, Arkansas, and Mississippi St. The rest we either downright stunk (Cal, Fla, Alabama) or we only showed up for half of a game (Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, etc). We really did attrition ourselves into SEC title game.

Well these are good points....well hopefully Auburn can be one of our three complete games this year! haha!

But it's not just the offense. Defense has been lacking on many levels for some time now. We have no push up front and can't seem to get the DT's recruited to get the job done. With the new coaches and their success the recruiting will only get harder.

We have seen Fulmer get out coached quite often with comparable and superior talent, just imagine what it will be like with much less talent.

mine were a bit more humble than that, my exact words:
"so long as the quarter back doesn't suck out loud, this offense will be fine"

at the time, i didn't think this to be too much to ask, and that didn't necessarily mean that i thought this offense would be the second coming of the Patriots as you put it, i just figured with a veteran oline and a stable of running backs, and experience at WR, as long as crompton wasn't just awful, the offense would be ok.

this is one of those IFS that went the wrong way for me.

Co-signed.

We have a "second." All in favor?

I

*********

The problem is that we have seen NOTHING through 3 games to suggest that will even be able to compete with (much less beat) any of the top talent in the SEC.

I think a dose of reality is in order for some delusional fans around here. It has finally set in for the majority.

Yeah and I don't understand why. Did you know that there are more DT's in the NFL right now from Tennessee than an any other one university?? You'd think that would be one heck of a bargaining chip when trying to recruit DT's to UT.

We have GOT to recruit some more 'beef' on that defensive line! Have you seen that guy at Alabama named Terrence Cody? That guy is a freakin' man-beast!

The bottom line is that if you are Tennessee and you can't be competitive with florida, then the coaching and program are lame. We HAVE to be competitive with and beat florida--THAT is the standard. And not only do we not do that, Fatimus Phil gets his big hiney handed to him by florida every year with another humiliating loss caused more by UT's incompetence and ineptitude than anything the gators do. That's the big issue here.
