why is everyone looking past Dormady 2017?

I think QD is the starter to begin the season with JG as backup. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see the competition extend into the season and both get some playing time through the first few games.

JG looks like the real deal on film. But, QD has a significant head start in SEC football, it a coaches son, & highly recruited player himself.

I, for one, think that this is going to be the best competition since maybe Shaeffer, Ainge, Leak back from 2004. Plus S. Jones, who is also a 4* QB will be making his case for real as well.

Fans are gonna fan. So stap yourself in for the boasting, opinion, and innuendo that will e on full display on VN. This is gonna be interesting and fun. Barring the adolescent noise on here of course.

We won that one, didn't we? It was an away game, as I recall....

Yeah, could have been closer if the other guys' head coach had let Rommel be more mobile like he wanted. Good OCs need to call the plays; good for us he didn't get to that time.

JG is faster than Dobbs is what I have been told.

JG is probably the most physically gifted QB to enter college since Cam Newton. Physically he's a clone of Colin Kaepernick. 6'4" 200+ lbs. Rocket arm. And 4.5 speed.

We'll see if he has the intangibles. But in terms of physical gifts he's about as good as it gets.

If the OL repeats its past performances then it's gonna default to a more mobile QB. I think history has shown that where Dobbs has bailed us and the OL out numerous times. Another bad year and it'll be 5 years of an under achieving OL.

My preference is a QB that can read a defense and be accurate enough to throw receivers open. We have not had that in several years. Having a good OL will go a long way to helping that.

QD is a talented pro style QB. Since we have hot garbage for our OL, he is going to take a pounding. JG stands a slightly better chance of survival.

who knows. At this rate, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer might start.

Where do you get your information?

Yeah lets not put any kind of expectations on anyone. Dude thats not even remotely fair to JG.

Our O-Line gets everybody back except Wiseman, they need to hit the weight room hard if they really want it. We should be better upfront, we need a new coach on the O-Line we have to do better there no excuses. GBO!!!!

Dormady is Worley all over need a Qb to move, and not just have an arm.

And you think every white Vol QB is a Worley clone? Bless your heart.

Quite the stretch you've made there, *as usual*. Where did I mention race? I'm going off of what little I've seen out of Dormady. I also haven't said JG is the future because I haven't seen anything from him. I just do not feel Dormady is the right fit for this offense.

*EDIT*

Only similarity between the two. So it's not a stretch. Try harder.

Not looking past Dormady at all.

But if the line doesn't improve or stay healthy next year, the deciding factor in the QB competition could be who can consistently make plays while running for his life. And from what we have seen of Dormady so far, he isn't Usain Bolt.

Cloning QBs works better? :)

Maybe, by some off chance, I'm watching different highlight film of him than you are? But what I see is a pro-style QB who can put the ball anywhere on the field either on a rope or lobbed. He's incredibly accurate with great pass protection but at no time have I seen him so much as scramble out of pressure, let alone call a read option QB keeper. His 40 time is supposedly 4.7ish which is good but certainly doesn't make him a dual threat. There is my case. Worley 2.0. Better, hence the 2.0, but he's another round peg Debord is going to ram into his square hole. If you've got some different film you can share links to in order to change my opinion, please do. All pissing and moaning aside, were both Vols fans and I'd love to see differently out of what will likely be our starting QB next season. But don't throw the race card on me when that is not the case. I can't stand that ****. Don't put that hurt on me Ricky Bobby .

Go ahead and share that vault of film you have and I'll see if I can meet the task. (From the small sample of playing time he's actually had at Tennessee, I managed to witness him scramble AND complete a pass while looking downfield...more than once, actually. Tennessee Tech game if you need to check which reel.) Til then I'll assume you're talking out of your azz. :wink2: If you simply say that you think JG is better...physically and skillset wise...no quarrel. But you emphatically state he's a slightly better version of a QB who was game but average during his playing career...and just trust you? As I said...only similarity is their pigmentation...and I've watched the HUDL film available, he's white. :)

This isn't an offense where it's needed for the QB to run a lot to be effective. We've adapted the offense to Josh, as a running QB. 3-4 carries a game are all that's needed , just to keep the defense honest.

QD can't run a lick. The other 2 QB's on scholarship can run. Tennessee runs a system that requires a running QB. Therefore, QD won't be the starter. One of the other 2 guys are the best option for next season.

How often have you seen him play to make that judgement? He escaped the pocket pretty good the little bit of time WE all have gotten to see him play.

My opinion is that QD is talented, but fits a pro-style system. JG fits Butch's spread offense and is a natural fit. QD just doesn't have the same skill set as JG to be a runner that Butch's system needs to succeed.

Careful, you are going to summon the posters that say you don't need a running qb to run this offense.
