would you rather blitz and get burned or lay back and maybe give up a first down?I like blitzing but I would think personnel dictates what you do.

they ruled his progress stopped and the play was dead. what a joke of a call.

not to argue but, we havent exactly been great at third and kiffin or third and wilcox.:hi:

I think you have to take in consideration the talent each had to use, or lack thereof. There will be plenty of opportunities to make plays with Bray and our receivers as long as our O line gives Tyler time to throw, which will be even better this year. As long as our receivers can catch the other team's D is going to be on their heels. Bray's pinpoint passing and quick release will be hard to stop. Still say he's the next Peyton Manning. This year is going to be much more exciting and lots of points scored. Book it, Dano!

John Chavis is one of the worst if not the worst 3rd down coordinator on 5+ yard situations in the nation. Easily.

Do you have any statistics to defend that position? Does anyone? How about ...

A comparison to 3-4 other SEC DCs in set situations over x number of years.

A comparison of LSU since making this "disastrous" hire that is spoken @ so eloquently around here.

Or, maybe just settle for raw emotion and repeat it forever.

We've always played well against them even though they have been vastly better then us for most of those games..... If we can upset anyone I could see it being LSU
W Tennessee(5-6) vs LSU (11-2)30-27 2005
L Tennessee (9-4)@ LSU(11-2) 21-24 2006
L Tennessee(10-4)vs LSU (SECcg)(12-2)(BCS Champs) 21-14 2007
L Tennessee(6-7) @ LSU(11-2) 16-14 2010

Like I've said, we've been worse but we've def. competed and have been in position to win these games at the end....

You might also include that they played us close when we had vastly superior teams. The upset win in 2000 and both games in 2001 come to mind. This series has just been very close over the last decade or so, regardless of the quality of the teams involved.

My Chavis opinion is based on emotion, but also memories. The stats probably won't tell the whole story. I can recall many pivotal 3rd and 5+ plays that we ran that (*&(*&@#&$^@#&$_)@#* mustang package only to keep the drive alive by playing 15 yards off the receivers.

The most damning of these that I witnessed first hand include UCLA in OT, Cutler driving the length of the field to win at Neyland, and of course (this is where I bring it back to this thread) Russel also driving the length in Knoxville (there was a particular play with LSU on their 45 and our defenders were somewhere near ours) which lead to the go ahead score with seconds to play.

We won a lot of games with the Chief. But a lot of those induced the Cut... which we can probably all agree was a big player in our 90's success.

And to answer the question that started this thread, I would never write us off at home against anyone. All of our big games will have the potential for an embarrassing outcome... but I have a pretty good amount of faith that this team has the talent to keep things interesting all season long.

We have a better chance at beating them than Bama or Arkansas. Not sure we can beat either of those 3 but LSU is the one we match up best with.

Clearly this is all depending on how the season unfolds...

Will LSU have a QB this year? Can they replace Peterson, Sheppard, and Nevis?

Will Bray be as good or better than his freshman showing? Can Hunter and the Beast fill the void of Stocker, Jones, and DMo?

If I had to rank the west games for a W:

1. LSU - The games are close...Miles only likes to win by 1 point because it allows the Tiger fans a reason to hate him until he wins (which he does a lot). LSU will be very talented but I feel like they play to the talent of their opponent a lot. "Every game with Miles is a coin flip that Miles weights the heads side then calls tails" (quote courtesy of my LSU pal). They don't know what to expect and neither do we. I'd take LSU 7.5 out of 10

2. Bama - Rivalry game and the talent is down a touch this year (which doesn't say a lot). Saban will be dialed up to play Dooley and being in foreign country of Alabama won't help. The key will be our defense. IF they play great we have a chance. We lose this game 8.5 out 10 times we play IMO

3. Arky - I feel like we always play bad against them. Wilson is the question mark in their offense and he could be anywhere from average to better than Mallett. I just don't see us winning this game 9 out of 10 times.

There's a few of us around here who have some confindence in this years squad....a few.
Count me as one of them.. I see ALA.,ARK. as the two im not sure about but we should be in and have a chance in the others SC is up in the air because from week to week u never know what ur gonna get.ARK lost Mallet but his backup was just as good or better and Ala is breakin a new QB too but thats the 8th game so he should be well versed in their off by then.I've picked us to lose 2 maybe 3 games this year but wont be surprised if we only lose one..WE WILL SPANK LSU after last years game if we dont come out and punch them in the mouth early and often then we have bigger problems than we know:loco:

Honestly I can see us going anywhere from 10-2 to 7-5. If Coach Dooley is the answer, which I think he is,we should win a min of 8 this year. Our ooc schd is weak...thats better be 4 right there. Going 4-4 in the sec sure isn't where TN wants to be but under the circumstances I could live with that this year.

Our O is going to be alot of fun to watch this year. I hope and expect BIG improvement from our D. Last years performance on defense was unacceptable.

I truely feel the same way about the record. We could win anywhere from 7-10, depending on breaks and how much we have improved and how well our JUCO and younger guys are playing. I think the 2 definite losses are to Alabama and Arkansas. We have always struggled with Arky, especially there. And they are absolutely loaded on offense. Not sure we will stop them very often. We just dont match up with them very well. Then Bama we cant beat to save our lives. they are breaking in a new QB,lost Ingram and Jones but to me Richardson was the better RB. Not sure about their WR's and who knows how the young QB's perform. But their D is what will win them games, their offense just has to be average and not have the QB lose them the games. We havent beaten UF in forever, but honestly we can beat any of the East teams on a good day and should win all 4 OC games.
