With opposing players running through our band's routine, visiting bands playing over our band and other acts of disrespect--why is it allowed?

I recall a poster said once when the Vols beat Bama at their home, he tried to lead a charge to the field. A local cop thrush a night stick in his chest and remind the Vols fan he wasn't home. And that was that.

So why is nothing done when disrespect happens to us. Some suggestions are:

1. Keep the gates locked until after our players and band has exited the field.

2. Have a stout police presence on the field and the opposition explicitly advised they will be removed from the field if certain behaviors are exhibited. Is that legal? Don't know, don't care. Classlessness is too prevalent in our society these days, put a stop to this one--period!

3. Bands that act like the USCe band should be barred from coming to Neyland for two years. OR when we visit theirs, do the same thing to them. I prefer the barring for two years instead of stooping to their level. But either way, don't let it ride.

4. Have a serious talk among schools' administration about disciplinary actions for such obvious misbehavior. Whereby it is agreed players and bands will receive punishment that is actually punishment. Maybe only pep squads or cheerleaders only to the next three away games. And offending players not allowed to play for a full half. Kind of like penalty minutes in ice hockey.

5. If nothing is done, then UT fans maybe should duplicate the Gator fans' tradition and throw piss balloons at bands that over play ours.

Put a stop to this disrespect.

Yea, it's always a great idea to stoop to the level of your opponents' fanbase....may have something to do with the way we have played for the last 5 years....really doesn't deserve much respect, imo.

Correct, respect is earned on the field. The coach of one of our bitter rivals stresses respect for the team you are playing.:salute:

How about people just nut up and keep their traps shut about nonsense like this lest someone think our entire fanbase is a bunch of silly *****es?

Exactly. Bands are one of the things that makes college football different and so special. Let them have their fun. If we would have won the game the SC band would never have been mentioned.

Yeah, that'll really help in earning respect.

i dont see why people get upset another teams band obviously is alot better than ours. Back in '03 when we went down to FL the directors told us "every time the FL band picks up their instruments, I want Rocky Top as loud as you can to keep their crowd out of the game." Every band does it on the road especially in hostile places. Some are good enough to pull it off when the home team band is as bad as FL's band is/was in '03. Sad to say that is the state of things for us now.

OK, you win. I am now officially and fully in favor of opponent players running through our band's routine and disrespecting our run through the "T". And all other such acts. So much so I swear I will cheer them each time I attend a game henceforth. I have seen the light. And no, I'm not joking.

Yeah, that'll show 'em.

Until we quit losing, the opponents have a right to do whatever. You have to earn the respect and when your coach says that MTSU has a good chance of beating us, that's not really helping

No one thinks you are joking; and no one is surprised.

HAHAHA! so, you are telling me that we are not only down in Football and Baseball, but now our band is in a rebuilding phase too?!? At least this one doesn't bother me.
What did bother me was the embarrassing Wizard of Oz stunt they pulled at halftime of the Georgia game and the playing of "Livin on a Prayer" during a football game. The song selection has pretty much always sucked, but they aren't even hitting the notes now? Gimme a break. Just play Rocky Top, the alma mater and Down the Field, that's all anybody wants to hear anyway. Sounds like you have some pull over there.

Yep. And at Georgia, we were told to turn and face the student section for Rocky Top. The band is there to eliminate the home crowd. It's the opposing band's job to stop it. Guess the Pride can't stop it anymore. Hard pill to swallow, especially from an alum.

Bottom line for me is if you run threw the band you might as well jump up and down on the T. That's not a wait for game time offence. That's a fight.

I thought turning the volume way up on our PA when USClite's band played was a nice touch... and booing when our band plays the visitor's fight song is classy. Our band can hold it's own anywhere.

Urine bombs are very effective. Aim for the women and children. If you hit 'em, then the men have to get involved to defend their honor. Then, no one is focused on the game.

Players families are the best. That way you distract the players too.

I can send you a "how to" guide that comes with the season tickets

Are people just now realizing that most college bands play quite a lot during the games? All of this seems like useless whining to me. I can't wait until we are winning again so we can discuss stuff other than "OMG that team ran on the field while the band is out there!"

Nice to see someone actually understood me. Folks like cbbowlingmd think such disrespect for the UT honors our team and university.
