Why I'm John Currie's biggest fan right now.

The answer is Fuente. And you throw cash until he says yes

I really like Fuente also, but he would be coming from Memphis and you know this fan base would never give him a fair shot before they sent the moving van to his house

It want change with a full Neyland. Seven wins and a bowl will keep it full. Your wasting your key strokes.

Fuente is perfect for VT because VT doesn't have potential playoff expectations.

You also don't go after Fuente when Chip Kelly or Bob Stoops on the free agent market. Hell you don't even go after Fuente unless someone like Les Miles says no.

lol I wouldn't touch any of your options for even base salary

I just feel Currie is a different AD who will not accept mediocrity and will do what he has to do....

I believe this is the beginning of the end for this staff. I wish it wasn't, because I do not want to start over...however, at this point, that is where we are...we will have to start over.

I do believe Currie will do the right thing and he will bring in a winner. Our financial status is better than it was the last several years and believe we have to ability to do something right here...

I think you are correct. Currie was here when he could at least get a glimpse of the glory days. He knows that his job is mostly evaluated by the football team. I don't think he will have any problem pulling the trigger when he deems it necessary. I just wonder where is his breaking point?

BTW, my pick would be Dan Mullen.

"but he (John Currie) was part of the team that was willing to cut the chord with the fan favorite or "likable guy" and go after a flashy name."

Yeah "cutting the chord" put UT football into the worst decade in it's history of football.

I would rather have a guy not willing to "cut the chord". But lead an athletic program in the right direction, keeping some continuity.

I do not like VT but I think they did it well.

Another year of Fulmer would not have hurt anyone but could have kept our program out of the darkness.

Or we could have another kneejerk reaction and hir the next kiffen or better Dooley....

As I'm sitting here thinking back over the entire game, I'm not mad. I'm not angry. I'm not sad. The only sympathy I have for this UT football program is for the players and student staffers. We have literally put our players in no win situations since the start of 2016.

I'm also relieved because this is the beginning of the end.

I blame Butch for this loss solely. I don't blame him for taking this job. This was a grade A opportunity for him and any one of us would have taken it. However, it is clear this job is "too big for his britches" once expectations are set on him. Not high expectations either.

In his first two years, it was recruit great and we will be willing to take 5 and 6 win seasons as long as the roster was getting rebuilt.

If I'm Currie, there is a phone call tonight saying Atlanta or you're fired. Lets be honest, that's the only thing that will save the guy. Butch has shown that he will not adapt and change for the better of the program. While Currie was one of the guys that ousted Coach Fulmer, I hope he leans on him greatly when it comes to evaluating Butch.

I was on the fence about Currie but he may be a blessing in disguise because he wasn't liked by the Fulmer faction (including me), but he was part of the team that was willing to cut the chord with the fan favorite or "likable guy" and go after a flashy name. He did it here and he did it at Kansas State with Frank Martin.

Currie will have a tremendous opportunity with the football program this year or next. Sadly, I'm afraid it will be next but hoping it will be this December. I know I'm the "Hire Chip Kelly" guy. At this point, I think Currie should have a 3 month interview process with anyone. It's clear that Butch is great at foundation laying and building depth. However, when expectations of relevance are put on him, it's clear he can't handle it. And I didn't come up with that today. It goes back to 2015.

I know I'm brash and rude but I hope to foster a healthy conversation about our football program's leader after today. Lord knows we need it.

Everyone have a safe weekend and let the players know we have their back.

I'll agree with most all of this except the part about the 3 month interview process. When Jones is let go the next man better have signed the paperwork or at least setting at the desk ready to sign. If the hiring process gets drug out it kills recruiting.

6 or 7 wins and a half empty Neyland. It's headed there i think. This team could likely finish 4th in the SEC east.

Carter do you think Currie would pull the trigger if the season goes south? I honestly am not sure this team even gets to a bowl with the asinine play calling and coaching decisions. The wheels could come off when we get into the SEC gauntlet.

In what world does Kiffin get fired on the tarmac and Butch keeps his after this performance.

Yeah, was the coaches who got burned to give up the game. LMFAO!

You are correct, it was the players that the coaches recruited, trained, chose to be on the field, and gave the play to.

It is a shame you didn't watch the game or you would realize that there was more than one play that lost the game.

Good grief. Give this YOUNG TEAM a chance before you completely throw them under the bus.

Nobody is throwing any of the players under the bus. We have an incredible group of young players. But butch isn't young. And this loss is totally on him. If we'd have run inside the 10 we'd have won today. The first was bad. But he last time time we did that was inexcusable. The only way Florida coulve gotten the ball back was for us to not run. And of course that's what happened

My opinion is that Butch will be (and should be) the coach through the end of the season as long as a .500 season and bowl game are achievable (which most likely takes us through the last game).

That doesn't mean that those benchmarks will spare him from the ax at season's end. And nor should they.

I am as ready for a new coach as anybody. Just my opinion.

I don't know. Haven't liked Butch's gimmicky offense since day one. Today it cost them the game.. That and the awful play calling. As bad as everyone was on the defense over the first two games the offense was equally as bad today. It's all on Jones at this point. It's his ship and the product should look better in year 5..
