Yes, we gave up a ton of rushing yards, but here's why this win is great!

- our defense did what it needed to do against a non traditional offense, even down our top 2 LB's

- Bituli is a beast and filled in nicely

- Dormady is a baller, showed why in the second half

- We were down 14 with almost 8 minutes to go but it didn't phase us

- the key was to survive the GT rushing offense, we did it, albeit barely

- the OL looked much better after getting some rhythm

- HUGE blocked field goal at the end of the 4th

- we found a way to win, couldn't have said that 3-4 years ago

- we forced two turnovers and had none

- we only had two penalties the entire night

it's not doom and gloom folks, fact of the matter is, GT can beat any team out there on any given day with the style of offense they run. But we made it happen!!

Go Vols!

About 80% of the people on here need to go to bed, get up in the morning and burn their damned VFL card. I closed my lap top in the 2nd quarter - much more enjoyable not reading all the negativity. 1-0 Baby !!!!

Bro Dormady balled in the first half...go look again at those perfectly thrown crisp passes. We may have something special with that cat.

4 years ago we seemed to always find ways to lose.

Ill take the win. The guys know they have work to do. Tech outplayed us but made some mistakes and we made them pay.

Eh he was throwing it all over the place In the 1s half. Definitely made some plays the rest of the way. Just needed to get the jitters out

I think most posters forget we didn't play a traditional offense and that we will not play another one all season.

This all day. The goal was to survive and win, limit injuries and move on. I think this defense shows up this year vs traditional offenses

it really is a great win...
I don't feel like the high yardage given up is indicative of the overall state of the defense...That is a very tough offense to defend....
but we gave up over 500 yards and still found a way to win it

we saw the potential of Calloway....Kelly didn't disappoint....we didn't have to put in Tuttle

Unfortunately, injuries to Jennings and Vickers are very concerning

we got to see Chandler for the first time...look forward to seeing him more

and did you notice the pulling guards...to me that is a big deal

Now that the gimmick game is behind us, I am looking forward to the season....have been dreading this one a lot

who won the pick em contest?

Yeah first game is a come from behind win! Kid is special! Happy these kids carrying that same don't quit until it's over attitude. I believe we can credit Dobbs for starting it when he came in for Worley against Bama a few years back. Had a few off games but these kids absolutely do not quit and have not since that game. Exception could be Bama last year. In love with this team already

Worst thing you do against Tech happened. Going to down 14 against them makes it hard to have time to climb out. Worse when your defense is getting beaten down. The drops for the offense were costly beyond all belief. The offense came around and special teams was clearly better for us.
I know Tech fans love them some triple option but it is the most boring and frustrating offense to watch. I couldn't watch it every game.

You should close your laptop every game because it's always like that

Happy we won but let's be real. He needed a forced fumble as they we're about to go in for the nail in the coffin score as well as a blocked fg to beat an unrnked team. Yet we have so much more talent than them it's not even funny. Butch will always be the ultra conservative coach that is content to be in a close game. The great coaches aren't that way.
We should've attacked way more when on offense. Our first 2 possessions we went run, run, short safe throw, punt. Then in our third possession (we had fallen behind $ we drove to the 37 and punted in forth and 3. And even though we pinned them deep, they still drive it the length to put us behind by 14.
It's just the type game butch is comfortable with. On defense, we should've blitzed the hell out of them. But we didn't. We allowed a huge cushion almost all night.
I'm happy we win but we aren't ever going to win huge unless there's a fundamental chance starting at the top. And we all know that's not happening

From my seat that is what I saw... not very crisp in the first half... but came around for sure in the second half.

Poorly played game as is typical of all Butch Jones teams. They manage to win in spite of themselves.

Hell I'm delirious, we finally get rid of this clown.
