Fellas the last 24 hours have been pretty hectic. At 1:50 AM last night our neighborhood was decimated by a tornado here in Cookeville. We were extremely fortunate to be one of the few that came away unscathed. Unfortunately others did not come away so lucky as some lost their home and all of their possessions and some + their families lost their lives. Within 20 minutes there were several in our neighborhood were on the scene of houses that had seen complete destruction to help our fellow neighbors. Come daylight not only were there local local FDs and authorities but FDs and authorities from counties all among the state. I got to know several of these fellas throughout the night and day and these guys would be there at the drop of a hat to help their fellow man.

Fellas this is the true Vol Nation! Tennessee is I like any other place I have lived in that we will go above and beyond for one another especially in a time of need. I Love My Tennessee home even in devastation.

Please keep all of my neighbors in your prayers fellas they will need it.

God bless and comfort ALL those affected by this tragedy, and thanks for posting up OP, while you have so many other things going on. Those of us from there, but not lucky enough to still live there, know what it means to be from Tennessee...thanks for the reminder!

Putnam County Mayor Porter estimated 2500 people showed up this morning to volunteer for the cleanup from many different counties. Remarkable turnout for the community. The missing persons list has been cut dramatically but many families still needing many prayers
Wish I didn't have to work. When people say from the great state of Tennessee this is what comes to my mind. While the beauty of our state is undeniable. It is the people who live and work here that make Tennessee a special place.

It’s on you to spread The Legacy of Tennessee. Tennesseans are pretty solid bunch. It makes it that much more satisfying to pull for a team the identifies with that culture.

Too bad more don’t understand.

The day I realized what it meant to be a Tennessean was truly enlightening. This state has a rich and storied military history and the people of this state have answered the call time and time again when a need for help arises. This is an amazing and special place to live. My prayers to all the good people in the Nashville area that have lost so much and so many.

Been out working in our neighborhood all day offering help to anyone who needed it. The amount of help in our little area got was astonishing. They actually had to start turning people away from coming in unless you were a resident. It made sense since there were so many people helping in small areas helping. We got to a house at one point asking if they needed any help and they said no the wave just came by a little bit ago it was like ants spread out everywhere. It was pretty incredible to see. I’m beat guys and I hope all the others who came in are too.

This effort is going to take a while. Please keep the families in this tragedy in your prayers and for the folks who are helping out as well.

Thanks for all the good comments fellas.

Tennessee Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk stepped up early yesterday morning and donated $1 Million to get the fundraising going in the right way to help the people in need.

People are donating the normal things like food, water and clothes but a group of school teachers have united and are buying kids coloring books, crayons, paper and pencils and other needed school supplies that most people forget about, great thing to do by underpaid teachers that show the Vol spirit and want to help the kids.

VFL...GBO!!!

Being a lifelong Tennessean, as many of you are as well, I am never disappointed in how we come together in times of disaster. I was blown away during the great flood in Nashville and yet again with the response to the tornados. It really brings home why we have been the Volunteer State throughout history.

Told my wife to just watch what happens...there will be no looting, no fights, no murders and no robberies. Just a bunch of people coming to help others clean up, recover and start putting their lives back together.

This is a very special state. Would not live elsewhere. And if you take it for granted, just move to another state for a couple of years and you will quickly realize Tennessee is tops.
