Why I hate Vandy more than anyone else

When I think of Vandy, all I think about is how they are nothing but a bunch of whiny, self-entitled C words. You always will lose to us. THAT is what you do.

I used to pull for them just out of pity. Then I realized how a good portion of their fans absolutely hate UT so I started to not like them. I still wouldn't say I hate them because, well, they are candy and you almost can't help but feel sorry for them.

Here is my one Vandy story and it is not much of one, but I still remember it almost like it was yesterday and wish I would have reacted differently.

I think it was the '97 game at Vandy. It was pouring down rain all day before and during the game. The stands were 90% orange. Vandy actually played us pretty well. Woody kept Peyton in check and we had a hard time scoring.

Anyway, about half way through the game I decided to get up to go get something to eat or go to the bathroom or something. Our row of seats were basically full on both sides of me and we were pretty much in the middle of the row. The row behind us was basically empty. There was a little old lady and what looked like her middle aged daughter or grand daughter with her that were sitting right behind us. There may have been 4 other people at most on the rest of their row. Rather than inconvenience 20 people by exiting on my row I was going to step up a row so I would have a clear shot without having to bother anyone. As I stepped up to that row the little old lady put her leg in front of me to stop me and said "we here at Vanderbilt exit on the row in which we are seated!"

The woman with her was wide eyed and in shock as if she couldn't believe her mother or grand mother was doing this.

I just smiled at her and said ok. If she hadn't been 80 something years old I probably would have reacted differently. Looking back, I should have just kept on and exited on her row. I at least wish I would have been obnoxious during the rest of the game, but that is really not my nature. I could have been waving a shaker in her face or something towards the end of the game when we were wrapping up the W.

...or maybe I should have just snapped her old leg like a twig

you should have told her....."float like tree on river of life" and then proceeded...if she pushed any further then it would have been ok to tell her to shove it

This is always a tough week for me. I'm orange through and through, but I can't help but feel a twinge of pain each time my alma mater is unfairly disparaged.

The football program is lousy, it's true.

Most of the rest of the athletic department is competitive.

It is a good academic institution.

Every student and alumnus is not a prick.

The female student body is not populated by goblins.

Is it too much to ask to get a little credit for that?

for the most part it is.....I would really have to contemplate if I'd wipe with Vandy.....i just don't think it would get the job done and would probably just make it worse

A few years ago, I got on the computer and worked up a "book" entitled Great Moments in Vanderbilt Football History - Complete and Illustrated I had it all dressed up and it looked something like a real book. Inside I had about 100 blank sheets of paper. My brother-in-law who hates Vandy as much as I, thought it was hilarious and took it to work and had the Vandy fans look at it. They thought that it was something special until they opened it up.....We had a lot of great laughs with it.....

that's a classic and the basic premise can be used for just about any school......I'll put that one in the "to do" files.....got KY fans trashing up the genes

I live in Nashville so I have to listen to them on the tv and radio even though they are outnumbered in their own city by Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky and Ole Miss fans.

Cornelius Vanderbilt never set foot in the state of Tennessee.

The founder of the Vanderbilt went to a Yankee to beg for money. Vanderbilt's endowment is a pity gift or blood money.

Tulane and Sewanee had the decency of leaving the conference that they knew they no longer had any business being a member of.

They want you to believe that you have to be smart to go to Vanderbilt when in truth you just have to be rich.

1. Just because you say no offense doesn't mean you get to say whatever you want
2.doing something just to irritate someone or make them mad makes you a douche
3.I'm sorry I enjoy watching Tennessee play and not know the outcome. You realize there are only 13 football games a year?
4.I hope your post total stops at 600
5.Welcome to my ignore list
6.No offense, but you're an idiot
:)

That guy was such a di** to you, I ignored him too.:hi:

Come on...you can be more creative than that. :)

Seriously though, if we lose to Vandy I might get arrested.

Have you ever called someone that? I never have....I went anatomically correct to try and keep the post as appropriate as possible.....he might think your British or something

I have, but I work with a mix of ex-military and computer geeks, the language is colorful.

I was just giving you a hard time. :)

yoiu must not be near Nashville.....it's different here than in most any part of the state because it's hard for all 5 of their fans to get around the midstate

Plus 1

I cannot stand Vandy football/basketball. Since a couple kids my son played with are on the baseball team, I stomach them.....

Last year I was on my honeymoon. My wife and I were on our way back from the Bahamas. It was September 20th, the day that Tennessee played Florida.

I knew that we didn't have a huge chance, but I love to watch the games and not know. So knowing that we wouldn't make it back in time for the game I TiVo'd it.

While walking through the airport I was looking down covering my eyes and my wife lead me through the airport. After getting on the plane a woman asked, "What on earth were you two doing?"

I said, "Well, I am a Tennessee fan and I didn't want to see the score of the game."

Her response has made me hate Vanderbilt fans every since. "oh they got killed. The score was 30-6. I am a Vanderbilt fan and I like to see a Tennessee fan squirm whenever I can."

It might be petty but
Vanderbilt...I never want you to win again

You should politely remind her that it is your pleasure to see a Vanderbilt "fan" squirm in the same fashion for the past 30 years.

I want TN to beat Vandy more than ANY SEC team, guess it's due to them being an in state school. I think TN stomps them this evening.

Hey Big Orange! Why hate? This is just a good instate rivalry. I'm a Tennessee fan as well as a Vandy fan. I graduated from both schools. Today I am a Vandy fan and always have been on this day.

Based on many of these posts it appears a few of you are bent out of shape. It is only a ball game. LOL! I know you find that hard to believe.

I like these type of fans as us Vanderbilt graduates always need to hire a good ole bunch of workers from time to time. You actually need us to increase the average GPA up to acceptable standards in sports!

See you in a few hours as I'm heading east to Knoxville.

In life everyone should ask a simple question before making any decision. What would Cafego do? He would hate Vandy. Case closed.

Grew up in and around Nashville. Don't hate Vandy per se however, we cannot lose to them. It's like getting beat up by your little brother. Not supposed to happen.
