Why I hate Vandy more than anyone else

My favorite was the 1994 game. We came in 6-4 and Vandy was 5-5. Vandy was talking bowl game and UT was having a "down year". And UT proceeds to win 64-0. The best part was leaving the game and the time it took for us to leave the stadium and get to our car, UT scored 2 more times.

My hate for Vandy is more based in basketball than football. The problem with Vandy fans is when they even sniff success, like last year or 2005, they come out of the woodworks and trash talk like they've actually accomplished something. And Memorial Gym is one of the worst places for visiting teams that I've ever seen. It's lost it's magic some but it used to be absolutely horrible for home cooking. I've seen some of the worst officiated games ever in that place, and the fans are some of the dumbest I've ever seen.

So I will always hate Vandy.

Living in Nashville will make anyone hate Vandy. Their fans are some of the most annoying I've ever been around. If they lose, they were supposed to because of their academic standards and if it was close they act like they won. If they win, they'll talk about it for a decade. I hate'em as much or more than anyone, FU, Bama, and UGA included.

It's hard to hate Vandy- feel sorry for them, yes, but hate them? Nah....

I don't hate Vandy ether. I kinda like the underdogs.....but you got to admit, 3 years ago they had us squirming..then beat us...you can't take them lightly...KY on the other hand...well that is a give'me.
if I had a choice I'd rather lose to Vandy.

kick ass medical hospital...last time I was there....only respect they gave us.
fine ass hospital.

Last year I was on my honeymoon. My wife and I were on our way back from the Bahamas. It was September 20th, the day that Tennessee played Florida.

I knew that we didn't have a huge chance, but I love to watch the games and not know. So knowing that we wouldn't make it back in time for the game I TiVo'd it.

While walking through the airport I was looking down covering my eyes and my wife lead me through the airport. After getting on the plane a woman asked, "What on earth were you two doing?"

I said, "Well, I am a Tennessee fan and I didn't want to see the score of the game."

Her response has made me hate Vanderbilt fans every since. "oh they got killed. The score was 30-6. I am a Vanderbilt fan and I like to see a Tennessee fan squirm whenever I can."

It might be petty but
Vanderbilt...I never want you to win again
Wow! That would piss me off so bad! Who likes Vanderbilt anyways? I didn't even know they had fans.

I do not hate Vandy more than any other team, but I have family that are big Vandy fans. We cannot lose to them again for another 25 years.

These days they win once every 20 or 25 years.
That is 4 or 5 times a century.

What is the point of being a Candy fan?
Even if I went to school there I think I would still be a VOLS fan.

+1

That is because they win once every decade or two. This is the game where I sing Rocky Top the loudest. It makes them so uncomfortable and they will eventually leave.

i hate them more than any other school, too.

their students are complete asshat d-bags. i think the past 3 times i've been out on west end i've almost gotten into a fight with one. one guy ran into my arm when i was drinking a beer at dan mcguinness and proceeded to call me a d-bag because HE ran into ME. you'd think they would be more intelligent - trying to start sh*t with a guy 40 lbs heavier, flanked by guys who are 6'4 and 6'7, too.

I do not remember that. Did he do it on purpose? I was most definitely at that game, but being in school, I was most likely drunk.

Sort of... The play was whistled dead and Quarles kept coming. Shuler stuck his foot up and smacked him in the cods....

I used to pull for them just out of pity. Then I realized how a good portion of their fans absolutely hate UT so I started to not like them. I still wouldn't say I hate them because, well, they are candy and you almost can't help but feel sorry for them.

Here is my one Vandy story and it is not much of one, but I still remember it almost like it was yesterday and wish I would have reacted differently.

I think it was the '97 game at Vandy. It was pouring down rain all day before and during the game. The stands were 90% orange. Vandy actually played us pretty well. Woody kept Peyton in check and we had a hard time scoring.

Anyway, about half way through the game I decided to get up to go get something to eat or go to the bathroom or something. Our row of seats were basically full on both sides of me and we were pretty much in the middle of the row. The row behind us was basically empty. There was a little old lady and what looked like her middle aged daughter or grand daughter with her that were sitting right behind us. There may have been 4 other people at most on the rest of their row. Rather than inconvenience 20 people by exiting on my row I was going to step up a row so I would have a clear shot without having to bother anyone. As I stepped up to that row the little old lady put her leg in front of me to stop me and said "we here at Vanderbilt exit on the row in which we are seated!"

The woman with her was wide eyed and in shock as if she couldn't believe her mother or grand mother was doing this.

I just smiled at her and said ok. If she hadn't been 80 something years old I probably would have reacted differently. Looking back, I should have just kept on and exited on her row. I at least wish I would have been obnoxious during the rest of the game, but that is really not my nature. I could have been waving a shaker in her face or something towards the end of the game when we were wrapping up the W.

...or maybe I should have just snapped her old leg like a twig

Should have told the old bat: "Yeah... and you usually do it by the middle of the second quarter too..."

:eek:lol: You are a good man, Cotton.

This is always a tough week for me. I'm orange through and through, but I can't help but feel a twinge of pain each time my alma mater is unfairly disparaged.

The football program is lousy, it's true.

Most of the rest of the athletic department is competitive.

It is a good academic institution.

Every student and alumnus is not a prick.

The female student body is not populated by goblins.

Is it too much to ask to get a little credit for that?

My response last year to anyone who laughed about Tennessee's season was that even in one of Tennessee worst seasons, Vandy, with it's best season in years still couldn't beat the Vols! :)

If George Cafego wasn't my idol...I'd be able to sympathize. Unfortunately, I can't.
