Why I Hate UF

Florida fans are fine. Their obnoxiousness is magnified because they are our principal rival. Like most schools in the SEC, get a bunch of alcohol into a large number of rednecks and frat boys and you're begging for trouble.

Gainesville does suck, though. Just in general.

i hate to hear all these bad stories. makes me not want to take my 14yr old twin sisters to a game till their older. ive always just nodded to the losing team and went on. drunks are bad wherever. as for those whose vehicles were hit with rocks in parking lot i hate that happened but my hats off to whoever found a rock in the state of florida. lol. as much fun and exciting as college football is, theres always an a##hole in every crowd but i do agree the ones in puke blue and clemson orange are the worst.

Oh yeah, there's always obnoxious fans... but Florida fans have the worst rep, and they have no one to blame but themselves. I grew up in Jacksonville, and hated Florida because of it. :p

At the USC game last year, there were some drunk UT fans giving this one SC fan all kinds of grief, but it didn't get too out of hand.

When me and some friends went down in 05 we were treated bad by a waitress, cursed at in the mall, and cursed as soon as we got off the bus at the stadium.
It was overall a bad experience.

I have been to the swamp a few times, and it was pretty bad at times. To be honest though and i'm sure I will catch it for this, but we don't have a lot of room to talk. I'm a student at UT and I have seen other school fans treated very badly.

to be honest, as far as the "worst fans" thing goes. i think georgia wins hands down, followed closely by florida and lsu. their fans are the sorest losers i've ever seen in my life.

Been to every SEC site. UF is by far the worse. I will also say that I have been there, Bama and UGA the same amount of times, so maybe number of games attended has something to do with this. But UGA and Bama are never that bad. Actually, they are my two favorites. The fans in Gainsville do seem to be very bad. They get right in your face trying to instigate fights. I have witnessed bottle throwing 3 times. I no longer try to go out Friday before the game; which I feel 100% comfortable doing at UGA, Bama or anywhere else. Maybe it is not as bad for other schools (USCe, Vandy, UK) but they really don't like the Vols down there.

Florida is like new money, no class. They have not been a winning program long enough to know how to handle it.

I think the biggest problem with UF fans is that recently we haven't beaten them in football. They are obnoxious because they are cocky and believe they'll never lose to us again. I've been to the swamp twice now, the first time was horrible, but the second time was like any other game. I think a lot of it depends on how close you are to the students, the drunk rednecks are just drunk rednecks, but the students can get violent.

I despise the Gators specifically because of the thorn they've been in UT's side... but more generally because I don't like it when people have fortune drop in their lap then act like they're superior because of it. I do like underdogs fighting against the odds. It is easy for me to love the Vols more because they have to work so much harder to get and develop talent... and to hate UF because they don't.

WTF? Fortune dropping in our lap?

Man, I was an undergrad at the end of the Charlie Pell/Galen Hall era. UF has worked very hard to get to where it is right now and suffered through a lot of losing and mediocre seasons to get here.

The current students may be obnoxious because they have a sense of entitlement to haivng a good team to root for, but those of us who trace our Gator fan status back to the pre-Spurrier era know better.

But plenty of Gator fans do show good sportsmanship. IMO, the experience you get at a team's stadium is a function of such things as the mix of students to alumni, whether the game is early in the day or later, and the importance of the game.

All of those factors feed into the question of just how drunk the fans you run into are going to be.

Considering that very few if any UT fans ever enjoy their visits to the Swamp, regardless of the score, I find your theory questionable at best. I met one friendly Gator student at a game, but he was staying with his UT friends. Other than that, I've been cussed out by both students and older UF fans at Neyland Stadium, as a child and as a teenager, and even punched (which was 100% unprovoked) in 06. I've never experienced anything close to that from any other school be it Bama, Georgia, or LSU, and they have plenty of nasty fans.

yes, there are very few of those, which I'm sure you realize, which is why Gator fans are so horrible, which is why we as a fan base hate UF. Make sense now?

In the sense that Florida has enjoyed a period of relative prosperity from about 1994-2008, you are correct that a larger proportion of Florida fans are spoiled than UT or UGA fans. But this goes back to my observation that a lot of what will factor into how you are treated at a Florida game depends on whether you are encountering students or alumni. My advice, if you go, is to avoid the bars on University and instead tailgate. That's where the alumni are and that's where the good fans will be located.

I don't need a reason to UF, I just do.... Although lawgator is ok..... but only because of the avatar!:p

I sat behind a very classy older Florida couple in Neyland Stadium two years ago, but all the other ones around were jerks (I had standing room only in the upper deck away section. Not all the students get good seats... or seats at all. That'll really tick me off if I paid for them.)

:lolabove: Haha!!...Your actually not too far off on that statement :wink2: I have been to hell uh I mean Gainesville 3 times for ballgames and two of them were victories...The one loss was the nightmare 62-37 loss...I have had drinks thrown at Me, My van was keyed EVERYTIME I went there..I nearly got into a fight at halftime of the 2001 game because some girl didn't like my jersey and threatened to spit on it...I told her if she did that I would not hit her, I would hit the geek that was standing there with her...The guy didn't weigh 125 pound soaking wet so it would've been a nasty slap on the concrete..She thought better and moved on..The sad part is the gator fans were urging her to do it...I hate that town and that place and the people in it and think that town should all be nuked and start over with a new and improved civilization without JORTS

if more than an insignificant sliver of your fanbase shared this attitude, this thread wouldn't exist; but unfortunately the vast majority don't seem to
