Today was a bad loss...we got beat by a team worse than us...even with the injuries, we should have won. Saying that though, when Butch took over, he didn't have a SEC roster and now we have one. People want to get back to winning championships, but they are stuck in the 90s..truth is we are a 9-3 or 8-4 program, who is tied for 5th in SEC titles...we need to make changes, we don't need a new head coach next year.

The sad truth is since the General retired, we are a middle of the road SEC team that jumps up every few years and has a great year.

60s total record 67-32 or average of 7 and 3
70s total record 75-39 or average of 8 and 4
80s total record 76-37 or average of 8 and 4
90s total record 98-22 or average of 10 and 2
00s total record 83-44 or average of 8 and 4
10s total record 37-38 or average of 6 and 6

Since 1960 SEC Championships
Alabama 22
Florida 9
LSU 8
Georgia 8
Auburn 6
Tennessee 6
Ole Miss 3
Kentucky 1

The college Football data warehouse is a good site for looking at historical data...they have info on all teams and also calculate the best 5 year, 10 year and 25 year runs by each school...it's a weighted calculation based on winning percentage, schedule strength, national championships and major bowls...all the results are put into a single table and top 250 "Best 10 Years" listed. No surprise that Bama has 27 different ten year runs in the top 250...it is kind of surprising that we don't have a single team to make the cut...it was a bit shocking to my orange tinted reality...

Alabama 27
Notre Dame (IN) 26
Southern California 26
Oklahoma 22
Nebraska 20
Ohio St. 17
Texas 16
Florida St. 12
Michigan 12
Florida 11
Miami (FL) 11
Louisiana St. 8
Penn St. 6
Minnesota 5
Mississippi 3
Michigan St. 2

It's this kind of mentality that will make us mediocre. You should never be allowed to post this poison on this board ever again. Mediocrity will never be accepted at Tennessee.

I don't think that "Don't **** the bed against a terrible opponent coming off a bye week" is an unreasonably high standard.

Because for a time we were the winningest program over the last 75 years (not that long ago).

Yeah when the General was here we were dominant...not since...even in our best decade, UF had more titles....I want to win as bad as anybody but facts are facts...we haven't been great in a while

So did FSU, what's your point? Tennessee was pretty dominant in the 90s. They were ranked in the Top 10 quite often (5 of 7 years under CFP and never out of the Top 20) and in the running for big time bowl games. We lost 4 games ONCE under Fulmer in the 90s.

Yep the 90s were our best decade since the general and we still didn't even dominate our own conference...UF had 5 titles, we had 3, and Bama had 2...half of our SEC championships in the last 40 years came from that decade.

We may as well have Fulmer as our head coach if we are willing to accept mediocrity today.

VFL Fulmer was totally complacent and irrelevant (without Cutcliffe) as a head coach in his last 6 or 7 years. If that level of performance is acceptable; why would we ever let him go?

I honestly believe Fulmer is a VFL. He was not going to bring UT more than mediocrity, without CDC. We don't let him go unless we expect more. CBJ is not delivering.

UT fired a VFL. We have seen 3 head coaches hired since then. That is why we hold CBJ to a higher standard. Beat Texas A&M and the Gamecocks and we are not having this conversation. Injuries or not, CBJ is not getting the job done. He is paid too much to fail.

I think Fulmer was a good OL coach and a recruiter..who had a great staff....I also think he was burnt out toward the end

Ask Michigan is mediocrity is okay? Ask ol Jim if he has enough bricks yet. He has 2 recruiting classes and is already in control of the conference. Get serious.

This.

All day long.

Bama? Eh. You could get some bites with excuses. SC coming off a bye? You are working OT to excuse that. There will be a plenty trying to hold out hope that he is legit. It has now proved to be a waste of time.

Its that kind of crap bag attitude that will keep fans okay with s*** results. Go cheer for UGA if you want average. Participation medal seeking bags like you make me sick.

Because we pay him a pretty decent salary that says "you have a standard you should meet." A major problem is that plenty of fans try their best to justify mediocrity. That does nothing but insure you are mediocre. Expecting excellence produces excellence. Refusing to settle for average produces greatness.

We should hold the coach to a higher standard because as fans we are proud of the UT brand, and we expect to see the best effort, preparation, and product on the field. WE ARE TENNESSEE, and everyone else doesn't matter.

These things don't happen in a vacuum.

It's an SEC East that is so bad that words can't describe. There are 3 new head coaches in the division. There are 4 or 5 new starting QB's. in a division where no one was any good to begin with, everyone is trying to rebuild their program.....except Tennessee.

Year 4. Juniors and seniors everywhere. 3 year starters at a bunch of spots.

It doesn't get to line up any easier than this. And with all of that, they have gone out and been in double digit deficits to almost every team on the schedule. It just finally caught up with them against an inferior opponent.

I thought, as many here probably did, that after going through the gauntlet and having a bye week, it would be different. They would refocus and establish a higher level of play going into the stretch run that featured a slew of mediocre opponents. Didnt happen.

So, the obvious concern isn't this season in and of itself. It's the rationale that if you can't win this division this season under these circumstances....and having beaten Florida and Georgia.....is this staff really the answer.

And that's a hard rationale to argue with
