Why hasn't Scott been fired?

Butch knows he is gone. Why fire Scott now!!! Firing someone has too be tough and doing it when you know you are going to be sent packing doesn't make sense.

Its apparent that Jones is going to be around for a little while longer but why hasnt he fired Scott? We havent scored an offensive touchdown in 3 1/2 games. That would get you fired at literally any other school. I would think that Butch would have kicked his ass to the curb to at least take a little bit of heat off of him but hasnt and it seems like it has never even been a possibility. Does he just not give a crap? Is this him showing that he has given up knowing this is his last year?

Butch said he wasn't changing anything about the offensive playcalling. I'm pretty sure this is one of the problems… Unwilling to change or adjust!

Because firing Scott would force Butch to admit he made a mistake. Have you ever seen him do that?

I don't think it is the play calling, I think we have no receivers who can get open and for sure no quarterback. Gaurentano is awful and Dormady is much better but neither are SEC quarterbacks. With 5 top 15 recruiting classes you would think we would be deep we are not. Without Dobbs last year we would have gone 6-6 at best. Most everybody thinks Jones can recruit but look at us now..........

Scott and Jones are both severely incompetent.

42 consecutive offensive series without a touchdown.

Who is there to replace him with? There aren't any obvious improvements on the staff to replace him with. As bad as he is, we may as well roll with him since there don't appear to be any better options on the staff.

Butch has had 3 OCs....Bajakian Debord and now Scott. His original Bearcats guy , his old coach and an upstart . This is Butchs offense and these guys are his flunkies. Butch invented this offense as a hybrid between the Kelly 4 vertical attack and the Rich Rod spread. Somewhere along the way he got a west coast passing tree on his mind. Last season you had an incredible athlete that bailed us out ...now there is no one to engineer this QB dependent train wreck of an offense. Of all his OCs , there are been complaints and rumors that each wanted to change the system . Debord had the most influence , but if he ran his choice he would have ran a power I. Not to mention the RB that left mid-season and complained loudly.

Scott is the tip of the iceburg . Any OC would fail married to this sytem. They would do better to line up and run the single wing

The Single Wing served the University of Tennessee well for years. Would not work now because requires some blocking from the O-line and the new age video game playing fans would be screaming that we don’t throw the ball every other play. The fact that we could hold the ball for more than 1 min an 30 secs on offense and keep the Defense rested between possessions would not be enough. Style points matter to the youngsters got to have the Prima Donna wide receivers these days.

I agree ...and passing every other play is balance which is perfect . They cant do that however . The scheme itself uses a very passive zone technique , more often than not there are not enough blockers to effectuate the power run they are hoping for and the play takes to long to develop. We know they are screwed with this system. He needs to do something else

Firing Scott going to win you a game? H*** no. My God everyone thinks going off and firing someone accomplishes something. What does it accomplish? Who's going to call the plays. Oh I know lets install a brand new offense this week before Kentucky. Butch can call the offense. The same butch that everyone questions his competency on game management. Some of you don't have a f*****g clue. Everyone has a simple fix. Well you all should be the coach. Dumber than s**t.

he tried to resign.. he ended up finishing the year

I thought he did resign following South Carolina loss, but stayed on staff thru the season with limited play-calling duties.

In any case, only example I could think of.

Scott is the main guy familiar with South Florida high school coaches. Fire him and you lose that recruiting advantage.

I could see them demoting him, but it might be too late.
